《Cloud Dungeon》Chapter 14

After the initial monster wave, the fear that the spirits caused in the area’s monsters was rather large, causing animals and monsters to flee.
The spirits remained below for two days. During this time Jack, the gnomes and the earth wisps worked in extensive and detailed work with the wall around the town making it really dense heavy stone. Once the wall was finished, they made the gatehouse while the elf army who had brought elven architects grew the two large heavy doors and set up the system to open and close the doors with large chains and gears. The gnomes were a big help in moving the things into place since these things are normally built alongside the walls.
Then watchtowers were also raised along the wall. The wall was thick enough that a walkway at the top would fit several men without problem.
Inside the village, gnomes helped the elves construct really comfortable stone cottages with wooden interiors which made it warmer and the fairies helped to cover the roofs. Obviously because of their simple nature and love of beauty, the flower spirits and fairies took no time at all to plant flowers in front and around the houses making them quite scenic.
After three days, there was no longer a need for the powerhouse monsters to stay, so Jack, the empress and half the gnomes and fairies returned to the dungeon while the rest were told to remain until the dungeon town was set up. Dia then left and the gnomes began to work with the elven army while Dia returned to the capital.
On the second floor Jack arrived and stretched, but as he was about to lay down Dia called.
“Jack~! Come on don’t lay there!” She cried.
“Why dear missy?” He said confused.
She grinned wide. “You're going to live on the third floor now!”
The boss of the second floor, Jack the Gentle Giant, has been moved into the third floor as a regular monster. Power restriction has dropped to 75%. If he is placed as dungeon boss the restriction will drop to 70%.
Please create a new dungeon boss for the second floor or else the dungeon will destabilize and parts may begin to break off the third floor and monsters will go wild to decide the boss themselves.
Jack looked at the message and frowned but smiled quickly.
“Thaks dear missy, ye shoud mak a new boss quik.” Jack said
Dia nodded then crossed her arms and sat down thinking. What she was thinking was of all the fairy tales she knew and trying to choose which ‘bad guy’ she should put as the boss and then she should also make a ‘hero’ to make sure he doesn’t go wild.
As Dia was thinking she suddenly heard the howl of the sky wolf and saw one on the nearest island fighting. It howled and it blew a large gust of wind riling up the cloud sea.
“That is just like the three little pigs… but I have no piggies to stop him.” She thought before she remembered that bigger meaner wolf monster that was in the third floor causing trouble and her face turned to a smile as she remembered the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and how a big strong lumberjack saved Grandma and Riding Hood from the belly of the mean wolf.
She quickly jumped up and started to look. She wanted to make a big strong lumberjack and she thought a while before she had Jack call three greater gnomes.
They soon appeared and she asked “I want to make a new dungeon boss, but he is an ‘ugly monster’ and I want someone to control him, can I make you a big ‘hero’ that can do that?” She asked.

“It be meh honor!” The first gnome said.
“Oi! It be meh honor!” The second said.
“Oi It be meh not yer!” The third said and the three glared at each other.
Jack chuckled seeing the three gnomes almost at each other's throats, but it’s obvious why. Only one of them survives while the others technically dies to merge, though in truth the souls of the three also merge becoming one, but the personality remains the one from the base.
After several minutes and a short fight, one gnome remained as he proudly beat the other two into submission.
Dia giggled but touched his little hat and the beanstalk and felt the mana flowing through her dungeon all the way to the mana pool.
When she felt it, her vision went dark and she saw the other two gnomes turning into brown light and entering the third. Then the third began to glow and grow to her size and becoming a short stubby big bearded old man with a circular hat with two horns and on his side was a stone axe.
She threw this out and thought about the story of the ‘Red Riding Hood’ and how the lumberjack was bigger than everyone, but he wasn’t a giant. More like a runt giant.
Soon the image of that short stubby gnome changed and his figure grew to 2 and a half meters tall. He had a big belly, but his muscles were really bulky while his mustache was braided and so was the beard starting at the end of his chin. His hair was orange, his skin was tanned and he had large pelts while in his right hand was a lumberjack's axe that was unusually sharp.
Nodding at this she opened her eyes and like all times she makes new monsters she watched as the process does itself once more and the big man appears.
You have created a new race. Please name.
Warning this race possesses many similar characteristics to the gentle giant and once named it will act as a pre-evolution of lesser creatures into a gentle giant
Dia didn’t understand half of it and took a quick look around.
“Misty~~! Where are you Misty~!” She called.
Even when called, the cat fairy didn’t come until after a long moment when a small ball of light appeared from the beanstalk and yawned.
“Why did you wake me up from my cat nap?” She said rubbing her eyes.
“Where have you been?” Dia asked pouting.
“Sleeping…” Misty said bluntly. “...So what is it?”
Dia pointed at the message and after a moment Misty yawned and told her what it mean.
“Really! Then I will call him the Gentle Runt!” Dia said.
“Oi Wait!” The ‘runt’ said.
You have created a new race called the gentle runt. Because of their close similarities, the gentle runt is now a common pre-evolution of the gentle giant.
Gentle Runt
This unique race was created by a young dungeon mimicking a fairytale story she heard. The race are skilled workers in lumbering and mining and similar to their giant cousins, they are skilled in controlling earth magic. They are most skilled when using a lumberjack axe and can use it to cut trees or as a weapon and they wholly hate wolves. They are caring, but much more violent than gentle giants who are much milder in temper.
This creature possess one-third of a gentle giant’s full strength.
On floor 2 its strength is 40%, it can use full strength from the third floor and beyond.

Jack instantly burst into laughter upon hearing the race name while the man seemed depressed.
“Missy, ha do ah look lik ah runt?” He quickly asked.
Dia quickly pointed at the laughing giant.
As the man looked at Jack, he realized he indeed was a runt of a giant, but he wholly hated to have a race name called that.
“Now! For the Big Bad Wolf!” Dia said cheerfully and mentally called a dire sky wolf from the floor above. There were already a few dens of them on some cloud islands and soon one of the older ones descended and stopped in front of her wagging its tail, yet to her it seemed really ugly.
She carefully called it over and touched it. The runt didn’t like it and was holding the axe in a threatening manner as if he was about to attack.
In Dia’s eyes she thought of the cartoons and drawings she saw. It was always walking on its back legs but it was always hairy. With these thoughts the wolf grew even uglier and stood on its hind legs before its body changed into half man without losing a bit of its wolf traits.
She was really scared and thought of how to make it less scary. Slowly she made it more human. The wild fur began decreasing, the snout shrank by a bit but remained wolf like and its posture slowly fixed up. Soon it was human sized wolfman, but still strong looking. To break it down more, she made it naturally appear with a pair of farmer overalls which kind of made her giggle.
As she opened her eyes she began to float and flew into Jack’s hat as the wolf began to change and grow into a wolfman with the clothes.
You have created a sub-race for the kobold. Please name your new race.
“B-big Bad Wolf.” Dia said
The sub-race has been named ‘Big Bad Wolf’
Due to the strength registered, this race has been identified as a boss class race and only one can be found per pack of wolves or as a floor boss. Due to it being a wolf boss it will possess lesser wolf minions.
Big Bad Wolf
A monster that a young dungeon based off a fairytale villain. This creature is wicked and hunts naive people in the forest and can trick them to set up a trap further along. His arch nemesis is the gentle runt race and he outright avoids gentle giants due to their power being something it can’t even reach.
As it finished changing, its strength suddenly surged and it howled making the entire floor know of its presence.
“Hehehe! Grrrr~!” He laughed before a low growl appeared and he looked at the lumberjack runt.
“I'm watching you wolf!” The gentle runt said with a glare.
“Grrrr, I'll be waiting runt!” The wolfman said and the two glared at each other before the lumberjack nodded to Dia and walked away while whistling for the gnomes. When the gnomes arrived, he got their help to build his house within view of the boss zone and set up gnomes underground to watch the wolf.
“Let's go Jack.” Dia muttered while hiding in his hat and he nodded.
“Grrr~! Good boy master, Grrhehe.” The wolf said.
Jack glared at him and he shrank back with his tail between his legs.
Jack who was about to scale the beanstalk turned back and kneeled looking down at the wolf.
“Ah giv ya un warnen an it tis un. Don urt dear missy els ah won be nice.” He said in a very serious tone.
The wolf crouched down with its tail between its legs and nodded understanding his place on the power ladder of the dungeon.
Jack nodded and stood up before he placed his mallet in a belt space for it. After looking around and taking the last of his things on the second floor, he scaled the beanstalk to go to the next floor permanently.
Only after Jack fully rose up the beanstalk did the big bad wolf relax. Looking around he sneered as the smell of the giant was everywhere.
“Grrr!” *Howl*
He got on all fours and howled upwards like he had always done as a wolf.
The sound did not reach the third floor because each floor, as close as it may seem, is their own separate dimension or at least their own layer within the dungeon dimension.
The second floor trembled causing the spirits to cover their ears and look at the source with rage, but the sky wolves on the floor pricked their ears up and suddenly rushed to the main island.
Obviously the tree warriors were there to stop them, but suddenly something came from behind and smashed a very clear path through the garden and tree warriors allowing some 10 or 15 sky wolves to reach the wolf. However, soon giant roots began to appear from the ground which spiked all the invading wolves and hit back those still coming causing the pack of sky wolves to split in two.
Then the gentle runt came out and looked furious at the destruction.
“You bastard! You should instinctively know that you CAN’T touch the flower garden!” The runt said.
“Grr~ oh do I care? I am making my pack of beasts so Grrr fuck off!” The big bad wolf growled and grinned at the runt who was scowling.
Just as he was about to turn, a thick vine burst out of the ground and pinned the wolf to the beanstalk.
As he tried to break it another few vines caught his arms and legs. When he howled in rage and looked around for the culprit, he found a multitude of flower spirits glaring at him and one empress appeared before looking at the destruction.
“This is your only warning, you ruin our majestic work on Dia’s garden once more and you will forever feel the agony of our rage.” She said and flicked her little hand causing a vine to appear and slap the wolf’s face on both sides before dropping him.
She ordered the flower spirits to repair the damage and heal the treants.
The big bad wolf slowly stood up and glared at all the fairies, but he knew he wasn’t their match. Even the runt was stronger than him, he was made from a strong monster into one of the limit of this floor’s power chain, but the creatures in front of him are all creatures of the next floor and beyond. He also felt by instinct that the dungeon conscious didn’t like him and made him the boss because of who he was, the name of his race even spoke of it as a race of villains.
He growled unsatisfied and grunted to his surviving new minions to dig a den.
They moved carefully and in a clear spot they started to dig only for the earth to rise and form a stone cave which gnomes walked out but sneered at him.
“Dis her is yer den. Weh mad it big nough fur yer pack.” The gnome said and melted into the ground once more.
They entered and found the large cavern lit by strange mushrooms and all around were leafy beds for several dozens of pairs.
The wolf went to the back where the biggest bed was and crashed on it. He then growled to the others to enter and breed.
After a while he stood and slowly walked out before slowly walking out only to be called by the runt.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“To hunt Grr!” The big bad wolf said and took a sniff of the air and stopped walking towards the cloud sea and turned his head as he smelled a rabbit.
He suddenly ran and in three bounds he jumped into the trees. He came out satisfied with a bloody corpse of a big rabbit in his claws.
“Grr~! Are you going to keep my pack from eating as well Grr!” The big bad wolf said.
The runt narrowed his eyes and turned and took a step but stopped. “Don’t try anything funny like sending a wolf to the third floor to bring down direwolves, I would simply cut them down and use their pelts to dress myself in a lavish suit of leather armor. You can hunt only animals and not over hunt either.” The runt said and walked off and soon entered the forest towards a stream of smoke which came from a stone cottage at the entrance of the main island.
The wolf returned to his den and devoured his catch before growling in rage at not being the true boss of this floor.
On the third floor Jack arrived and called the gnomes and mushroom spirits and had them lift their caverns up to the surface. Like before he quickly modified the main island and made it extensively wider while putting the earth under the island to good use. Then he sat down near the mana pool and just watched as Dia, Daffodil and Lyra practiced to play the harp. Be it small or large, they were learning the scale and the two were soaking up the knowledge surprising the elf by the speed they were improving.
At night Lyra played her lullaby and unlike the previous times where she did it by instinct, this time she used her growing knowledge and her tuned harp. The sound transmitted itself through the whole floor causing a gentle wind to push the gentle song to all the floor. It was a night that nothing fought and just sat there listening to the lullaby under the starry sky.
The following morning as the dungeon arrived at the elf capital, they arrived at a rather amazing time.
“Kya~! It’s raining!” Dia said as she woke up drenched and rushed into Daffodil’s little house.
Under the cover of rain, the dungeon arrived, but no one noticed until quite a while when the people down below saw the leaves unfurl, though no one was in the least interested to scale the beanstalk.
In the third floor Dia watched as the spirits and fairies hid, all except the water fairies and pixies that were dancing in the rain.
“The other fairies look so sad.” Dia muttered.
“Well with their size it will be hard to escape the rain.” Daffodil said.
Dia looked a bit sad and she was reviewing her mind of all the fairytales she knew but didn’t know how to fix it. Only after a long hour did she finish all her stories and she happened to remember a cartoon her brother watched once where there was a cute beyond words fairy that used a giant leaf and had a shaman who wanted to make a huge field of that leaf to save the family of his little spirit.
Her face brightened up and she quickly stood up before bolting outside. “Dia! Wait!” Daffodil said.
“I'll be right back!” Dia said and giggled and flew out into the rain. She then found a clear spot where she quickly summoned a lot of magic weeds and grasped one.
She closed her eyes and began to imagine that big leaf and quickly the grass grew really big and into the desired shape.
She let go and made all of the magic weeds transform into that and then flew back into the house with a grin.
When the rain stopped she will try to get flower spirits to grab them and see if they transform. She couldn’t wait.
Sadly for her, the rain only got more intense and lightning began to flash through the skies. It was both scary and amazing to see. It was quickly discovered the island clouds don’t let electricity pass, but cloud water does, extremely well actually, and because of that whenever the lightning flashed it would draw into the dungeon and would dart around the cloud sea like angry snakes.
Dia was really worried about all her spirits but could do nothing but stay inside. Like this, a whole three days passed with dense rain falling and lightning flashing through the dungeon and when it cleared it was a total relief for everyone to be able to leave their houses safely.
Dia quickly left to see how everyone did and happily found the fairies already fluttering around. She soon found the empress and asked her how it went.
“We had the gnomes cover us in a dome of dirt and pull us underground during the storm. Only the sylphs remained outside because they are a race that could benefit greatly from a storm since it carries a tremendous amount of wind mana. You should go check on them, I need to see if there is damage to the gardens.” the empress says.
Dia nodded and took to the air as she went to the side of the island the sylphs lived in. As she approached it she suddenly saw a little flash pass by her causing her to freak out until she saw what it it was and what she saw was a small ball of electricity. Slowly it began to change and a cute tanned upper body with yellow hair appeared while the legs remained in the glowing ball of electricity.
The little creature waved and flew off leaving Dia in a daze. Then suddenly a strong wind appeared and a sylph appeared but the normally clear cyclone had changed into a swirly black cloud tornado and the sylph in it had dark hair and pale skin. She stopped and bowed to Dia before going off to chase the lightning one.
Dia just looked at them and floated down to the village. The entire place was in a buzz, literally. Wisps that are supposed to be light green were yellow and were zipping around really quickly and the sylphs were split between sylph, greater sylph, the black tornado and a few rare lightning boys.
Dia quickly moved about and found the queen sylph. Dia was shocked to find her tanned with brown hair. In addition her feet were like Dia’s but she stood on two little balls of lightning and in her hand was a golden staff with the top shaped like a lightning bolt.
When the queen saw Dia she smiled brightly. “Master, it's good to see you doing well!” She said extremely cheerfully.
“What happened?” Dia asked perplexed at all the activity.
“We had a blast during the storm. Even now I feel tingly from so much energy rushing around.” She said trembling a bit.
“What are all these?” Dia pointed.
Suddenly she felt a little body sit on her shoulder while Misty worked to keep her hair and fur from spiking up.
“You guys are too electrifying! Cut the lightning already!” Misty complained.
“Sorry dear but it’s in our nature now.” The queen apologized.
“Misty, what are they?” Dia asked.
The cat girl fairy flew off her shoulder while working to brush her hair down but failed and gave up. “Those little ones made of lightning are Lightning Wisps, they can only appear when an air wisp is bathed in a thunderstorm’s lightning. The ones that are like sylph are known as Lightning Spirits, they are similar to sylph but they are made of pure lightning, are super quick and a big pain in the bum. Those dark sylphs are called Greater Storm Sylphs, they came when normal sylphs play in clouds filled with lightning. Lastly the queen sucked in so much lightning that she transformed from a queen sylph to a Queen Lightning Spirit Priestess. She is even someone the lightning god had interest in and granted this lightning staff that can concentrate her power.” Misty explained.
“Are they strong?” Dia asked.
The queen giggled as her grin grew very wide. She proudly stuck out her completely flat chest, “I'm way stronger than the bell flower empress spirit now. She won’t even be able to see me when I turn into lightning.”
Dia clapped but didn’t really get what that meant but was happy for the queen. Seeing them safe, Dia then began to fly around to see if there was any other creature that evolved and found that a few cloud rabbits became ‘ugly monsters’ and were storm cloud rabbits. The cloud bears were a similar story, but the sky wolves and dire sky wolves had hidden themselves and were unaffected. On all floors lightning wisps and lightning spirits appeared, but not much else was affected.
Seeing nothing else, she met with Mir and Misty who were at the first floor and they explained to Dia that they will go down to the city to see the situation and if they need some form of help.
Dia waves them off and goes to practice with Daffodil because she saw the fossegrim boy training as well making her more motivated. When she returned to the third floor, she was instantly distracted by a flower fairy that had become a Koropokkuru. This small being was no longer a flower spirit and was instead a nature spirit that lives under the fuki flowers Dia made. She wore some little tribal clothing, had a cold aura about her and she seemed to be able to do ice magic which no creature could before. She remained under the flowers because it was too hot for her, meaning Dia would need to make a cold floor for her eventually or give her an island she could freeze or cool when there are more.
She went to practice afterwards spending more time there since there was little else to do.
