《Cloud Dungeon》Chapter 7

“Hey Mir? Will we ever let someone enter the dungeon?” Dia asked.
“I hope not.” Mir replied after all the fuss was finished and no more chaos was left. That said, the monsters were starting to populate the islands and branching off into groups and soon fighting would restart.
This was a natural thing to make sure monsters were strong.
“Sad to say, but natural growth like this won’t happen any more after the second floor is complete.” Misty said flying over. “Natural dungeons absorb ambient mana very slowly, but they can remain closed for as long as possible. They open up because this absorption is too slow. Dia, who has such a large absorption rate because she was born out in the open already as well as passing through a mana well and then she got the spirits who build her dungeon for her, will only grow until the max of the second floor before she needs to make an opening.”
Mir frowned, but since Misty had said so then it couldn’t be false since she was the only one with knowledge of Dia’s dungeon.
“So we will have to kill after all.” Mir sighed.
“Nope, it’s the opposite. The dungeon will get better the more people are inside because the mana they emit will be taken in. When they die they release the mana in the body, but that’s it. Dia doesn’t ‘eat’ the body like common dungeons exactly because of her absorption rate.” Misty said.
“Why the hell was she made like this?” Mir asked.
“Because Dia is a little girl that wants a fairyland and do you think such a place will be filled with mass murder?” Misty replied.
“Ah… that makes sense, if it's like this then she is a peaceful dungeon. It would be very possible to make dungeon contracts to act as protection for us.” Mir said.
“That is the main focus of this dungeon. It needs the sentient races living inside her. Didn’t you notice how the first island cloud on the first floor was three times bigger, yet no monsters are on it? Only flowers and trees were planted and none of them are monsters.” Misty asked.
Upon hearing this Mir stood and went to check. She soon returned with a bit of shock showing on her face.
“Who knew it was like this.” She said.
“Every floor has a single island that will form into a safe island at the start and every 10 floors the next floor will be completely safe allowing a main island to form a town.” Misty explained.
“I think we should open the dungeon in an elven nation then. They are the only ones that will appreciate this type of dungeon and they are the most calm minded ones. If Dia makes a monster core in me I can even represent her.” Mir said.
“I can leave the dungeon you know? I was born with a monster core, a really dense one.” Misty said.
Mir rolled her eyes and she began to think.
“Dia… how would you make the stairs into your dungeon?” Mir asked.
Dia simply lifted her finger and slowly mana gathered. Soon seven small beans each with one color of the rainbow appeared.
“Just throw these out off the cloud together.” She said.
“How do you know it will work?” Mir asked.
Dia just shrugged which makes Mir sigh. She rubbed her forehead then looked back at the ghost of the little girl.
“Dia, make the dungeon fly southwest to the capital of the nation called Joryoku. That is the homeland of elves.” Mir said.

After blinking a few times, a gentle wind began to blow in the dungeon as the dungeon picked up speed and left the area.

The capital of Joryoku is considered a spectacle of nature and magic. The elves, with their magic, have created a true city of trees. They possess a unique affinity to nature and because of this, they learned how to mold trees into different shapes and types through magic. Over the centuries this has been polished and the city is now like a massive garden in the forest. From above it will be hidden from sight, but from below it would seem like an infinitely growing city with no end.
At this time, the sky was perfectly clear and the sun was shining, but slowly strange clouds began to appear.
A few more magic sensitive elves noticed something was up because they could feel nature's breath and knew rain would not come for three more days, yet clouds had appeared. Although some spread out, they seemed to stop directly over the city.
After a while there was some panic and in the palace a servant came before the Queen and reported the strange phenomenon.
“Has Archmage Clover examined this?” She asked.
“His lord Archmage Clover has left several weeks ago to search for that moving dungeon and has yet to return.” The servant says.
The Queen’s eyes narrow upon hearing this.
“Moving dungeon… get a mage to scry for the dungeon!” She announced and the servant bowed and brought a large map and an elven mage.
The map was of the known mapped world. The mage was the best disciple of the archmage and so he knew the magic for scrying. He pulled out a box with oval mithril pendants and allowed them to freely fall over the map before he recited the magic.
Slowly they began to light up and stand at one point. They then moved around and stopped before touching the map where each dungeon was located.
To the shock of the mage and all those present, right over the symbol of their capital a pendant was floating 5 cm off the map yet it was steady and remained there.
“Someone quickly send a magical transmission to Archmage Clover and tell him to return! The dungeon is here in the capital and it’s in the clouds!” The queen announced.
At this time an earthquake spread throughout the entire capital.
Everyone was taken by surprise and quickly moved outside. When they got to the balcony on the front of the castle they saw a massive trunk of some kind of plant growing 2 kilometers away from the city gates. It reached right into the clouds and soon sprouted many leaves that spun around the trunk that was turning brown as it hardened.
“What in the great goddess is that!” The mage said.
At this moment they felt a small breath of pure mana coming from that direction. It was like a warm wave and it caused all the magic users to have a crawling feeling on their skin.
They knew this feeling, but it was never this gentle. Dungeons have the same thing, but many if not all are savage and unbridled waves that are used to search the surroundings and attract animals.
That said, soon the leaves curled up blocking passage as monsters began to approach.
“What? Is the dungeon trying to deny entry to monsters?” The queen said.
With her magic perception she could easily sense the movements of every being within a 100 km radius of herself and the beanstalk was within that. She could feel how the monsters were trying to enter, yet the massive tree would beat them away or push them off.

“Greetings to all elves!” A sudden gentle and creamy voice filled the ears of all the elves. They all looked up and upon doing so they saw an amazing sight of an elf with wooden arms, legs and a pair of wings. She was wearing a flower dress and on her back were two sets of long branches and were huge leaves that were working as wings.
Next to her was a cat eared and tailed fairy that was flying cheerfully down.
“Who are you?” The queen snapped out of it and asked. After a moment of looking at the elf flying she couldn’t help asking, “...and what are you?”
“My name is Grivmir, but you may call me Mir as this fairy and Dia call me.” She said dejected.
The expression confused the elf queen, but that's besides the point.
“Who is Dia and what are you?” The queen asked more insistent.
“I am a wood elf, but one from the origins, a true wood elf. I am a type of fairy or spirit. As for who is Dia, she is the dungeon I am in service of.” Mir said.
“In service of? You were not naturally born in it? That means you’re a contracted being?” the queen asked.
“More or less, but that is besides the point.” Misty said impatiently and flew in front of the Queen. “We are representing Dia because she is too immature to make decisions on her own. We want to make a contract between Dia and your elf nation.” Misty said.
Mir landed on the balcony and the wings on her back withdrew into her back.
“Dia is a unique type of dungeon made of clouds with an island in the center. She also grows much faster but she is very peaceful compared to the common dungeon.” Mir said.
“Since this is about a contract, I request that you wait for our nation's head archmage. He understands this concept better. I am rather ignorant in this topic and wish to talk it out with him.” The queen said.
“That is fine, when he returns we will return to speak, we can feel the presence of most of the beings around the dungeon. Oh, as you already noticed, the beanstalk is the entrance to the dungeon, but Dia doesn’t wish to have, as she says, ugly scary monsters in her dungeon. Before you ask, she is reborn from the soul of a 4 year old child. I hope you will all help push the monsters back away from the entrance or else it will be difficult for you to enter since she will not open the leaves that are form the steps into the stairs.” Mir said and her wings extend once more.
The two take to the air and flew quickly into the clouds.
The queen was a bit stunned by learning about a new kind of dungeon, but instantly her eyes turned sharp as her eyes land on the base of the beanstalk.
“Get the royal army around that beanstalk! Clear the monsters and put up a watch! Call the architects to start planning on siege class strength walls to be built to be able to handle the waves. Set that area as a dungeon town site. Don’t inform anyone besides the builders until we can assess the dungeon itself. If what that fairy said is true then it is still a newborn with not many floors and still weak, as well as being peaceful. We need to set up regulations on how dungeon diving in this dungeon will be done. Also…” She turned around. “...GET IN CONTACT WITH CLOVER!”
***
Far off near the Holy Land, in a very tall majestic tree, a figure sat cross legged inside a room formed after molding the tree’s interior to allow him to hide inside.
Unlike all the old men, this archmage looked no older than thirty with bright green hair and fair white skin. His attire was that of a simple old dark green robe and his ears were pointed as a sign of being an elf. On his left ear was a unique earring that hung a glowing emerald. This was a unique gem made from a dungeon core that was born with plant monsters. The first monsters always determine the affinity of the dungeon and as a plant dungeon it gave a powerful gem that helped with doing plant magic.
The elf just sat there, but suddenly his left ear pricked as if he heard something.
His eyes opened as mana began to fluctuate around before it released a voice. A very familiar and irritating voice to the elf.
“CLOVER! GET BACK HERE NOW! THE DUNGEON YOU RAN OFF AFTER HAS APPEARED HERE AT THE CAPITAL!”
The shout from the queen rang in the elf archmage’s ear causing a headache.
“God damnit! That woman doesn’t know how to keep her voice down when talking to me. You would have expected for her to learn to control her voice after several hundred years, yet she still screams at her little brother with all her might.” He sighed, but as he stood up he thought of the words she just spoke.
“Wait! Did she say the dungeon was there!” He suddenly realized and waved his hand causing a blue glowing map of the known world to appear. This was a magic spell named ‘Magic Map’ it projects all the known world the caster has visited in great detail. He grabs many mithril pendants and cast the spell to see the dungeons and as it was shown, the dungeon was indeed at the elven capital.
Instantly the elf grinned as he felt the presence of the other archmages. He was most worried about that disgusting undead skeleton king obtaining this dungeon, but now the dungeon went directly to his home nation. How could he not be happy.
He withdraws his pendants and opens the door of the tree and cast a simple spell to return the tree to its natural shape and then he pulls out a small emerald.
Filling it with mana, the gem began to glow and flew into the sky becoming an emerald boat that the elf jumped into.
The reason for doing this was simple, The Holy Land don’t want any sentient beings not of their creed within the mana spring. The archmages all had magic to conceal themselves, but this display of magic outright showed off his position and there were four evil archmages near this elf’s position followed by the rest that were scattered.
This was, in the simplest of words, showing that there were intruders.
The boat glowed green as it became a speeding streak of green as it raced off back to the elven nation.
As soon as all the archmages felt the surge of the elf’s mana they paled and quickly went to see only to see the stupid elf flash and vanish into the distance.
All the archmages mobilized themselves so as to not be caught by the men of the Holy Land and soon raced off, but not all of them were fast enough. Soon, a beam of light came crashing down at many of them. Being an archmage meant being powerful so obviously they launched powerful spells back blocking the wave, but this was the combined power of dozens of powerful mages so they could only stall and run away.
They all cursed at Clover for attracting the Holy Land’s attention towards them.
A number were hit by the attack and even some ‘evil’ and ‘good’ archmages were killed, the rest left the confines of the mana spring and returned to their nations in a terrible mood.
