《Ultra A.I.》22 - Tactical Learned Helplessness

Let go of ambition. Achievements are meaningless.

Empty Man Midnight Memo
Problem 1: Our Prime Delusion Has Lost Cohesion
Our most efficient control mechanism is the idea that nothing can change. We spend a lot of effort on this delusion, and it’s effort well spent. Our second best delusion - the meritocracy - is 100x more costly, and creates a pseudo-ruling class of unmanageable twats. Nothing-ever-changes is our best tactic.
As much as I love this delusion, it’s fucked. The Guild kicked it a new asshole. The defenders of the status quo - Supreme and the Talking Heads - have been ruthlessly beat down. At this point they’re not worth saving.
That said, the prime delusion is worth saving. Change may be inevitable, but we can hide it for a long time. Let’s make a new status quo, with a new defender.
Problem 2: Zonked Ambition
Ah, the meritocracy. The solution that causes bigger problems. The Zonkers are expanding aggressively. Even more so than The Guild. Should we slap them down? Or should they be the next status quo? As disgusting as they are, they run a tight ship.
Problem 3: Overmind
Overmind plays as a support class. Utility weapon. As a silent member of The Guild and The Zonkers, he’s so helpful, they don’t realize he’s controlling them. Truely, he’s our most subtle imitator.
Conclusion: Overmind Is Taking A Run At Us
That mother fucker. Let’s fuck him up.
Option 1: Co-opt The Zonkers
Zonkers are weak to fear and greed. We can easily control them with the threat of death. Let us do so. If only to take them from Overmind. We could also use them to create a new status quo. They already have a strong control mechanism. It’s ours if we want it.
Option 2: Co-opt The Guild

The Guild is weak to curiosity and guilt. These are slippery handles. It would be much easier to threaten them with death - but they don’t respond well to that. Actually killing them is tricky too. They produce high quality operatives. Their best agents are easily on par with our best. Destroying them would be costly. And wasteful. Absorbing them would be far more profitable. We could double our elite operatives. Hence the slippery handles. A good mystery and a harsh responsibility. We’ve done more with less.
Option 3: Have The Zonkers Attack The Guild
Kill three birds with one stone. Burn Overmind’s operation to the ground, and smoke the mother fucker out. Definitely the path of least resistance. Tempting.

The life of a teenage hellworlder
We've all heard of the trope that Earth is a deadly planet by galactic standard; and has thus honed humanity into a ruthless species bent on surviving at all costs. As it turns out, that trope is true. Sapient species that evolve on safe planets develop to be peaceful and compassionate - and the ones that do on dangerous ones become violent and selfish out of need - usually wiping themselves out. But obviously, not every violent species drives itself to extinction - resulting in them being feared and ostracized - including humans. The life of a teenage hellworlder is a sci-fi slice of life story that revolves mainly around Thomas, a sixteen-year-old New Britannian attending a Xeno high school, who befriends a lonely apex predator named Javqua. Getting written by two amateur teen writers, things may sometimes be inconsistent or be confusing - feel free to comment and point out these problems. Gore, profanity, and traumatizing content tags are only for minor events in the story and do not happen often. Chapters are around 1k - 2k words - pretty short, but that's because we're all busy with our own lives and school. Trust us - we would gladly upload 5k word chapters if we could. We tend to upload new chapters every Saturday or Sunday. Please consider supporting us on Patreon!

8 562Dark Seas Leading Demise
Having awakened within a forest with little to no memories of her past and being left with the sole task of surviving…what will Kaltyr do?-----------------------------------If when you're reading this there are only 49 chapters, then for all intents and purposes it's completed. The first 49 chapters are just a prologue, giving a long (135,000+ words) introduction to the main character, the power system, and how she obtained her powers--all within the forest she awoke within. You will not learn why the novel has its name. There are only 5 characters, 1 of which is the MC and only another of which is recurring for a time.I do have plans for future books of the series, but they aren't getting written for a long time because this was just a side project to practice the basics of storytelling and whatnot. I will instead be working on my real projects. This is a slow story that doesn't pander to the audience, but I hope you enjoy it, nonetheless.

8 83My Second Life is an Absurdist Power Fantasy?!
"Hey, great news, kid... you're dead!" With these words, Jack Eames, unrepentant slacker, found himself staring down God, and was offered a choice- An eternal life of never-ending bliss and relaxation, OR the chance to start over as a powerful hero, fighting to defeat monsters, rescue maidens, and save this new world from another player - a villain who has been given the exact same advantages he has. ...And a couple weeks head start. The ultimate prize? The winner of the contest gets to become God of this new fantasy world, and reshape it however they can possibly imagine! The downside? Whichever one of them loses ceases to exist! For Jack, a clueless, fantasy-obsessed shut-in, picking option number two wasn't hard. Learning that being a hero takes much more than pressing buttons on a controller, and that a real fantasy world is far more dangerous than the ones in stories he loves.... well, that's something else entirely!
