《Don't label me!》Epilogue

We are the champions, no time for losers…

I was flying high, floating on a wave of success that not even my exhaustion was able to diminish. Over the last few days, I had been on top of the world, but yesterday had topped it all. Last Friday, I had kissed the most awesome girl on the planet but chickened out afterwards.. On Saturday, she had tracked me down and agreed to be my girlfriend. On Sunday, we had struck a serious blow against those fucking gangbangers.

And yesterday, she had proven that she was, like, the most magnificent badass bitch on the planet. Hell, she had saved the friggin’ city, even if most people didn’t know it. They were here, because my Lexie was badass to the limit. I had no idea how exactly she did it, but somehow, she had blown those scourge-monsters sky-high. Sure, the league heroine had helped somehow, but without my Lexie, the gullible little fool was just weak. I could hardly wait what her mind would cook up next, it would be awesome.

I somehow missed her before school, but she was here, somewhere, maybe she was with the principal, pressing charges against that turd Clark. How dare that scumbag hit my Lexie?! Part of me wanted to take the time to track him down and introduce him to my fist but I knew that Lexie would object. She played by a strange set of rules, but I was certain that she had her reasons.

School dragged on, and I didn’t spot my Lexie, even at lunch there was no trace of her. My gut clenched, something was wrong. I was certain of it.

I left the cafeteria and pulled out my mobile. Dialing Lexie’s number from memory was easy but a sense of foreboding enveloped me.

“Yes, hello?” A sad, mature voice spoke. It was certainly not Lexie.

“Hello? I was trying to reach L… Alexandria King. Did I dial the wrong number?” I asked, trying to keep my voice level.

“You have the right number. Might, I ask who that is?”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m a friend of Alexandria’s, from school. My name is Sophia.”

“Ah, hello. This is her step-mother, Grace. You were with her Friday afternoon, weren’t you?” the voice asked. Now, I was seriously spooked. Lexie had spoken little about her family and even less about her step-mother. It was the first time I heard her name, Lexie had always just referred to her as barbie. And now she had Lexie’s mobile?

“Yes. What’s wrong? Why do you have her phone?” I asked, panic creeping into my voice.

“I… I don’t know how to say it. I’m sorry, but there has been an incident. She… she’s gone.” her voice broke on the phone. Gone?! No! She could not be gone!
