How I Met Your Monster #22

Morp

Profile:

Morp, (no age listed)

Grey (Alien designation)

Likes: A walk through the red sands of Xcytll, and watching Llonx (Go Cravvs!)

Dislikes: Truger fans. Just kidding. Just know that Cravvs are winning it all this year

Bio:

Recent transplant to this universe. Pretty enjoyable so far. I don't get to get out much thanks to my job, but in my free time, I do enjoy reading your Earthen books. Also American Football is fairly close to Llonx, so that's been interesting. Not enough killing though, for my tastes. Anything else, feel free to ask!

The fight is on, brothers. You've been waiting for a sign, for the catalyst. This is it. Grab your weapons, and meet at the site where Glariel fell. We will ride on the third Monday of May, banners high, and will demand the Prade family to give up their throne at once. For the rebellion, for the world. For our right!

I've always had a fascination with the night sky. My father instilled it in me. When he was younger, the only thing known to humans was humans. Everything else was considered fantasy. But some of those fantastical beings were more believed than others. Ghosts. Vampires. Werewolves. But my favorite was always aliens. So, when Morp came across my phone screen as I was setting up interviews, I couldn't swipe right fast enough.

Morp was designated as a Grey. They're the first known visitors to Earth. Short. Bulbous heads. Pure black oval eyes. And grey skin. Morp told me that they all do exactly the same, but the male of the species was generally about half an inch taller. I texted my dad prior to the interview. He is jealous.

She met me on a large hill known to the locals as Big Baldo. It is perfectly round, with very little grass. She has a blanket stretched out, with a picnic basket and food spread out. She pats the blanket next to me and opens a bottle of wine.

"I have to say, I love that you chose stargazing, Silas. I know it may seem weird, but looking back on my home world from here, and the worlds of my friends is a hobby I have come to enjoy."

"Are you wanting to go back?"

"Yes. But that will not ever happen. My world has been desolated by an unknown force. The neighboring plants fared no better. I was here when it happen, on a mission gone wrong. I know a lot escaped, but not all. But if you look on the very edge of your galaxy, you can make out it's faint red light in clear weather like this."

I stared where she pointed for a good long while. Most people would miss it or mistake it for a piece of fuzz in your eye.

"How are we able to see it from here?"

"It exists to be found. It is much, much further than it seems, but it wants to be explored. We were a very friendly, inviting people. And our planet evolved to be able to be seen from any galaxy. It is the only contentment I get."

"I'm sorry for your loss."

"Yes, thank you. I am lucky to have found a new home here on Earth. Your people are not all welcoming, but most are. It helps that my engineering job really, really likes my work." She laughed at this, and I couldn't help but join her.

"So, is there nobody at work worth dating? Is that why you are on Unhinged?"

"There are a few guys that look at me with the excitement of your people, but their minds are also clearly looking at the scientific side of it. As much as I understand the want and need to know more for science, I also would like to be treated for who I am, not what I am."

I nodded, "I can understand that. My people have a tendency to look for what we want instead of what it is."

"It's very common," Morp said. "I will admit, the few times I have joined with a human, I approached it all very scientifically. So I need to do better myself. Hence, dating. I figured it would be easier to join Unhinged, as the other users will have similar hang ups to me. I will probably move on to a human dating site, but when I heard you were doing this, I jumped at the opportunity."

"To try dating a human without studying me?"

She nodded. A dark grey dot appeared under the two holes that would be her nostrils. I didn't know any better, but I assume it was a blush.

"So, tell me about your planet?"

"I do not see the use."

"Things can live on in memory. And this will be transcribed for the internet, so it will last even longer."

Her small lips upturned. Then she offered a curt nod. "I am technically from Xcytll on my father's side, but I was raised on Juunog. It was very much like your rainforest, except covering the entire planet. The livable area was small, so we were all close. We had a small Llonx team that was a feeder team for the Xcytll Cravvs and I knew every player that was on the team. I only mention this to tell you how close we all were. I knew every single person on the planet. They were friends, family. Enemies. And yet even a small city here is overwhelming sometimes."

"I get that."

"Silas, may I make a request? I have enjoyed spending this time with you. I have yet to see you as an experiment minus the obvious one where I am not trying to see you as an experiment."

"Sure, what can I help you with?"

"Have you enjoyed this date?"

"Yes, your food and wine was great, and your company even better."

"This is good. Then I must request that this date carries on to many date's natural conclusion. I am willing if you are."

It took me a second to process what she was saying, then I felt the heat rise to my own cheeks. That feeling quickly washed away as the spirit of the potion filled my chest. My anxiousness disappeared completely.

"Morp, I would love absolutely nothing more than to take you home tonight. Whenever you're ready, just say the word."

"The word." We packed up her picnic basket and blanket and she offered me a chaste kiss on the lips. It was odd, not what I was used to or expecting. And we made our way back to my apartment.

There are many creatures in our world, dear readers. Many we are lucky to know personally, unlike the generations before us. Currently, we are very focused on learning, but that shouldn't take away the intrigue and mystery the stars gave me when I was young. It fills my heart with hope that there are still those in our world and worlds beyond that exist that we do not know about. But also, there are creatures here that we can know about if we just take the chance. Even each other. Until next time.
