I've got to say, I've never expected to have a date start at a religious building. Just not really the first thing you think when you think date. But as I stood outside on a dreary rainy day, looking at the cathedral, I found humor in where this job has taken me. Even though the sky was dark and it had been pouring all day, the rain suddenly stopped. I could hear birds chirping, and as I went to close my umbrella, I noticed both it and me were suddenly dry. The temperature warmed and the sun came through the clouds.
"Hello," a soft, but strong voice sounded from behind me. I turned and faced Christie, all seven foot tall, impossibly pale and glowing all at once. Her double set of wings stretched out away from her, made from feather or something more. She gently wrapped her arms around me in greeting and the entire force of my being was warmed. I could feel my heart swell with caring and my soul felt peace. It was pretty neat.

"Hey there, Christie. It's nice to meet you. You said you had an idea for a date?"
"Yes, I have often heard of these great places you mortals put a lot of importance too. I believe they are called arcades."
I was a bit taken aback by that, but I held out my elbow for her to wrap her arm in and we took off down the street. I'm no shorty myself, but walking in tandem with a seven foot tall Seraph is no easy feet. Christie must have sense my discomfort, as she slowly shrunk her size and folder her wings down closer to her back.
When we got to the arcade, I showed her how it effectively worked and bought us some tokens. Everyone looked at her in awe, but by the time she was sinking shots at skeeball, they were more about cheering on the Seraph rather than leering at her. She proceeded to kick my ass at minigolf, but I got my win on the go kart track. We turned in our tickets to the counter, where she got a small stuffed animal and some candy, and sat down at one of the outdoor picnic tables.
"This, Silas. This is what I wanted to experience."
"What, stale nachos?"
She chuckled, "Of course not. Though the cheese is rather pleasant. I wanted to experience a mortal dating practice. I'm hoping more of the people on the app will be willing to do things like this."
"I'm sure you'll find some people who would be down for that. Is that why you're on the site? How does the site even reach . . . you know, up there?"
Another chuckle, "Everything reaches the heavens. It is a great place. We must all experience time on the mortal plane, however, so we can see and meet the people we are serving above. Based on my research, dating seemed like the best way to experience several different things. Like aquariums, and baseball games."

"You could always do a lot of different stuff on you own, you know?"
She nodded, "I do realize this, yes. But, I must also get to know the people I serve. Not just the world. Dating allows that as well. I can enjoys these things while also getting to know specific people."
"Huh. I guess I never thought about it. Aren't you worried about how people may approach you? Even now, Seraph are not common. Most celestial beings aren't."
"This is true. But as the accords work here, they work stronger on my scale. I could go on a date with a demon lord, and I would still be protected as I remain in physical form. I am a guest of Mother Earth, and I will be protected as such."
"That's pretty awesome to know. How much longer do you have?"
"I return to the heavens in seven days from now. I have a lot I would enjoy seeing and doing, but I must cut my list short. Luckily, I can apply for another leave like this in the future."
"What do you do up there?"
She smirked, "I am a researcher. I study your plane as well as a few others I may not go into detail about. Though I will say that yours interests me the most. When I have a specialty, I may claim this Earth as my purview."
"What does that entail?"
"As of now, I assist those who need it in the regions I watch over. Currently, that means any unassigned area, such as this. When I am fully trained and approved, I may pick one of the unassigned areas as my own, and get further information on it for our records."
"Is it . . . a bad thing to be unassigned?"
She shook her head, "There are many, many more worlds than there are Seraph to watch them. We are constantly playing catch up, as it were. I currently assist with over three thousand. Unassigned just hasn't been chosen on interest, but I think I may just end of watching here. Especially if skydiving is as fun as it sounds."
I walked her back to the religious building, where she hugged me again. "Your sins are forgiven. Try not to get too many more," she said with a wink. The sun's light swung into my vision, causing me to cast my eyes downward, and as they came back up, she was gone.
And interesting event to say the least, dear readers. I don't know what I expected, but I am happy with what I got. I absolutely love arcades, even dingy local ones like the one we went too. Plus, I knew she wasn't going to be a bad date, just based on who she is. I also believe she gave me a good message today. I've been treating this like a job, scheduling interviews and just asking my questions, but I could be experiencing more. Dates give us the opportunity on two fronts-entertainment and connections. And isn't that what this is truly all about?
Plus, if you haven't seen a Seraph just absolute destroy at whac-a-mole, then you are for certain missing out on one of the greatest things life has to offer. I mean, damn. Super glad she picked arcade for our date. I would have been poor company on skydiving. Until next time.
