Unhinged dropped me off at the bottom of the castle once known as Skippire Peaks. The cold air emenating from the castle worked against the nice, warm day that the Spring had given us. I knew she stood at its top, but she agreed to meet me in the foyer. I knocked on the door, an echo rippling through the hollow halls inside. A man in a tux answered. I had never seen a butler in real life before.

He guided me into the castle, and soon after, she descended from the large staircase before me. In her human form, she was still a creature to be reckoned with. Her eyes glowed gold. Her hair was icy white. She stood tall and slender, with sharpened nails and smiled with sharper teeth. She approached me and held out her hand. I took it and kissed it lightly.

"I see you've learned your manners well somewhere, Master Silas."

"My lady Devon, a pleasure. Your beauty and power precedes you, but do not do you justice."

Her eyes glowed at that. I hadn't had the experience of running into too many dragons in my life, but I made sure I was prepared. Keep their egos big and give them no reason not to trust you, and you'll be fine. Make one wrong move, and get ready for whatever breath weapon they have at their exposal.

"So tell me, Lady Devon, what brings you to an app? Surely you have plenty of suitors killing each other to see you."

"I do. Or at least, I did." She walked across the foyer into a sitting room, where she grabbed a decanter and began pouring a dark amber liquid. "Sadly, they all did indeed kill each other. And the victor was not truly worthy. So I thought, maybe someone in the lower tiers of society had what it takes to be brought up. I mean, that's what my mother did."

"I have heard great things of Skral."

"You lie, but I appreciate it. My mother was not without her flaws. When she first took this castle, she was sloppy. She was also lucky. Those back then did not know how to defend against a dragon. They fled and she took hold, giving them time to learn and grow stronger. I was there when they fought back. She told me to fly away and I listened."

"You took Skippire back though?"

"I did. I found my mother's brethren, and they finished my training. They had plans to take back the castle, but I quickly showed them that I was no slouch. I finished off my kin and made my way back here. A mixture of magic and ice breath, and here we are."

"Very impressive. Your mother waited eons before finding a mate and having you. You are still incredibly young and in the prime of your life. Why so soon?"

She laughed then breathed softly on her glass. The tumbler chilled and she took a sip, "My mother had her fair share of visitors. She also had her fair share of children. I was just the one she kept for herself. I have untold amounts of siblings in the world, raised by their fathers. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I have other plans."

"And what are those plans, Lady Devon?"

"In these halls lie vast treasure, Master Silas. In the halls of my kin, there lay more. I filled their bones with it so they may rest in peace knowing their horde is still theirs in a way. My siblings though, if they are nearby, they will smell it. And if they are far, they will eventually seek it. I want to raise my own family, my own kids. We will work together to slay who we must and collect the bounties that follow. As far as my full plan, well, I can't just come out and tell you that."

I nod, "So, how does that work then. If you were to find say, an imp, worthy to breed with you, would it be possible?"

"The magic of dragons is a deep, rich, unknown sort of magic. I could mate with almost anything and dragon would still be the prominent species. That is certain."

"If that's the case, why not breed with many?"

She laughed, and the room grew chillier, "I have inherited some of my mother's flaws. It is nature. If I were to breed with someone weak or not worthy, then my children could inherit those flaws as well. If I am to achieve my goals, keep Skippire, and expand my control, then I will need my children to be able to hold their own."

"I see."

"I am not a terror. I will love my children, no matter what. If some flaw were to come up, then my feelings toward them would not change. But to not have to worry about them in battle any more than normal is a boon."

"Why not just accept Skippire. Why the want and need to expand?"

"Skippire will always have Skral's name attached to it. It will be the castle she took and lost, and I will be Skral's daughter who took it back. The way of dragons is greed, Master Silas, and my greed is wanting to make my own name shouted louder than any other dragon who came before me. I will find a mate who will stand at my side, and we will bear children who are an extension of ourselves. We will rise and take control as a family."

"But first, your siblings."

"There is news of an ice dragon to the north. I will be starting there and seeing what I may learn. Now, if you excuse me, I must end our interview early."

She hit a button on the wall and the ceiling overhead retracted, revealing the sky above. Scaly blue-white wings pushed from her back, and she grew. More scales appeared along her body until before me stood an adult dragon. I took a bow and she nodded her large head down slightly. She opened her mouth, rows of teeth sparkling, and screeched before shooting up and into the night. Her butler guided me out of the room, and I made my way out of Skippire Peak.

Dear readers, it is not every day that you stand before a dragon. It is especially not every day that one allows you to live or allows you to experience their transformation. I must say, the awe I felt is unparalleled. If you think you have what it takes to stand at Devon's side, you will find much success and wealth. But be very, very sure. Until next time.
