《Fury: Chronicles of the Titanomachy》Fury: Afterword

This story was one I really loved writing. As an author, some stories take a piece of your soul with every word. Other stories rip at your guts. Some are great stories but are a chore to put on paper. Then you get the odd story that is an absolute blast to write. This was one of those stories for me. It is a sword-and-sandals tale written in the first person perspective. It has blood and guts, graphic violence and graphic sex. All of these are things I rarely write, so were an exercise in stretching my own limits.
I had failures that I recognized too late to fix, such as the poor characterizations of the main characters. I failed to do a good job of making them sympathetic to the reader, or really making them terribly interesting. I tried to fix it when I figured it out, but I was a good halfway through the whole thing at that point, so it was a bit too late in the game. I struggled with what was turning out to be an epic story, that was trapped in two viewpoints.
So I learned a lot from the writing of this. I learned that I needed to work on my characterizations more. I learned that if I'm writing an epic story, I cannot trap myself in one or two people's perspective, but need to pull the camera back a bit. But I also learned a lot about what I found fun to write, and that I can hopefully apply it in my other stories.
But for the Titanomachy books, I need some feedback. I need to know if I should continue the series at all. I need to know if I should switch to the 3rd-person perspective if I do, or if I should just tough it out since I've already written the first book. I could also use as much feedback as people are willing to throw in the comments - good and bad. What did you like? What did you hate? What did I screw up but it was still ok to read?

I will need to see a lot of interest for this story to be worth continuing. I have a limited amount of time and a lot of stories to write. So I leave it to you, dear reader.
Thank you to everyone who has read this, and has stuck it out to the end. You are why I write.
EDIT: Thanks to everyone who has provided such immensely helpful feedback! I'm taking your comments to heart, and Volume 2 will be a better work because of it.

Tales of the Terrace Republic
Six centuries into the future and light-years into outer space, the only thing that has not changed is the struggles of the human condition. The desires for power, love and survival persist in Tales of the Terrace Republic, a military space thriller that forges one flawed everyman into a hero. Phillip Murphy is a veteran from a war that ended a decade ago. He hasn’t had a promotion in a long time, and the shrinking armed forces have not been friendly. The Terrace Navy puts him at the helm of a meager torpedo boat – a career-ending assignment. But a routine space patrol finds his ship nearly ambushed by fighters, and when he tails them back to their base, Phillip discovers an anomaly – the investigation of which will change the course of his life forever. Author's disclosure: My purpose in this novel is to explore trading and adventure in a magic world. I'll try to put some humor and good fights in the novel to make it more fun. This is a spin-off novel of AK – The Alchemy Kingdom. You don't have to read the other novel to understand or follow this one. It might offer some additional information and entertainment, tough. You can also check my other spin-off novel, Harbinger of Death, which will be more action-focused and a little grimdark. Even if you are not a fan of the genre, give it a chance. I'm adding some soft romance in the hopes to make it unique and interesting. I'm trying to improve my writing skills, so your comments and reviews are welcome. New chapters three times a week.
