Chapter 409

The Chem-Era, to be fair, at least looked similar to what James had been imagining. Chimera’s, which he’d automatically assumed it was playing off of, were pretty common in video games. The creatures normally had two heads, one of a lion, and one of a goat, with the body of a lion, wings occasionally, and a serpentine tail which had a snake head at the end. Depending on the game, there were obviously variations, but those aspects, for the most part, were always the same.

His new mob on his six floor however, had some immediate differences. First, The Chem-Era, seemed mechanical. Not quite steampunk, but not dissimilar either. It was a strange, mechanical contraption, melded together with flesh and bone, and he could see parts of the interior. It was like a strange mash up of the creature, which started to explain what exactly this floor type was. Mythical monsters, ‘mashed’ with other things, to create the unique mobs for the dungeon type.

The creature looked up at him, the eyes of the lion head growing red, while the goat head had sickly, yellow eyes. The snake tail head, on the other hand, had eyes that glowed a brilliant green. James, couldn’t help but notice each mouth of the creature, had a glow matching the color of the eyes. Something, he figured, which related to the skills. Meaning, it was time to see what exactly the creature could do.

Tri-fecta- The Chem-Era has an affinity for a variety of traits, owing to its unique composition. Each trait is associated with a single head of the creature. Each head, has it’s own abilities. Each breath ability has a 1 minute cooldown.

Infernal Leonide- The lion channels its fury through deadly blasts of radioactive power. This head can spout a burst of flames which have a 1%+ 0.1lvl chance of applying radiation to those hit by it. Radiation stacks can apply further debuffs, based on the number of stacks applied. If a player receives 5 stacks of radiation, they will be instantly killed, and their form will mutate.

Flame kissed bite- Bites from the lion head apply 50% of the damage as fire damage, and have a 5% + 0.2lvl chance of applying a burn. Burns will damage a player by 1% of their HP for an additional 10 seconds, unless the player is healed during that time.

Sulfuric Goat- The goat head releases a toxic, foul smelling gas, that is highly flammable. This gas can corrode armor, granting a 5% debuff to player armor per stack. This gas causes a choking effect while players are within it, causing them to lose 1% of their maximum HP every second they are within the gas cloud.

Insatiable hunger- The goat head can consume foes. Devouring a slain adventurer will empower the Chimera, granting it a temporary boost to its hit points, and increasing the potency of the breath attacks of the three heads, doubling their effects and chances to proc.

Venomous Serpent- The serpent spews noxious gases which poison players. Every 5 seconds a player is exposed to the gas applies a venom stack to a player. Each venom stack deals 2% their current HP in damage, every 5 seconds, and lasts until cleansed.

Blinding Strike- The serpent can make a lightning fast strike, gaining 50% increased accuracy to hit, and gaining a 75% chance to strike, dealing 0.5x ATK in damage, with a 150% critical strike modifier. Bites from the serpent instantly apply 2 venom stacks. T

Unique Traits:

Multi-headed- The Chem-Era gains increased intelligence from its three heads, and has no blind spots. As such, critical attacks cannot land on the Chem-Era. Each head of the Chem-Era has its own portion of its health pool. Dealing 1/3rd of its total health in damage to one of the heads, will destroy that head. Destroying a head will remove the critical strike immunity for a portion of the body associated with that head.

*This creature cannot be killed unless all three heads are destroyed.

Mechanical Composition- The Chem-Era is made from a composite of flesh and mechanical body parts.

This creature has a passive resistance to piercing and slashing damage, decreasing all damage from those sources by 20%.

This creature takes an additional 10% damage from magical attacks.

This creature cannot be healed by magical means.

This creature cannot be poisoned.

This creature does not need to breath.

Electrical attacks have a 1% chance to stun this creature for 2 seconds.

James finished looking at the stats on the creature, which was at least 10 foot in length, not counting the serpent-head tail. It didn’t have wings, meaning at the very least, it wouldn’t be flying around raining death on players, but still, it was formidable. Within the labyrinth, James could see its gas attacks posing a grave danger to adventurers. The confined space would definitely effect the tactics players would have to use, and James could tell this creature was quickly going to rise to the top of terrifying.

Along with that, the fact the breath attacks seemed to have the chance to proc traits and debuffs from James’s radiation tab, was more than a little nifty. It also confirmed he wasn’t unique in having a disease tab and such. It had taken a little while for him to unlock it, but it was even more clear now that other dungeons would, could, and likely had, been playing with their own such diseases. Something he knew he would need to keep in mind for future dungeon wars and skirmishes. DCO gave Dungeons an extremely large tool kit, and it was only a matter of time before someone came along who was utterly devious and destructive with what they’d been offered.

He shivered at the thought of someone spreading a plague on the Fields of Battle, knowing such a thing, if done properly, could completely turn the tide of a battle. Hopefully, his players having to deal with such things on early levels, as well as this Chem-Era, could help them prepare. But, that was for a later date. For now, he was already getting the sense this creature would need to be applied thoughtfully across the labyrinth, as if players ran into more than one in a small space, they’d likely face certain death.

The fact it cost him 28 points to summon, putting it in the middle of the five mob choices he had for the floor, was also mildly concerning. Something this brutal only classified as middle of the pack summon wise. If that was the case, what were the others like? He unsummoned the Chem-Era and closed out of its tab, deciding he might as well get to summoning the other mobs, and seeing what exactly this floor had to offer. Next up, the cheapest of the five mobs, at 26 points. Something called…a J-Kappa?
