Chapter 388

Regardless of the fact James’s players had a higher average level, it was a suicide mission. They knew it, the Dragon Dungeon knew it, James knew it. Two-hundred and some change melee players versus close to one-thousand players hidden within tough terrain, and supported by mobs, meant James’s side was sorely outnumbered.

That being said, the carnage they were capable of releasing, was worth it. Even better, while they may not have been able to wipe out of all the Dragon Dungeon’s players, they at the very least, completed one, extremely important task.

They took out the cultists. And it was glorious.

As everyone expected, rushing into the valley offered the Dragon Dungeon’s players a clear shot of the melee champions. Spells and ranged attacks rained down on the players and Rue. The concentration of James’s players meant not a single spell or ability missed. That being said, the number of buffs, and the various protective abilities, damage mitigating abilities, and just speed with which James’s players were moving, made a lot of the massive, single target skills and abilities fail to bring anyone down.

However, it also meant AOE spells were able to wreak massive havoc on James’s players, and as they rushed, the constant busts of light flashing around his players showed the Paladins, as well as any other tank type classes with healing abilities, were doing their hardest to provide support and keep players alive.

Meanwhile, it quickly became evident for both parties, that they needed to focus fire on a certain target. Rue’s massive form already made her a large target, but it seemed players from the Dragon Dungeon had originally been working to try and bring down his other players, before bothering with the Avatar. That, was a mistake, that Rue made sure they paid for. She was not a force to be ignored. She demanded attention.

Lighting blasts blew apart caves, dragons, and defenses alike as she rushed through. And even as she got deeper into the valley, quickly leaving behind the other players, who were all doing their best to keep up with her impressive speed, she changed gears. No more was she wielding her staff, no more was she blasting lightning at anything that moved. Instead, she went for a more…flashy style of fighting.

She switched to her chain swords mid run, and without missing a beat Rue’s form went from sprinting, to spinning, as she leapt through the air, swinging the mid-range blades in whip like, spiral patterns all around her. The weapons sparked across rocks, sending flames roiling left and right. Any mob caught by her attack was decimated. Players leapt out of her way as she cut massive swathes of character, mob, and terrain out of her path. In that moment, she was Kratos, and everyone before her, was merely a body in her way. A number, to be added to her combo chain and kill list.

That wasn’t to say she wasn’t taking damage. Oh no. She was taking massive amounts of attacks from all around, but given her stats as an Avatar, along with all of the buffs that had been applied to her, she didn’t care. Not only that, James knew she was still holding onto her berserker rage, which would allow her to stay alive at 1 hp for a certain duration, while also giving her an absurd amount of life steal with her attacks.

Because of this, even as players fell behind her, cries of disbelief, surprise, and panic echoed above the sounds of combat. Rue’s warpath had greatly separated her from James’s players, and she was quickly closing the distance between herself, and the cultists.

Rue was on a mission, after all, and she had only a single thought in her mind, revenge. Which was why, no matter how hard they tried, her assault couldn’t be stopped. Her Beastkin traits, her boosted Avatar stats, and all of the various skills and abilities at her disposal, were turned with a single focus. To get revenge and stop the cultists from summoning Tiamat once more.

Rue was not the forgiving kind, and James knew she was hellbent on making that fact extremely clear.

Still, to give the Dragon Dungeon’s players credit, the cultists continued their chanting, working hard to finish the ritual summoning they were attempting. Meanwhile, more and more of the massive, rocky type Dragons were rushing into the valley, trying to put their bodies in the way of the one man army that was the White Beast of Chaos.

If it were any other foe, it may have worked. However, even as the giant tanks took up position before her, Rue growled, flashing her fangs in a grin. Her swords lashed out, sending roiling waves of fire towards the Dragons, causing any other, squishier type players and mobs to leap out of the way.

Then, she crouched down, her swords disappearing as she put all four of her limbs on the ground, in a pounce type position. With a triumphant roar she leapt into the air, propelling herself probably close to 100 feet into the sky, easily clearing the dragons before her, and closing the distance between herself, and the mass of cultists.

In mid air her hands reached up behind her back, and the giant axe, the one that James knew launched ice type attacks, appeared in her hands. At the same time, he saw her pop her cooldowns, ensuring no matter what happened between now, and her landing, she would survive. Likely a good choice, considering the height of her leap.

Then, like a smaller version of the M.I.N.E. Craft, Rue crashed into the ground. All of her momentum, all of her weight and force went into the axe she smashed into the rocky earth. From the point of impact, waves of energy roiled, and ice magic blasted from the Leviathan Axe, turning the crater quickly into a froze wasteland. Cultists popped out of existence, their bodies frozen, and then shattering from the concussive force of Rue’s attack.

Even more impressive, as she decimated the very center of the ritual area, was that her attack seemed to reverberate around her. The rocky canyon tremored as the energy rocked back and forth, the waves becoming amplified and intensifying as they moved onward. While the ice magic from the Leviathan Axe didn’t reach too far back into the canyon from which Rue had leapt, the force of her attack did.

And, when you had massive amounts of energy rushing through rocks, only one thing could come from that. Rue had not only killed the cultists. Instead, she’d unleased a massive earthquake, with her body, and the Leviathan Axe, as the epicenter.

This devastating attack meant the end for not only Rue, and the doomed players on James’s side, who were now trapped in the valley of death. It also brought about the end of who knew how many of the Dragon Dungeon’s players, as the caves they’d been hiding within, as the cliffs they’d been standing atop, shook, crumbled, and shattered. Even as Rue’s cooldowns faded, and she was brought down from the barrage of attacks on her, the terrain itself brought about the end of the rest of the cultists, James’s melee forces, and a decent chunk of the rest of the enemy forces.
