《Morph Genome》Prologue

The sound of machinery filled the air, constant rattling and humming sounds could be heard as lights fluctuated inside a laboratory. Inside the laboratory, many animals could be seen in liquid-filled chambers or frozen in different chambers. Some of the animals were commonly recognized and some were endangered or mysterious rare animals. There were many plants and flowers were encased in an environment simulator, there were also fossils inside the laboratory, some of the fossils appeared to be from dinosaurs and one that appeared to be a giant human.
Some glass cases had titles such as "Extraterrestrial lifeform "Alpha" from TX-2314-231", these specific specimens appeared to be foreign to Earth. The inside of the lab could be described to be the laboratory inside of a horror movie, but this lab was without a doubt a top-notch biological science lab. Based on the accumulated catalogue of organisms and biological specimens, it was clear this was no ordinary lab.
Inside the lab, two people could be seen hard at work as they moved as fast as they could. The two people were male and female and they worked fluidly and seemed to anticipate each other's movements showing a high degree of chemistry between the two. It was clear that they had been working together for quite some time and developed precise co-operation skills.
They both wore matching rings and it was evident that they weren't just co-workers but a couple who were married. There was also a photo on a desk nearby with the couple and a young child about 5 years old, the setting seemed to be an amusement park and a few large structures could be seen behind them. In the picture, the young boy was sitting on the man's shoulders and his childish face was similar to the woman's and his eyes were grey-blue similar to the man's. It was clear that the youth in the picture was the son of this scientist couple, there was a happy smile plastered on the faces of the three on the picture. The boy held a cotton candy in his hands, with a carefree smile on his lips; some candy was stuck at the sides of his lips. In the picture, the woman was laughing as she held a handkerchief in her hands and wiped the face of the boy and the man was stooped low so the woman could reach the boy; his face had a warm smile which didn't fit his muscular and rough appearance.

"Husband...are we doing the right thing?" Asked a beautiful woman of mixed Caucasian/Asian descent who seemed to be in her forties, a look of worry on her face.
Even though the woman was in her forties, she was extremely beautiful for her age. Whether it was the worn-out lab coat she wore, the glasses with too much tape or even the wrinkles at the corner of her eyes, none could hide her marvellous features. This woman was indeed a true beauty and was assuredly even more beautiful when she was younger. Currently, a look of concern and fear was present on her aged face.
"What else can we do?... We had no choice but to resign from the World Scientific Organization (WSO)" Answered a brawny middle-aged man of Caucasian descent.
His face was rough and his long beard swayed as it dangled in front of his chest, he didn't fit the look of a scientist and he looked more like a bodybuilder. His lab coat that hugged his body had tears in some places and stitches in other places, his lab coat seemingly unable to keep his entire body covered. Strands of grey mingled in his messy hair and beard proving that time had taken its toll on him, but the vigour in his grey-blue eyes made him seem very young.
"Certainly...if we found more evidence then-" The woman seemed to not want to give up but was cut off mid-sentence by her husband's reply.
"You underestimate the greed of those old men. Even if we had conclusive evidence it would not matter, they've all been blinded by the prospects of this project. After investing as much money as they did to acquire the ore from Mars, do you think they will just give up on the project?" The man's voice carried a sense of anger as he spoke, clearly not pleased with the people from the WSO.
'He's right...what's the point thinking about this?' The woman silently agreed and decided not to bother wasting time thinking about the situation. As if she remembered something, she suddenly shouted a command-
"Aria! Turn on the news!"
"Affirmative!"
A female robotic voice replied and a large hologram screen opened in mid-air. On the projection screen, there was a beautiful tanned woman who stood with a holographic screen behind her showing a spacecraft moving at high speed.

"---The ship is due to reach orbit in 5 days! We have succeeded in acquiring the ore from Mars and humanity may have just found it's new source of energy! If this new source of energy can be harnessed, we may be able to explore even further into the galaxy! Even colonizing a new planet may not be a dream and it just might be feasible!"
As the woman reported, the excitement in her voice could not be hidden at all. Her cheeks had a small dent on both sides and a smile was present as she spoke happily to the camera.
"5 days...Andrew...do you think we will finish in time?"
The woman asked her husband, her eyes sharpened as she heard the reporter clearly not happy with the ship's return.
"Don't worry...we'll make it. Arisa, Did you contact Dr. Hohenheim?"
Andrew replied to his wife Arisa and asked.
"*Sigh* He had a lot of questions but he said it's completed..." Arisa seemed to be depressed when her husband mentioned Dr. Hohenheim and couldn't help but put her face in her palm.
"He thinks we're crazy...but I believe in Dr. Rosenfield and his predictions. There are too many unknowns about the ores from Mars...also, what we are doing may very much be as insane as what the WSO is doing..." As Andrew said this, he cast a glance at an incubated chamber that was covered in a thin layer of frost in the corner of the laboratory.
"...." His wife Arisa similarly looked at the incubated chamber and a variety of expressions were displayed across her face, from worry and concern, to fear and dread.
On the hologram in the laboratory, the visual of the spacecraft behind the reporter vanished revealing the streets of the city. The two scientists cast a glance at the hologram as the reporter continued her broadcast-
"Well since we're here live on the street, why don't we ask some of the citizens what they think? I have with me here Mr and Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Sullivan what do you think about the Mars project?" The reporter asked excitedly.
The screen then expanded and an older lady standing next an old man gave the reporter a warm smile and replied.
"I think it's a great thing that we've discovered a new source of energy, I hope I live long enough to see what will come of this project" The lady Mrs. Sullivan seemed to share the excitement of the reporter.
"...and you, Mr. Sullivan?" The old man's expression seemed to be a bit of angry, a bitter expression on his face.
He angrily looked at the reporter and started shouting at the camera with saliva flying from his mouth-
"Those good for nothing rich Bas-*bleep* are gonna kill us all! Didn't a few scientists disagree with them and say that it was dangerous and unstable energy? If they bring over a few samples sure, but they haven't even figured out what it is yet! Those *Bleep* *Bleep*-- brought an entire shipload! and now *Bleep* *Bleep*"
The reporter seemed to be in shock as she heard the old man yell profanities at the camera, eventually his false teeth flew from his mouth and hit the droid camera, the reporter hastily pulled the mic away from him and tried to regain her composure. Luckily modern cameras could detect lip movements and censor obscenities before they were actually said.
"I apologize for the inconvenience, we seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties. Now we go back to HQ!"
"Down't yuu der walk awah!" (Don't you dare walk away) The old man didn't give up and chased the reporter as fast as he could, his cane knocking quickly on the floor.
The screen cut and was then transferred to the headquarters of the station where local news was being broadcasted.
"Hahahaha!" Dr. Andrew laughed heartily as if he vented some steam when he heard the old man, the woman also laughed and they resumed working in the laboratory.
If one looked closely at the incubated chamber, the glass at the front of the chamber had hand marks which showed someone constantly kept wiping off the frost to check up on what was inside. If one looked closely they would notice the face of a young boy that seemed to be asleep. The face of the young boy resembled the boy in the picture on the desk.
Author's note: I've decided on rewriting the entire thing as per the pole.
