I snorted a laugh.

I selected my bedroll and had it stripped away to make room, then selected the bed icon and dropped it inside the lean-to. A huge Constructor dropped out of the sky and went to work, hovering just in front of the lean-to so it could aim its lasers inside.

I scratched the back of my head.

I said, as the Constructor finished its work and zoomed back up into the sky.

Ezzie yawned through the link.

The link dropped out so I headed over to the crops that we’d planted. We currently had a single rice paddy, a lonely corn stalk, and a small cluster of wheat in addition to five potato plants.

I harvested everything—which was just a matter of bringing up a floating blue menu in front of the crops—and replanted it all, leaving us with four rice paddies, four stalks of corn, five wheat clusters, and almost twenty potato plants.

We probably wouldn’t have time to replant everything again before the invasion, but it was a relief to know that at the very least we’d have a surplus of food from now on, and that we could greatly expand our fields whenever we needed without dipping into coins.

Hopefully cooking would stop being utter shit before then. But at least it hadn’t taken up a profession slot.

I had the Constructor strip my armor off, then waded into the pool to clean up. Afterward, I crawled onto the bed, set my head down one on of the pillows—I had pillows, plural!—and slept like the dead.
