《Clockwork》Volume 3 Chapter 11 The rogue class Branch
Advertisement
It's week three already of month one since we arrived here.
This last week has been rough to say the least.
Well rough per say. The Undines were able to find water but the problem is that it's very far down and that is the closest. But far down is vague I know, the estimated distance is 50 meters.
Seems close but it's really hard to get to.
Well we had enough water to last use about two weeks with all the clockwork working normally but because of the heat we are heating up to much.
So this was another flaw of the clockwork race I didn't notice. The ones here will need to be equipped with a cooling system.
Thank god the robots we killed have a primitive model for just that. So...thank you Ariel.
As much as I wanted to get the drones working I needed the workers more so the few drones we got I dismantled and learned how it worked.
I used a separate tank holding water from the one used to power the engine. Pipes were thin copper pipes 5 mm wide and worked its way around the body passing through several areas near the inner hind legs which had a hidden fan which acted like a radiator. The pipes would make lots of twists in this area so calling it radiators was correct. The last part was a small pump made to simply pushed the water and remove air from the pipes as it passes.
Seeing the structure I was sure it would take remodeling or even the need for us to make our own pipes. The amount here were made for each body part of the robots specifically so making it in another robot would take more than one raptor.
With only twenty broken raptors we would need two for each worker and four for anything similar in size to a knight.
Damn it, this is a seriously bad weakness which I didn't think of because the south and east gate were in mountain zones which were cooler than our bodies so our bodies naturally cooled. Here it's hell for us and our water boils inside the tank before it even passes through the engine.
Because of this fucked up revelation we had to rely on the other races while the clockwork knights as well as my crew planned to raid the dungeon to get more of the robots.
Luckily the heat was subdued a bit during the early and late ours because after Brock expanded the rock area near the gate to a radius of 500 meters compacting all the sand into rock he and the golems with us built a tall earth wall. Thus let clockwork to exit the giant whale up to 9 am and as early as 6 pm.
Right now Brock was leading the Golems to make an outcrop where the nearest water area is.
The outcrop would be a large rock area which went underground and was covered by a large rock. The lake would be made underground where the water will be safe from the heat and would remain cool.
Once it was ready it they would make a compressed stone pipe like a well and push it all the way down into the underground water sources. If we are lucky the water will not be contaminated since it's in the middle of the desert but since it's close to the scrap yard we aren't too optimistic.
We will most likely need to build a treatment center for the water and then make a second reservoir to hold the clear water which will then be taken care of by the Undine and pumped into the city.

Now for the robots we did have. The first thing I did was have Delta create a code for this exact model of drone for a core motherboard.
Since I now have mana crystals and empty cores that Victor hadn’t had to the to use. I made ten motherboard and we loaded the codes into them and turned them on.
Delta watched each of them for a day and quickly singled out four of them that deciphered the code quickly.
Delta then began to rapidly work with the growing codes making sure that they all possessed the cooling system we knew and saw how it started to evolve with the code.
While this was done I took the twenty robots we had and upgraded Bulk, My two bodies, and two knights that came from South gate.
This was to allow us to walk around during the day and hunt the guarding raptors.
Now for how we keep watch. It is simple, the walls of the scrap yard near the gates all have doors, the inside is similar to castle walls which have floors and such.
For us, it was annoying when we found both sides filled to the brim with trash so clean up ent underway and the broken clockwork were scavenged and melted into usable materials.
What was nice though was a new model of clockwork we found that had some very interesting pieces of gear.
Clockwork (Assassin Unit)An infiltration unit as used for silent killing and spying.
This broken unit normally runs with a stealth unit and is made with a unique construction.
It is a high maintenance class due to the fact that it uses only small well oiled and only brand new pieces to ensure it doesn't make noise during its missions.
Weapon wise it is also unique. Its model look is similar to a worker and most would mistake it for one because scans would not reveal weapons but the reason is its unique construction.
The hands are built in by many smaller then normal pieces not to make the hands dexterous but because it is the weapons. The hands reform themselves into either a sword or a small hand rifle.
Yep, definitely a treasure unit.
We found only this one under a pile near the stairs heading up to the next floor. It was transported to my workshop. Any knight uniques discovered is left in a storage room in Brock's whale while awaiting new parts.
Anyway, after this one we continued to clean up until we had a path to the top of the wall and could overlook the clearing with the robots.
During the week, as cruel as it sounds we have made something of a sport from shooting the robots.
The target was to blow the head only to minimize the damage and but to shoot them down as fast as possible and gather them before the swarm arrives.
It's good training for snipers that is for sure and Nova had fun doing this.
Bulk is our main puller for transport because we built him a cart which would pass the widened gates we made where the previous door was. The knights go out and crush them before rapidly loading the bodies and run back just as the swarm leaves.
An extremist, those who do random extreme sports, would call us crazy but it was fun.
I join in as both sniper and carrier. I noticed that spear throwing was a good weapon for Yasha as it limits the body if you miss the vital organ.
Since I can fire of two at once I just need training. I even had to modify my targeting system just for this but the results were satisfaction after a few days of doing this.
Spear ThrowingBasic Level 1The power to aim and throw a spear like the first hunters.
A true hunter doesn't care what type of spear he uses but as long as there is prey your spears will fly towards them.
+3% Accuracy when throwing a spear.
+4% Power behind the spear.
Chances rise to hit a vital location.
I just need to train now.
Still each batch of guards are around twenty drones and we hunt them every 4 hours when new ones appear in the same number. We started on the sixth day and with three rotations during the day, at 6 am, noon and 4 pm, we gathered about 120 robots in these two days. About 30 were too destroyed to use because they are result of those the knights killed so 90 ad enough to scavenge to make cooling systems.
It isn't easy for sure, these robots plating is tough.
The first time we hunted them on the wall, the snipers couldn't penetrate but after some adjustments to the snipers it could barely penetrate but the impact power grew more so ripping the head of or breaking it off was easier.
Though I would love for the snipers to be one shotting them, it isn't so good like that.
The plates are really reinforced and the skeleton is just as good. At best the first shot would tip them off balance and they would die from three or four shots to the neck or head which is near their tolerance.
Most of the snipers employed spinning iron stakes so t does penetrate its just that this monster class steel is stronger than normal one probably die to the fact that it's made in payers of up to 7 times being folded over itself.
I could only calm myself because golems only exist with the clockwork. Truthfully we are only missing the wind elemental, the Sylph.
As you can probably tell, they are beings made of air so it's not like we can see them. I looked around the forum and put a post called "the Wind elemental Sylph, anyone know where to find them."
My answer
"Sylph players or NPC, if its NPC then you're in for a rough life trying to find them."
"Yeah, like he said, all Sylph players appeared either in windy badlands that were once grasslands or in the desert."
I smiled after seeing that reply. If I was lucky they would be attracted by Brocks whale body.
Well, not being able to do anything about the elementals i focus mostly on my work at this moment.
My part was designing all the cooling systems for the knights who i had to equip quick so we could do large scale raids as well as repairing a number of broken knights we had stored.
To say my control of robot's was top notch isn’t an understatement. Besides the Queen transmitter i got when i from the first dungeon i have built an array similar to her own which is why i can control such a huge number of robot's.
I would say that my control ability is nearly on par with the dungeon bosses.
On the start of the final week of the first month here, four transport ships arrived from South gate city.
The ships had various essentials we were in need of. As ironic as it sounds especially being right next to this scrapyard, we were low on metal.
As you can guess, with a certain dungeon right at the gate we can exactly go in and grab a huge amount. What we could get were some scraps from inside the walls which are still being cleared so we can build a dock for ships to unload better.
The shipment also brought with it two mechanic clockwork which was a good help. Problem was that one was actually a hardy bastard that didn’t want to take orders.
Put simply, he was an asshole player who volunteered to get a free ride to a high leveled zone.
Since he didn’t want to work i warned everyone through a quick message and everyone quickly got his face marked.
As for the other one, he was an NPC picked out by Gaia herself to come help out.
So, i had her, yep a girl, go work on some of the current broken knights. I also passed her how the cooling systems were built and to leave coding to me.
In one of the boats were parts for robot's to upgrade as well as parts for smithes. Once again, most things are usually built with the stuff we find around here but obviously we don’t have enough.
Gaia took the chance to escape and came with Rust taking care of the rest but that was for a specific reason since i asked her, through Delta, to come.
I brought her into my workshop and showed her our little treasure we found.
“Oh my! This...where did you find him?” She asked gasping.
”Inside the scrapyard walls just before reaching the stairs between floor 1 and 2. The arm was broken but because it's different we could find it rather easily.” I replied and pulled out the arm that was behind him.
She took it and scanned it and did everything i would do to check the condition of a robot.
“Can you get him online at least?” She asked before looking at me.
”Brain was mostly undamaged, just aged, most damage was rusting and the broken arm. I am interested in taking him apart to study that engine though.” I said without holding back. I really was, to get my hands on an electric engine, it would be great in this place where overheating was a serious problem.
“The engine seems old but it looks like it will run. Mind jumpstarting him, he needs a charge to start up unlike regular clockwork.” Gaia said.
I shrugged and nodded. She looked around the back before lifting a small rusted lid on his back on the same height that the engine would be.
The plug was similar to the tanks. It was made to be jumpstarted by a welding tool.
I pull mine out and stick it in and send a small pulse which run its course and reaches the engine which at once starts up making a lot of noise.
“Damn, that thing is old. Get some oil there is a small opening to add it in.” Gaia ordered which pissed me off a bit but quickly pulling out a can of diesel which she poured into the opening in the engine.
Slowly the noisy rattling and screeches of rusted metal softened. Another can was emptied into the tank that would take oil around the body which was another thing that was creaking like crazy.
When it was done we simply waiting for the batteries to charge and after 10 minutes the eyes finally turned one but kept blinking which meant there was damage to the eyes or at least the lights that made them up.
“Where...am...I” A rough voice came from the rusted voice box.
“Greetings Venus, long time no see.” Gaia said with a tone that showed she knew the individual.
The head of the clockwork rose slowly while creaking and looked up at Gaia.
“G...1...A...1? Pro...to...type...model...one?” He said slowly or was it a she.
“Seems the voice box is trashed, but i guess the lack of power is also taking its toll. Techno you have any spare voice boxes?” she asked.
”Storeage room, enter the room, turn left on the second book shelf from the door, third row the bottom.” i replied and pointed to the door.
“Ok, can you remove his voice box I’ll grab a better one.” She said.
I did as she asked since i was curious about the assassin.
He couldn’t resist when i pushed his head back making his body tilt back.
Lifting his head willingly and i unbolted the rusted plates around his neck and removed the voice box.
Gaia handed me the new one and i stuck it in.
All the parts i have are repaired and tested so i know these will work perfectly and not shutter. Like any other voice box, they adjust to each code and send out a specific type of voice. Like my own voice is the same one i have in real life and if i switch my voice box for Gaia’s it i will continue being the same voice.
It didn’t take me more than five minutes to remove, disconnect the old one and install the new one and bolt it into place and reattach the neck plate.
”Done” I said getting up and letting my weight drop into my seat i use to make small parts in my spare time or when i need an important part.
“Ah~~! Hello, test *cough* thank you mechanic.” A deep voice came from the robot's rusty moving jaws.
So his mouth was multi sectioned like my own and Nova’s so he could make expressions.
“So Venus, how in Delta’s name did you get stuck inside the walls of this shit hole?” Gaia said cutting into his voice tests.
“Hump, the same pompous little brat i see.” He said.
”You don’t know the half of it” I said to both which made a laugh come from him. ”Your older then her?” I asked curiously.
“Yes, i was built around 6 years before G1A1 was first built as a worker model. She quickly grew through the ranks as a swordswoman which gave her the opportunity to be the prototype model for the synthoid race.” He explained.
“Stop calling me by that code name, it's annoying. Call me Gaia already.” She said obviously annoyed.
“Ok, or should i call you by your old name?” He said with a grin but sudden flash and Gaia appearing face to face instantly shut him up.
“I would prefer not to. You are currently in a scraped state so don’t push it.” She said making Venus nod as fast as his rusty body would allow.
“So start talking, how did you get stuck inside the walls and not thrown in the middle of the junkyard?” Gaia said.
“I was online when i was brought here by the humans. They used a wide range EMP which took down many of the ships but since they weren’t ready it took many of their ships as well. I had a back up start up so when i was nearing this area i turned on and could begin trying to escape but once i entered the walls to find a way up the wall a wave of our brethren fell through and caught me by surprise. My arm, as you can see, broke off and soon my systems shut off since i couldn’t move and a leaking battery which i must thank you for replacing.” He said. “So? How long was i out?” He asked.
“One thousand years have passed.” She said in a deadpan tone.
A silence overtook the room before he started to laugh.
“No seriously how long?” He said through his laughter.
“one thousand or i guess now, one thousand years and nine months.” She said again in a deadpan tone.
This time the assassin began to shake.
“So...what happened to the war?” He asked with a shaky voice.
“No one won, everyone lost. The war brought ruin to our world. But like the prophets say, the Awakened showed up and have been helping restore our world. The one over there is the best one in our nation.” She said while doing pointing towards me with her thumb pointed backwards over her shoulder.
I was really sure that if he was human, he would be sweating buckets and would be near tears.
I was kind of worried about the humans when he sees them.
”Gaia, I’m worried this idiot will do something stupid to the humans. Unlike many of the workers we revive he still has memories intact.” I told only Gaia.
”Yeah, i have the same feelings as you. He was one of the big figures of the war since he could get in deep without being noticed and killed the heads. He saw many friends die to humans so i am really worried.” She said to me.
“Don’t worry about me in regards to humans...I...kind of guessed...the relationship would change.” He said which surprised me but Gaia just sighed.
“Don’t go hacking the conversation of others ok. I’m going to leave next week. By then i will see to repairing you to at least working conditions. When we get back to south gate city we can put you up to 50% once we get there.” She said.
He looked up and tilted his head.
“Only 50?” He said in a confused tone.
“What? Did you think we had stealth tech, also your weapons are rusted to uselessness. It will be studied by this fool behind me so he can rebuild it and maybe even upgrade it.” she said mocking me.
”Don’t call me a fool when you are worse, QUEEN Gaia, the “grand” ruler who runs from work when she gets a chance.” I replied in an even more sarcastic tone.
Suddenly laughter came from the assassin.
“Him? UPGRADE my tech!! AHAHAHA! I HAD THE BEST MECHANICS DEVELOP THAT STUFF DURING OUR TIME!!” He shouted.
I thoroughly pissed me off. Because of it i stood up and took the air.
I had some scans to learn how it was done since the identify showed these facts.
It was some marvelous tech for sure and it fit all too perfectly with the ball turrets that Nova created but what was better is that with this tech i could finally piece together how i could get small drones to interlock together.
All the pieces in his hand were loved too electric hinges which used electromagnets to repel and attract. It had the hand, sword and gun configuration which, after attaching to my own system i could activate myself. The two simply watched and with the sudden movement of drones i began to bring out the tool drones which held many parts i needed.
Very rapidly the robot's began to build five small drones which had many small scale like plates and many parts to it. They all ran on a small batteries used for clocks with the clockwork gears recharging with mechanical energy being converted back to electricity.
It was completed in 20 minutes and they quickly started working.
I then numbered each and put them in a line and they all walked forward until they were all touching. Finally i activated their connection sequence and it began. One by one they connected with the scale like plates moving out being held by two small hinges while the wires and other parts spread out and attached to the next one in line. When they all finished the plates came in and covered the outside making a scaled dagger just right for an assassin class.
Scaled Five layer DaggerA dagger made by five connection drones made to link up and turned into a dagger which had many saw like scale plates meant to do extra damage when passing through living creatures.
This dagger sports a 50 cm long blade with a fine edge made by five long pieces of connected steel plates placed just right to make the sharp edge and behind protective scales that will cause excruciating pain as it saws its way through the body leavy a far from clean cut.
Durability: 100/100
Attack: 30-50
Effects: To living creatures can cause massive bleeding effect
Requirement job: Rogue, Scout
I confirm the stats and fling it right in between his legs and it stuck onto the ground with the point stuck in the wood floor.
Gaia crouched and looked at it without much surprise since she knew i had mechanical ingenuity. The assassin on the other hand, was completely blown away.
His hands didn’t work but the scanner he had was on full blast trying to gather as much information as that half destroyed piece of junk could.
“This...is...impossible. HOW DID YOU FIGURE OUT THAT TECHNOLOGY SO QUICKLY!!!” He shouted.
”It’s much simply then it looks. The hand has three preset configurations, Hand, Dagger, Gun. All the pieces needed is in the hand and from the elbow down. To change shape the outer plates are made into small sections which can reconfigure themselves by using the predetermined shape. Lastly the plates are all attached to thin hinges like a door which allow it to take a different position if the configuration allows it. That weapon has two forms, the five drones or the dagger.” I finished saying and sat down.
It really wasn’t AS hard as he implies. That said, if i wasn’t doing extensive studies on mechanics i might have missed it as well. It’s not amateur level stuff but it's not some master level tech either. If i had to say it straight, Nova’s turret’s brought me more trouble to improve then this.
Well, after that he showed me a lot more respect unlike before when he saw me as some newbie.
"So it's only a week you are sticking around?" I asked Gaia.
"Yes, I got that much time off since there aren't many meetings and work seems to be running smoothly. Also since you asked to come Rust organised everything to open up a two week space for me." She replied.
I nod and search through my bank of blueprints and pull up the management unit and send a request to upload it to her.
"What's this?" She asked the the notification appeared.
"Management Unit blueprints" i replied and her eyes shined brightly and in no less than a second the button was pressed and it began downloaded.
Don't blame her, to get a proper class to do management wasn't something to pass up. Also i wouldn't benefit keeping the plans to myself because this unit is best used in governing so it's best to give to those who can use it best since the towns will develop better with a proper unit leading it.
Still, when she saw it she frowned a bit.
"This looks like a pompous noblemen." Was what she said when she saw it.
"Outer look is less important but it's not a management unit if it is armed to the teeth. Most important part is this." I replied and guided her view to the brain. The body vanished and only the brain was left which show a rather complex setup of processors that has at least twice as many as any other model.
"Woah" she said in a surprised tone. "Yeah i get it. I think upgrading Rusts processors should be easy. He will probably not like having the rifles removed but he has his shotguns which don't register as part of his body and should work similar to the cane." She said and closed the plans.
"Now, how long would it take to repair his body?" She asked pointing at the assassin.
"With all the gear?" I asked.
Gaia nods and i look at the assassin on the ground.
Taking into account how his body was built i won't even need to build much.
I pulled out something i had built during the Beta testing.
In front of me was my attempt to build a body like Gaia's. It was made to be a synthoid but if i change a few things i can transform it into an assassin class body because they are extremely similar.
"One maybe two weeks. I will be researching all his gear including the stealth tech and at best i can put his engine in within the week but i doubt the stealth will be done any sooner. If you would like, we can stick him into one of my worker class robots until i refit this to be his new body." i said.
"And what’s in it for you?" Venus finally asked.
"I will be learning how to make an assassin class robot as well as stealth tech and electric motors, in this hot hell hole we are in the electric motor will be essential to both keep us from overheating as well as being developed into a generator that moves on its own energy and even produces more. That is enough for me." i replied in a deadpan tone to which he nods a bit.
"Alright, I'm fine with that. Can you at least change that body to something more rust resistant?" He asked.
I looked at him before nodding.
With that we sealed the deal and shut him off before putting him into one of my steel body workers. It wasn't anything close to what he had but he didn't complain. It was more then obvious that he should still be thanking me more for not just throwing away his motherboard.
He leaves and goes stay with Gaia on her ship during the day and comes out to help construction during the early and late hours.
The rest of the week i spent my time personally examining the engine while i set the robots to make the body out of earth steel. i left the arm for last since i needed to build that by hand to get the shifting tech just right so that it maintained the hand, gun and sword forms.
The last thing made was the engine which was very tiresome. It was much more complex than it looked for sure.
I took a whole day just to scan it inside and out and then work out the order it is built in. Then came building it.
Eventually i accomplished it though so it was all right.
On the day before they would leave the came and we put him in the new body to which he tested his systems.
"Not bad, the structure of the gears is weaker than my original but this is much better than was promised. Hmm, the status if this body equal about 60% my status." He said which started me greatly.
I quickly turn to his body and lift it and attach it to one of my stands and remove his chest plate. I then examined scanning the body greatly.
Rapidly the structure of the gears began to appear in the plans of the body and once it was done it all changed the stats of the body to steel which is what was used before.
As soon as i saw the stats of the body i could only laugh dryly. This man is as much a monster as Gaia is.
The stats of this body is four times stronger than Asura's current stats.
That means the body i made to be a synthoid is also just as crazy.
I'm seriously loving this class already.
When i get the stealth tech up i will send one to him and then make some for my own robots who will start and assault on the dungeon using them.
Things are looking up really nicely.
On the last day i look into the stealth but since it was almost time to logout i simply set my robots to guard the place and logged off.
