《Clockwork》Volume 3 Chapter 7 Core Tech Animals

Urg...my five days in VR town sucked. The therapy was, thankfully, normal like you see in movies. Ask questions, how I feel, something else, bla bla bla. After that was working to meet Sasha's demands. Since we have been busy, we haven't played together so for all the days I have been dragged around going to the parks and malls with her.
Not like that got her off of doing homework. Even in Etheria I don't let her off.
Anyway we spent a day with mom and dad before things go quiet again.
Rather uneventful five days but it was good to spend time with Nova. This last month was rather busy so I haven't played much though the GMs do that a lot of the time. They are much better then Gaia at being proper role models.
Even the school that was fashioned inside Brock had lots of success.
I provided the books I use with Nova and even many others she has yet to touch so it would have a lot.
Annabeth became one of the best teachers, a hidden player that only shows her true self when teaching.
Greer has been with the knights.
She gained a power suit so her strength was being boosted.
She still trains without but most of times on since it’s dangerous.
Anyway when we returned to the game I found a small village already up. The scraps around the gate have been cleared up to 150 meters in radius already and all, protectors and knights have been brought back to life already.
There was still a lot being made but now there was a proper governors house, several smithy workshops and a few other buildings such as alchemists, tinker, weapon/armor/parts shop, and so on.
We would need to clear at least 300 meters to get a good size to make the walls.
Outside the walls was a half grown forest with several paths in it. From far I could see several fights between the fish mutants and the knights going on.
I rush in and help them clear them out.
Unlike what we did at the start, we now start butchering them.
The meat is worthless because it’s naturally contaminated but a few organs have medical properties. What we do with the rest is feed them to the fishes, literally.
We toss the bodies into the river. This has greatly calmed the under water fish and has made them hunt the plaguing fishmen and even each other.
Slowly it’s being put under control.
I approach the water and scan it to get the content readings.
At least 25% of the pollution has already been cleared. This is most likely the result of cleaning the springs.
Even now we are searching for the rest and from the report I just gained from the knights. Two more were found two days ago. The elves have begun to restore them.
Along with their report there was also a result of the effects on the lizardmen.
Its seems they are getting weaker due to the cleaner water. From the looks of it, the creatures that took to land had weaker bodies if the ecosystem begins changing. Only the strong ones and those that adapt fast will survive.
I give the order to try and gain some eggs from both monsters. Take them upstream closer to the clean springs and have them hatch near them. If we constantly make them hatch in clean water they will adapt. Its not good to kill of a native species even I know that much.
On the ship I was taking the cores and attaching the tool arms. These tools were a group of things. First it had a small camera that worked to help see but it was very basic stuff, no color and so on, camera with color was in the clockwork egg. The arm had actual fingers so if the core removed itself from the body it could pull itself. It had a welder and cutter. Basic of the basic even compared to my own but it was enough.

I put the arm into the first core and see it light up.
The good part about these cores is that the motherboard makes its own power since it has a few small batteries in it. So it can move the arm around.
Next I take it to an empty shell that was its body and begin attaching the wires into the proper place until all systems are built. Yes the beeper is here too but this thing isn't a clockwork but something akin to an animal.
Each one was given a different code that had a hidden model behind it. Wolf, dog, cat, tiger you name it.
We found out a while back that the motherboards also process fuel from what it eats. It can use normal fuel or make it by "eating".
With this one made I deactivate it and make more of them.
I build each of them until all are complete.
Techno: 'Delta!'
Delta: "You call? Oh they are complete nice work. Could have gone quicker though."
Techno: "Shut it. I was busy and you know it. Now where should I drop them?"
Delta: "Anywhere, in the forest or in the scraps you choose they will grow by themselves. I am curious though how they will reproduce. Will it make a core for the offspring or will it split like a slime. I wonder of the slime people are still alive."
Techno: "Going off track geezer. Anyway how dangerous will they be to us?"
Delta: "I've set creatures like Bulls, horses and other domestic animals to see those from your nation as neutral. You are see as good because you made them. That can change by attacking but that will take time. The forms will be varied, I suggest leaving a day or two in the scrap yard under a watchful eye and then to the outside to tadt organic leaves and so one.
I nod and store them all in my inventory and took them outside.
I leave the ship and jump down into the scrap yard where many people were pulling and dragging scraps away.
I pull the clockwork eggs out one by one and activate them before dropping them.
Just so you know, their body is made of triple layered 5 mm steel plate. That means their best feature is the defense and I made sure they knew that by adding an automatic defense program.
They can't attack much yet but that doesn't matter because in the long run they will become completely different.
After a few seconds each of them open up and straighten themselves. The metal ribbon in the middle holding the cores held the camera as well as the arm. The core was free to turn but it wouldn't every fall out unless it activated the program for it.
They all turn and look at me before heading to the nearby scrap.
Getting near they start to grab and eat any piece they could pick up.
Because everyone was looking I connected to their coms and sent a message.
Techno: "These are prototype clockwork. DO NOT TOUCH!!"
The message was sent clearly as everyone nodded vigorously.
Anyway watching the thirty or so metal balls going around eating the metal it felt like I was a sheep shepard or was it just me.
Anyway as after a while of eating one of the eggs stopped and seem to enter a frozen state. I moved close and saw all the material it had gathered slowly gather at the edge.
If you have ever see a 3d printer or something of the kind it looked like that.

Slowly appearing near the only area that has no circuits, only the thin film was a metal piece. The hand had already grabbed it and bit by bit was pulling it as it was made.
It looked like a curved metal piece that I couldn't really figure out what use it had.
When the piece was finally done I turned to me and put the piece down.
I could tell it was telling me to hold it for it.
I stopped it from leaving and quickly drew a 1 on ot and progressed all the way to the last. Then I drew the number on each piece that was made.
I brought down robots to help me and with them we slowly ate our way into the scrap clearing a part.
It was actually rather impressive the speed they ate at. Since they had a battery and most they make a part of what they use they barely use it so they can just keep eating until they make their body.
Shame I can't make more, the problem is Brocks reluctance to give more mana crystals. Well, lets just see how these guys will breed and figure it out later.
Delta PoV
These robots are amazing. The basic codes they possessed before. Its growing bit by bit. With every new object they see, every piece of scrap they eat. Everything its getting accumulated and that data is making the codes grow.
Several have decipher the design and have begun growing towards that.
A few took about a day and will make a bit more chunky robot weaker and slower and after the first week all of them had a design.
Those who took longest will be the weakest creatures until they refine themselves a bit.
This is the first time I feel like I am the God of artificial beings.
What is missing from these creatures is the construct silver mana wires.
Normally it would take days to refine it or you get it from the dead carcass of another one.
I wonder if I make a few programs for this soon to be spider drone.
Silver string would be hard to come by but Techno can make good use of the small supply they have in that vein.
Yep lets do this. Still for him to be a synthoid he needs to go to their graveyard and get the destroyed body and build from that. There is no way the amount he has will be enough to make one but weapons don't need that much.
I wonder if the other gods are moving as freely as me. We were all sealed away after the human goddess went wild.
I fear for what will happen if she gets loose.
Techno PoV
After a week number 1 finally came to me and instead of holding a piece it started to hit my leg.
I took that as a sign that it wanted its parts so I pulled them all out and dropped it there.
It grammed piece by piece and spread it out before it began to build.
I set my video to record it.
I watch it for two days until it finished. What came out was a dog shaped robot. It was a dog because it lacked the feral look that follows a wolf.
Following its completion the egg opened a hatch on the chest just big enough for the core. The next moment the egg broke apart and released the core.
Yep it broke up like an egg.
I walked over and stored the two halves for the next one and watched as the little arm pulls the core and lifts it up into the chest cavity.
Inside I could hear the sounds of fiddling as it attached the components and with each click I could hear more of the gears start up.
The dog was as big as a Labrador. The core itself was twice as big as a normal humans hand but engine ones were about three times.
I had seen it building a steam engine for itself while it built the body. It stays where you would find the gut. As for weapons, fangs, claws. Yep animal stuff to the end.
Most of the body was made of gears so it looked just like a clockwork dog now. The steam pipe exhaust came out of the "fur" just above the legs. The fur was styled plating which I guess came from the design Delta made.
The pipes didn't actually appear and were hidden under so that it could act like a surprise if the dog wanted to use it as such.
After a bit everything that was off finally turned on including the eyes.
The new clockwork dog stood up and shook itself like a dog. The interlocked plate just slide along naturally as if it was real fur before settling down.
BARK!
It turned to me and barked while wagging its tail and letting its tail hang loose.
Delta: "Ahahah these guys are amazing. Check out its codes. It doesn't even come close to what it once was."
When I looked there was a mountain of code. You really can't compare the two. Its huge.
Before I was able to somewhat see a rough picture of the animal drawn in the code. This was how he made the codes. But now the codes were so extensive I had to zoom out until my view was white to see the detailed drawing of the dog.
Techno: "Hey HEY! What the hell is this. Not even a clockworks codes get this big!"
Delta: "I'm doubting it myself but this really is the code. It’s constantly growing and depending on the environment it will continue to change but it can get bigger. The cows and bulls are quite something I could say that these codes could be considered their soul. When the image in the code changes so will the body to match it."
Techno: ”Is this a robot or a living being?”
Delta: ”It's an animal. The AI formed into a dog AI with all complete features. Scanning the codes show that it can even breed. Or I guess split.”
Techno: ”What do you mean exactly and speak in layman's terms”
Delta: ”Lets put it like this. You know the elementals core splits right. Well its the same thing here. The center core will split then both cores will grow. The parent body will make a new infant body for the child and release it. The new core is smaller and will stay that size until it has a bigger body and it will use its infant body as nourishment to get bigger. It also needs to be done in pairs. Just like human DNA the main codes are its genetics so it will mix up both of similar robot's for the new child.”
Techno: ”What the hell! Did you make me act like god here! WHAT THE HELL!”
Delta: ”I think I did more than you since I made the basic’s of its soul you gave it the body.”
I could feel the stupid bucket of bolts laughing behind the text.
Anyway the dog just tilted its head and then it simply looked away and started to look for a few pieces of junk and chomped on it before curling up.
When I looked around I spotted several new robot's and the shells of the clockwork egg on the ground.
Another dog walked over and laid down next to the first one.
Looking around I spotted a deer and doe in one area, wolfs were digging a hole, scanners showed large horned rabbit robot's in a hole they dug out.
What was strange was further back. They looked less sleek as opposed to the others.
The robot's had animalish shape like a dog but it was more blocky.
The last ones were making machines instead of animals.
Delta: ”Before you ask, those with animal forms discovered the hidden image early on while those that are making machines found it a week later. As you can see the form changes depending how fast they discovered it. From now the codes stabilized but newborns can make lots of changes if they discover something better.”
Techno: ”These things will most likely become the backbone of technology.”
Delta: ”Hunting tech huh. Interesting but I feel that is far off. By the time the scrap yard is completely cleaned up the world will be restored and these guys will be in huge number and types.”
I could only look at the strange contraptions being built. It was clear the animals had an edge in the abilities but machines had technology. Not only that these are the first of their kind.
I kind of fear those bulls as well.
The rather impressive bulls bolstered power equal to what I made for bulk’s rhino form. I really doubt Delta would let them remain so few.
Anyway all the eggs had “hatched” so I gathered them up for later use. If needed I can make them quick shields.
If they were Earth steel they would be better but who is complaining.
Anyway I can easily approach them all so scanning and examining them was easy. Its scary how they made more than half these parts but for now we can’t touch them. Thankfully there are pairs for each robot so 15 types. 5 are exceptional animal bodies, 3 ok bodies, 2 look half way between machine and animal and 5 are machines.
With them examined and categorized and even all the parts checked to the point of making blueprints, yes I want to know how it's built, I lead them outside.
Delta says they take my orders well so I tell them they are permitted to eat a small bit of the plant life within a 100 meter radius of the gates, as well as make a den.
The rabbits quickly make a new hold as do the wolfs who go near the edge of the perimeter and do the same. The strange machines that look like a blocky upper body of a robot on a three gear wheel bike. The back wheel turned to turn which side it faced. It was really having trouble in this area. if I had to guess this thing would fit better in grasslands of flatlands.
Given time I bet it would adapt but for now it muscles its way through a few less grassy areas. The trees were already overhead while bushes and such were now appearing.
The herbivore races quickly began feeding on a few bushes but the rest just looked around. The machines did eat though.
Also if you are wondering the throat is connected the core which will drop the food in. Depending the animal the food is turned into biofuel.
I am really tempted to make a core for myself but for now I refrain. I want to test everything so after a while I have them all return into the scrap yard and tell them to not hurt anyone and not fear them but to defend themselves if attacked.
I warned everyone and told Fics about them.
After warning them all and having no more new cores due to a grumpy golem who, by the way, has grown to twice the size since we arrived thanks to leveling and mineral absorption, I go off and start constructing buildings.

8 168Musings of a Hypocrite
Mortals are weird. They insisted in unity, as well as individualism. More often than not, they're shocked at truth and honesty, but not at falsehood and deceit. They asked questions with multiple answers, and provided answers that begged other questions. They made things to break, they destroyed things to study, they researched things to recreate. Humans, Elves, Beastmen. All of them. Within these contradictions, a miracle might manifest. But this tended to work with a trial and error methodology. Most mortals never got the happy ending. This diary is my journey alongside a few students of mine. In simple terms - they learn, they grow, they fight. They'll journey through centuries of conflict, from the physical to the educational. They'll experience the cruelty and benelovence of all living-kind. They'll experience the consequences of their choices and the blessings of their rewards. They will grow to become useful to me, or die trying like all the others. As for you? The god reading our lives like a book, sitting in your chair without a care in the world? I will show you, the farce that is known as 'God'.
