《Clockwork》Volume 3 Chapter 6 East Gate City Month 1

It's been three weeks since we began cleaning.
We reached actual dirt earth last week and today the first builds were being made. These were smithy's for the dwarves and clockwork.
During these three weeks a lot of success and trouble has happened.
The first success was that through Nova's scanning we somewhat located a few possible places that held mineral.
Through Brock we confirmed iron, copper, tin, coal, quartz, silver and gold.
It was quite a nice area mineral wise. Now for the first success there is the first failure.
The forest outside is plagued by several monsters. This area is somewhat rocky but with dirt so it gives the feel of what could have once been a rainforest.
The river about 1.5 km away is 5 meter wide and holds the first plague.
Mutating from fish are ugly fish monsters that are both above and below water. They are highly territorial and carnivorous.
The second plague is down further inhabiting a lake. Mutating from lizards are distorted lizard men and several large lizard creatures.
When de first encountered them we were attacked aggressively so any exploration was done under the watchful eye of the squad of knights, that we found under the scrap and repaired making them our guard unit, that came with us lead be Asura.
Now for the second success. Because the lakes and rivers are somewhat far we had leeway near the walls and gate so the Gnomes and elves have been revitalizing the land and with golems helping they heal a bit of the land.
With the work done in three weeks small green shoots have begun to sprout.
We have pushed as far as possible and scouted quite a lot to find a safe area but most of the river is plagued.
We needed to clean this water so we have been slowly expanding the scan upriver.
Yesterday we found about 5 springs that make up the river.
Near these areas it was safe but the area like everywhere is polluted.
In all these spaces the area was revitalized and plants and tree sprouts were planted.
It would take a long time before the river is healed.
In south gate city the river had a large ship graveyard that filled a whole lake with oil and fuel. Even now it's been removed while the water is returned which has greatly improved the water quality and plant life along its edges.
The third thing that happened was when the dwarfs wanted to go mining.
Because we needed many materials like coal for good iron the dwarfs were persistent so Brock has been preparing and raising a small rocky hill to open the cave.
With this, Victor brought out his hidden invention.
His first attempt for a full armor suit turned into a bulky miners suit.
Made from ten large drones each of them attach to Victor's original armor.
They attached and connected making up the systems before they enclose all the circuits in a tight green colored steel plate. The chest space was very bulky because that is where the pilot stays. On the sides were strong arms making even mine look a bit weak and finally the right hand was a huge drill while the left one was a normal hand to grab.

The most interesting thing was that on the back of the feet was a black steel wheel. That would move below the feet when he needed it to.
In all this was his first suit. He made a seriously funny joke when he introduced it to use while getting ready to mine.
Victor: 'I would like to introduce you to my first suit. Both a battle suit and a miner. Mark 1 Bulkbuster "Mining model".'
Bulk: 'HEY MIDGET YOU WANT TO FIGHT HUH!!'
We laughed so much and you can't call him so small anymore because the robot makes him 190cm tall.

Still the suit was rather impressive because it was the first to implement a core engine. The Piston Core engine actually. Four to be exact. On the back was the exhaust for each. The reason was because the drill needed its own engine and each wheel on the feet as well. The last was the main bodies.
The strong but small engine was very appealing for sure. It opens up a lot of room and opportunity.
Not to mention that it makes for a lot of great attack options.
The wheels on the feet are really useful for charging at monsters and the drill is deadly without needing to tell us.
Made from 20 layers earth steel packed one on top of each other and then making the grooves of a drill on the top layers make this a sturdy weapon and took.
The mining speed is impressive as well. The speed is about a third faster than miner class clockwork.
Not like they aren't fast but comparing a dwarf with the same mining gear to a robot who is just smashing away there is little comparison.
Acting as the mining leader he lead the miner class clockwork and began digging out the coal mine.
He led at the front while the rest worked the space he left behind. The objective was to set up a main mine shaft so that they can then spread out.
Iron wasn’t a worry. The scrap had made a huge pile but the coal was definitely a problem. It is imperative that steel is obtained or else the blast furnace will not be made. The same goes for copper but that is obtained from the scraps as well.
With him mining it helped to get the first smithy up. The fire elementals were all fed well to produce cores so that we can make more fire steel for the smithy's. Using the blast turtle to set up the first it was made quickly as soon as coal began flowing in.
Under the management of Fics, who was growing smarter by the day as he learned more, the scraps were cleaned quicker, buildings were being raised faster and basic needs were started to get done.
As for me, what i did was split between Yasha and Asura. Asura was currently set as guard captain with bulk and nova. While Yasha remained on the ship doing my research into the cores

I still don’t have water cores to make mana core crystals but that is alright. What i want to do now was try and see if i can acquire one of the subclasses of magic somehow.
I think about it a lot and just as a random idea i grab a fire mana core crystal and crush it until its powder and get a new fire based core that has yet to absorb anything and drop the powder inside.
On contact the powder was drawn in and halfway down it was absorbed.
I continue putting more and more and the core at the middle started to change into a mana crystal but halfway through the bright red color turned deep red like the color of blood. It stayed that color until it was grown completely.
When i identified it the name was “Refined Fire Mana Core Crystal”. In other words i mixed them together and made it stronger.
There are two possibilities that i can’t really confirm at this moment. Either the capacity grew larger or the power of the mana grew stronger.
Still, i wonder what comes after refined. So to test it i crush this new one and do so again.
The result was more than shocking to say the least, “Lightning Mana Core Crystal”.
Yep i was wondering as well why it was lightning but the only thing that came to mind is that both are in every shape or form, Energy. It reminds me of the old cartoon where the people can control the four elements with martial arts and fire and lightning was linked instead of the fantasy magic system that makes lightning part of wind.
Its really confusing but who am i to complain.
So many great ideas come from having this. Research of these cores is really amazing. Maybe i can combine items i get like this new core with an engine when it's being assimilated and make an electric engine.
All the cores depend on what they absorb so its possible. For now though i think it's best to simply find out more.
Outside with Asura though it was just as exciting. The fishman monsters have been attacking regularly whenever the elves use magic to revitalize the land or when the gnomes use magic to make the plants grow faster.
Because of this all the combat people have been getting a nice workout.
These monsters are around level 110 so it wasn’t impossible to fight especially when i have taken it up to repair them myself. For a quest i don’t need to be picky. Completing it requires these guys and it's not like Gaia and Rust don’t already have a good amount of what i did to them. Still like hell i am giving them core tech. This stuff is some serious stuff so its begin guarded on the ship that is always armed for combat with robot's ready to fire.
Breeding the Undines have started thankfully. Besides just making the land near the springs get more plants to naturally clean the water, we set up a few machines this last week.
This week is when i log off for another therapy session which i really hope isn’t like last time and i get a few days of rest. We have set up small treatment machines in front of the springs that has been cleaning the pollution from the spring and depositing it on clean dirt before going into five small ponds that we dug out.
The dirt is clean because we dug out a lot of the surrounding dirt before we had brock absorb and release it clean of oil and pollution. This way the water remained naturally clean up to 80% and was drinkable.
This game the Undines a space to live and grow slowly as well as make her first followers.
Brock still being too small doesn’t help since he doesn’t have the space to make a reservoir for them.
Near the springs is where the elves focus most of their energy to make the trees spread out as much as possible. The more secure the springs are the better the water quality will get down stream as well as giving the opportunity for plants to grow since seeds can get washed up.
To help even more, Undine that live in the water give a kind of blessing to the water when it's being cared for and this helps life grow even in polluted water.
Even with just five of the possibly 20 or more springs that exist near here that feed this river and lake the water has started to greatly improve but with the change in water the monsters became even more aggressive.
Changes in the environment will result in that but if needed we can kill them off and let nature remake what was lose. Eventually they will start calming down and when they do maybe fishermen, or in this case, fisher hunters will become a job the villagers can live off.
Once i return from the VR town i plan on making my first clockwork eggs. I already have almost 30 cores ready all of which have variates of Delta’s codes. I have already built the tool gear they can use and learned how to attach it.
All that is left is to give them their body and see how they grow.

Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
