《Sir Crabby (Progression Litrpg)》Chapter 13 - Double the Fun

"For years they called me mad. Mad I say! Everyone rambling on about 'dangers' and 'feasibility.' But I'm ready to show them... they'll come crawling when they've realized their error. I've managed to find a biomancer who doesn't ask too many questions. I have gills now; I can breathe underwater. You can't use spells or equipment you see. It's too dangerous, too likely for the dungeon to notice and focus on them to the exclusion of everything else.
Fluid friction was my next concern. I focused on Water magic for five years, finally unlocking [Water Manipulation]. Hahaha! You see how it's all coming together? My blood? My blood I traded to a Nereid; a water fey. I got a good price for it. She replaced it with ichor and suppressed my ambient electrical field. I can't regulate my temperature now, but sacrifices you know? The next five years after [Water Manipulation], I spent toughening my body. Armor would slow me down even more down there; my hands and feet can be my only weapons.
I am ready."
--Lurik Benselsik, Water Mage. Interview with Sea Folk Adventurer guild. Presumed suicide by Dungeon. AC 1148
Claws ready, I gingerly step through the illusion separating this room from the next. My [Natural Camouflage] must have had some effect because this time I have a split second to react before the [Dungeness Crab] swings at me. I [Coast] to the side and hug the wall; bringing [Earth Manipulation] online so that I can anchor myself to the ground. The crabs initial sprint had thrown it off balance, and I focus on its movements; estimating the time I have before the second rush.
I never see the other one drop from the ceiling.
It's impact slams me to the ground. Panicking, I overcompensate, scrambling to get to my feet. As I gather my legs underneath me I jump, trying to get away from the claws raining blows on my carapace.

My leap dislodges the crab as I'm tossed up into the water, swimmerets engaging as I try to gain my bearings. I align myself horizontally just in time to see the crab who I had thrown off rushing from below. I raise my claw to strike...
Wait... where is the first one?
*crash*
*crack*
Roaring pain chases any thought from my mind as the first crab impacts my side. While I was engaged with the ambushing crab it had crawled to the ceiling and employed the same strategy as the second. It didn't aim for my carapace; the strongest part of my shell. No, when it swam from the ceiling, it slammed into the side of my body, ripping free one of my right legs.
It's impact wrenches me more than 45 degrees from the parallel as a cloud of blood squirts into the water. In a state of shock, I idly notice my leg slowly drifting to the floor; white meat stark and apparent from the severed chitin.
My awareness jerks back to the present just before the second crab impacts. I stare into it's beady eyes, features full of rage and malice. I scramble to dodge but I'm not quick enough; my movement too slow being suspended in water. The only response I have time for is crossing my claws in front of me to absorb the impact.
*crack*
It slams into me and rebounds, it's momentum propelling it towards the ground as I'm flung upwards to the ceiling.
*crack*
My head hits the unyielding rock and stars dance in my vision. I slowly drift down, dazed and confused; blood leaking from a dozen different places in my shell. I manage to reach a modicum of awareness to see the two of them rushing side by side, swimming towards me with claws extended. I try to summon a response, but my mind is sluggish as my body fails to respond. They close in; and just before the strike, I find my body completely yanked to the side, out of my control, slung down to the ground and back towards the entrance.

I ride the momentum of the sudden change in direction and orientation as I hit the ground, letting my body bounce and slide towards the opening. Idly, a portion of my mind remembers the [Luck of the Crab] - 'Once per day, [Dodge] attack that would cause your death.'
The pair of crabs, unable to quickly slow and stop, hit the ceiling as well. The sharp *crack* of their impact a minor solace as they start to recover. Summoning as much strength as I can, I drag my broken and beaten form to the wall. I pass through the illusion to the first room, praying they won't follow.

I cross the threshold to the previous room as the [System] blares messages at me.
Collapsing on the ground, I manage to slur, "Yesh, yeah, I... I got..it," my voice weakening by the second. It takes all of my willpower and my full focus to activate [Earth Manipulation]. A black halo crowds in the corners of my sight as I apply a layer of sand to the open wound. The dimming light is banished by a haze of red; searing pain focusing my thoughts. I hold pressure, hold the skill in place as I'm torn between black and red. For what feels to be an eternity I'm held there, a lone broken crab in a dungeon; until a new message appears.

As I see the first health point rise, I slowly release the hold I have over the skill; fully prepared to reengage if need be. With shaking trepidation, I gingerly release the sand I've used to apply pressure. As the red fog of pain diminishes, the black halo returns as I struggle to stay awake. I need to watch my status, make sure I don't start bleeding again. Soon, the only solace I have left is banished as pain and exhaustion steal my awareness.

The Programmer's Dungeon [Progression, LitRPG]
Vincent, a college student from Earth, has been transported to another world full of strange powers and fantastic monsters. Ideally, this would be the start of his journey to become a legendary hero, build an everlasting empire, and gather a personal harem. But no one said that this new world would be easy… After escaping an assassination that accidentally befell him, he was forced to become a Dungeon Master. What will an average programmer student do when he finds out that he can code the dungeon? Vanquish those savages above with his tech and savviness — along with an army of golems? “Wait, this world isn’t even medieval?!” With all the questions piling up in his head, Vincent is set to uncover all these secrets! And… conquer the world, perhaps? The hard reboot of “The Programmer’s Dungeon.” It has an almost completely different plot, cast, and storyline, so expect tons of improvement from the old one. Disclaimer: This is a softcore LitRPG story; there are stats but no levels. Also, the LitRPG element isn’t the main focus of the story itself and is more of a support. I have enabled the reader’s suggestion, and therefore, you can correct any grammar mistakes and typos you find in the story. There will definitely be some that I miss. Cheers! The cover was made by Jack0fheart, so a shout-out for him. Releasing 3 chapters per week at 12.00 GMT on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday with at least 2000+ words. Deathless Towers
Transformed & Leveled up! Check for Deathless Dungeoneers. If you enjoyed the first incarnation of this story, you will most likely enjoy its successor more. This story wasn't going the way I wanted, there were too many things wrong about it, and so I gave up that ghost and started over from scratch, keeping only the Cuttlefish of psionic doom, and the magic system. This fiction is no longer supported. Climb. Kill. Become Deathless. Rhen yearns for the magic to save his home realm from the devastating Kavga invasion. To earn that power, he must first survive the trials of the Deathless Guardian. Paired with a psionic cuttlefish from another realm, Rhen must cultivate his spirit to tame magic he’s only dreamed of and conquer his tower to ascend from an expendable recruit. But it’s not just Rhen and his psi-pal looking to join the Deathless guild, and their rivals will stop at nothing to secure a position. If they fail to defeat their tower in time, Rhen will be sent home, dishonored and powerless. Reincarnated As A Benevolent Tyrant
NOTICE: This story is under rewrite. New novel has been published. Search **RE: Tyranny** in Royalroad for the new novel.Link- Re: Tyranny Thank You! ------------------------ "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." What a brilliant line, isn't it? James was a boy who had nothing to worry about. A happy family, a nice childhood. What's more to ask? But one day, everything changed. He lost everything in the blink of an eye. The only thing left for him were the memories and dreams of the past. Trying to cope up with the loss, he cut all ties with the outside world and became a shut-in, having no one left to call his own or to rely upon. There was nothing left for him in this world, but still he lived and soon found a purpose in his life, which lead him to create something that could change the world. And on the very day when his dream project was about to come to the light, he lost his life, trying to save a little girl from an unfortunate accident. "Will I ever be remembered...? I wish... someone would." These were the last word James mumbled before his conscious faded into darkness. But his life didn't end there, as he is transmigrated into the body of an arrogant, worthless Duke's son in some unknown land with no memories about who is or any idea about where he is. In an era of political turmoil and civil strife, the Duke's son is forced to prove his worth for inheriting the title. Will he be able to accept the new reality and prove himself by leading this country into a prosperous future? Or will he cease to the pressure of his past and lose everything once more? Disclaimer: This is not a power-fantasy or a 'feel-good' story. If you feel a protagonist should never lack agency (especially in early story) or make compromises because of difficult circumstances, then this fiction is probably not for you. It is a story that delves deep into real world sociological/psychological subjects and explores many topics of gray morality. I wrote it because I like stories that make me think more about the world around us, not to detach myself from reality. Some aspects you can expect based on the tags include:- [Kingdom Building]: political drama, geopolitical/geoeconomic strategy- [Army Building]: massive battles featuring in-depth planning, combined arms, and operational logistics- [Identity Crisis]: someone translated into a whole different world having to rebuild their identity and life aims The story starts off slowly, more like a slice of life than action-adventure, but I guarantee you it will get there. For those who want to skip the slow part, start from Chapter - 35 (Beginning of The End) (The whole Disclaimer section is copied from Aorii as I am too busy writing the complete story.) And yes, just for General Knowledge, James will become OP throughout the story. He is not some legendary guy who will pull out Excalibur & conquer the entire world. Update Schedule - One chapter a day. This novel is also available on Scribble Hub. And again, I humbly thank you for reading it. I hope you stick throughout the journey.
