《Colossus' Dream》(39) Imprisonment.

POV Narrator

On the grassy plains, stretching as far as the eye can see, the ruins of an ancient mountain, lie in eternal damnation. Next, to this once mighty entity, a city sleeps. A city, once bustling with activity and laughter; housing the lives of its fortunate inhabitants, now lies empty and deserted.

Beyond the borders of the city, the grassy plains continue unperturbed. The plains’ countenance, still bears the signs of a battle, of colossal proportions, that once took place upon it. A battlefield, akin to a meteor shower, showing signs of recovery. Large holes and uneven hills, covered in grass, litter the landscape; like the battle scars of a grizzled war veteran.

In the middle of the plains, next to the crumbled mountain, the Colossus looms. Its large eyes radiate intense focus, as it concentrates on the task at hand. The Colossus seems unfazed, despite being stuck, over five hundred meters into the ground for a whole year

Close to the Colossus, a hill like structure stands. Reaching several hundred meters tall, its size is only dwarfed by the Colossus next to it. This structure, seems unnatural in its creation; too smooth, to be natural, but large enough for Man to hold no claim over it. A strange mystery, to any uninformed bystanders.

“Zohn, after months of arduous labour, the battle is finally over.” The Colossus’ stomach, bellows in content. Its mouth releases a deep laugh, as a large smile festers on its moss-covered, granite face. On its shoulder, resting under the shade of a large oak tree, Zohn observes the Colossus’ ‘masterpiece’, as he releases a silent laugh.

“Are you finally content, Col?” Zohn asks a serene expression lingering on his face. “Absolutely!” the Colossus exclaims in triumph. “This past year, through our ceaseless efforts, we’ve collected all of that damned dust. This hill, made from the earth itself, will imprison the vile dust for ages.” The Colossus explains, its eyes gleaming with pride.

“Aren’t you afraid of it being destroyed, the whole thing is made from dirt that you threw together?” Zohn asks in amusement. “Impossible, besides, who would possibly want to free these vile creatures?” the Colossus quickly rebukes Zohn’s question.

“Now that this ‘important’ task is done, shall we continue our journey?” Zohn asks, changing the subject. “Yes, but let us wait until tomorrow. We’ve worked hard today, and some rest is in order.” The Colossus replies, its body taking a relaxed pose.

“How’s the forest doing?” the Colossus asks. Without giving Zohn a second to reply, it continues, “When you first showed it to me, I thought that it was merely extra weight that I had to carry, but this past year, it's really grown on me. Just look at Jeffery, over there.” The Colossus says, pointing to a seemingly random tree, in the forest on its back.

An endearing expression surfaces on the Colossus’ face, as it continues, “He’s such a kind fellow, always waving at me, with its green branches whenever I look at him.”. Zohn’s face morphs into a puzzled expression, as he looks to where the Colossus pointed at. “It’s clearly just a normal tree,” Zohn says to himself, but he decides to remain silent, unwilling to spoil the Colossus’ happiness.

“I’m glad you like it. It seems my thousand years of labour, was worth it.” Zohn sighs in content. “Tomorrow, where will we be going?” Zohn asks curious about their destination. “I have a rough idea, but we’ll only know, once the journey starts.” The Colossus answers mysteriously.

As the day progresses and sun gradually loses its shine, the calm winds begin to grow stronger. The once tranquil forest, on the Colossus’ back, begins to sway and shake. Without warning, the winds grow violent, almost ferocious. The forest shakes unceasingly, threatening to uproot itself. The Colossus’ eyes grow wide, as it stares at Jeffery. Without a moment of hesitance, the Colossus releases its Elemental essence; shielding Jeffery, and coincidently Zohn and the forest.

For an hour, the winds batter the landscape; uprooting the newly grown grass and wreaking havoc on the abandoned city. The Colossus looks unconcerned at the approaching winds, its body firmly rooted into the ground.

Another hour passes, the winds, have only grown stronger. Each second, the Colossus is battered by the winds, but he maintains a calm expression. As the hours pass, the Colossus’ calm expression begins to waver, but he remains unworried. His body still stands firmly rooted in the ground.

A day passes, and the winds have only grown stronger. Up in the sky, the sun shines with its usual radiance, uncaring about the world below. Zohn has already retreated into his home, fearing being suddenly blown off the Colossus’ shoulder. Suddenly, a large crack resounds throughout the sky, confirming the Colossus’ biggest fear.

His mighty prison, housing the most terrifying beings, has collapsed under the endless onslaught of the wind. Shock fills the Colossus’ entire body, as he shouts in anger, “No! How could this happen? My unbreakable hill has collapsed. Does the wind have no morals; don’t they realise what they’ve released to the world?!”.

Hearing the Colossus’ howl, Zohn quickly goes outside. Seeing the cause, Zohn silently laughs at the Colossus’ overdramatic nature. “Col, don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll capture them again after this wind passes,” Zohn says, trying to comfort the Colossus. A pained expression remains on the Colossus’ face, as he nods at Zohn’s reassuring words.

As if on cue, the Colossus, turns his head towards the horizon. There, countless floating islands, seem to be heading towards the Colossus, propelled by the Strong winds. “Just what is going on?” Zohn asks in bewilderment, as he observes the strange phenomena. Slowly, Zohn turns towards the Colossus and in a wavering voice, says, “Col, I don’t think this wind is going to stop.”.

Without waiting, Zohn rushes back towards his house. Quickly trying to prepare for the upcoming storm, fearing its course is heading towards them. Conversely, the Colossus’ eyes remain fixed on the Floating island. “If the islands can float, does that mean I can float?” The Colossus absentmindedly wonders.
