《Colossus' Dream》(12) Bonds.

POV Colossus: (When Zohn was collecting the things on the ground from his old home)
Do I deserve a friend? I’ve always been ostracized because of my tiny size. None of the other elementals acknowledged my existence. I've always been inferior, doomed to a life of loneliness and solitude. The elementals are gone and they've abandoned me to my own devices. I'll do everything I can for my first friend, then he'll hopefully never leave me.
Seeing Zohn gathering his things, preparing for his journey with me, makes me extremely happy for some reason. He's my companion, I’ll be sure to cherish him. He's willing to follow me on my journey, thus I must find a way to repay him. Some way I can return the favour for accepting me when no one else would.
I'm nervous around Zohn, I don't want to lose him. I must not mess this up, I don't want to be alone again. He's almost finished gathering everything up, and the sunlight is starting to fade away. It’s finally time for me and Zohn to have a proper discussion. I can’t wait, I'll play it cool, I don't want to scare him off.
I carefully lift Zohn, and all his items, from the ground and gently place them on my shoulder. He seems to enjoy his new house, I'm glad. I harden my face and prepare for our first proper conversation. I hope he likes me.
POV Zohn:
I carefully make my way close to the Colossus' head, making sure not to slip on the moss. I study the Colossus’ demeanour as I approach, he seems sombre. I wonder what's wrong? A silence builds between us, it’s growing unbearable. I should just talk first.
Who knows how long he slept, he's probably curious about the continent's geography. I'll start with that. Wait, I haven’t travelled in years, my information might be outdated, hopefully, he doesn’t mind. “This continent contains five kingdoms, and we are currently located near the fringes of the Boreal kingdom.” I start the conversation, startling the Colossus. I could almost see a small crack in his sombre demeanour.

"The other four kingdoms are located around the edges of the continent, near the ocean circling the continent. None of the kingdoms dares to settle near the continent's centre. They fear the massive, active volcano located at heart," I say, ending my small summary. The Colossus’s expression turns into a contemplative one; he’s probably digesting the information I’ve provided.
“This information is perfect, I know precisely where we are going first,” the Colossus says, his expression completely inverting. That's a drastic change in tone, weird... I have a bad premonition about his decision on our destination.
“I haven’t given you a ‘Thank you’ gift for agreeing to travel with me.” The Colossus says out of the blue, surprising me with his sudden change of topic. “If there's anything you desire and it's within my power, then I’ll give it to you.” He says, an expecting expression appearing on his face. I’ve gotten better at reading his face lately.
“Haven’t you already given me that beautiful house?” I ask, slightly taken aback by the Colossus’s thoughtfulness. “Pff, that small thing doesn’t count as a proper gift. Just say what you want, and I’ll grant it to you.” The Colossus asks again, seemingly getting more anxious as he waits for my answer. Can I ask for anything? I mean, if he’s the guardian of the spear, then I can’t just ask him for it. Or can I? There is only one way to find out. Besides, what can go wrong?
Nervously, I muster up my courage and ask, “Can you please bestow me the mighty spear? The one that you’ve been guarding for ages.”. The Colossus’ expression suddenly becomes strange, as if he's confused. Crap, I’ve crossed the line and asked for too much. He's probably furious. “What spear?” The Colossus abruptly asks, completely breaking me out of my previous stupor.

“The spear that’s located on your foot.” I hesitantly answer. Maybe, he’s testing me? “Since when has that been there?!” the Colossus exclaims in a surprised voice, looking down at the spear embedded in his foot. “Is this all that you want?” the Colossus asks in an uncertain tone. “Yes! If you can be so gracious as to grant that spear to me, then I swear to be your companion for the rest of time itself.” I quickly reply, my anticipation building. I don't have much longer to live and anyone willing to fulfil my lifelong obsession has earned everything I have to offer in repayment, including myself.
Carefully, with one of his giant, granite hands, the Colossus pulls the spear out of his foot. The spear looks like a toothpick compared to his enormous size. He gently lays the spear down in front of me, and for the first time, I can properly study my obsession. I can only theorise what the spear's made of. It’s still sharp despite being embedded inside granite for so many years. It’s truly the spear of my dreams.
I slowly bend over to pick the spear up, carefully trying not to scratch it. Not that I really could if I even wanted to. It’s heavier than I thought, weighing almost twice as much as any other spear this size. I swing it around a couple of time’s, adjusting myself to its weight. The world around me becomes a blur as I lose myself to this sensation. I finally hug the spear close to my chest, like a mother embracing her newborn. I look up at the Colossus with a uniquely grateful expression.
“I did mean it when I swore to be your companion for the rest of time itself, even if that may be inherently impossible,” I say, genuinely meaning every word I said. The Colossus’s expression becomes elated as if a large weight has been lifted from him. With my promise made, I shout out wholeheartedly, “We've made our pact and I have no regrets!”.
Thunder cracks in the cloudless, night sky. Out of nowhere, a notification appears in front of me. What the hell is this?
