《The Power of Formations》Chapter 17 - Maisy

“Hey there, you ok?” A friendly voice rang out. “You look disoriented.”
Emmet snapped out of his trance and turned his panicked head. “Ah?”
“Haha, no need to be so scared,” the voice laughed cheerfully. A pretty face entered into view, an older girl with jet black hair and wearing a plain purple robe, probably around eighteen or nineteen years old. She stepped in front of Emmet and leaned forward helpfully so that they were face to face. “What’s your name?”
“Uh… I’m Emmet,” Emmet stuttered out, unconsciously averting eye contact.
“Nice to meet you, Emmet,” the girl smiled, extending a hand out. “I’m Maisy. Do you need some directions? You look kind of lost.”
Emmet shook the girl’s hand and looked down a bit ashamedly. “Um, yeah… do you know where… um… the 3C dorm is? I’m a squire, and I sat in on a class with my student, but on the way back I lost him, and I’ve been trying to my way back for a while but...”
“3C?” The girl looked surprised. She glanced down at Emmet’s shy face and suddenly burst out into laughter. “That’s over five miles from here! Wow, you must have really gotten lost…”
“Fi-five miles?!” Emmet was shocked. He had really traveled that far? No wonder he couldn’t recognize anything!
“Haha, don’t worry!” The girl’s face was all smiles. “You’re in luck today. I’ve been developing a new build of my flying Gigorian-style vehicle all week, and just today, I finally completed it! This is the perfect opportunity to take a test run! Wanna take it for a whirl?”
“F-flying formations vehicle!” Emmet was thrown for a loop, staring at the eager girl with wide eyes. The girl had built a device that could allow people to travel through the sky?! And she would let him use it?

He looked down. “Ah… I… uh, I mean, I’m just a squire…”
“Ya little rascal, pretending to be shy!” Maisy patted Emmet on the shoulder and laughed out boisterously. “I know you want to. Come with me!”
------------------
The two walked through a field until they reached a small building, and inside that small building’s garage was a small intricate car, just big enough to hold two.
All around the car were various glowing tools, materials, and notebooks filled with scribbles. In one word, it was a mess. But Emmet didn’t care. With one look, he couldn’t help but feel that the scene was beautiful.
“Hehe, here it is!” Maisy giggled. “Aren’t you lucky, you get to be the first tester of my product! C’mon, get in!” She gestured invitingly toward the car.
“Um… ok,” Emmet hesitated for only a moment before stepping forward and crawling into the car. “J-just like this…?”
“Perfect!” Maisy gave a thumbs up, crawling into the car after him. As soon as all of their limbs had entered the car, Maisy patted the car once, and it suddenly lit up with bright multicolored lights!
VVvvmm…
A low comforting hum rose from the inside of the car, giving Emmet a relaxed feeling.
“Go!”
The car shot forward out of the open garage door and then soared into the sky!
“Whaa!!!” Emmet almost lost his grip and hugged tightly onto Maisy’s waist. However, given a moment, he marveled from the side. They really were in the sky! The device was flying!
Whoosh! The car soared forward, rapidly accelerating. Before long, the people on the ground turned into little ants, and the buildings turned into little models that the ants walked in and out of. The wind blew noisily around him, and both their hairs fluttered wildly in the breeze.

“Oh my gosh!!!” Emmet couldn’t help but exclaim. His grip on Maisy became even tighter. “We’re so high up!”
“Hahahahaha!!!” Maisy laughed heartily, casually patting Emmet on the head. “Yes, we are! You like it?” She couldn’t help but find that this little squire was cute.
“Y… yeah!” Emmet stuttered out, his eyes shining. “This is awesome!”
But it was over too soon. Within a few minutes, the sky car slowed and sank back down to the ground. When it touched back down to the earth, they were already in front of the familiar 3C dorm.
It was then that Emmet realized that he had been holding Maisy tightly and hurriedly stepped back. However, the car was small, so this caused him to fall backwards, rolling out of the car awkwardly and thumping his head on the ground. Rubbing his head and getting back up, he hurriedly made his body rigid and bowed consecutively, thanking Maisy profusely. “Thank you so much, senior Maisy! Thank you so much!”
“It’s no problem!” Maisy smiled, her face bright and sunny like a summer’s day. “You’re a cute little fella’! I’ll see you later! Next time, just call me big sis!” She sat back down into the car and gave a short wave before operating the car again. The car quickly soared back up into the sky and shot away just as quickly.
“Big sis Maisy…” Emmet mumbled to himself absentmindedly, staring out at the disappearing sky car. “That’s amazing…”
After standing there with a dazed expression for a few seconds, he snapped out of it and suddenly felt alright again, his loneliness swept away. Sure, he might not be so smart. But wasn’t being here enough? Everything here was so amazing - it was a privilege just to experience it first-hand! If he managed to gain anything out of this experience, that would be good enough!
He decided to himself that he would definitely accompany Tauruk in the rest of his classes. After seeing Maisy’s amazing creation, he suddenly felt motivated, and wouldn’t give up this quick! Even he was all alone here and couldn’t understand any of the material, some way, he could definitely achieve something!
He didn’t notice that around him, people were gaping amazedly toward him and at the sky car that was disappearing from view.

WARNING: THIS STORY HAS A SLOW START. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We all grew up hearing stories about heroes and villains, but what would we do if we were to be part of one? One night, a bioweapon escaped from its laboratory in Zalcien, only to die in a dark alley. One night, a young man lent a helping hand, only to die alone in the dark. One night, a deity of death saw two lost souls and offered one a second chance in the other's body. Now a strange creature made of darkness, James has to deal with his new form in a strange new world where superpowers, heroes and villains are commonplace, far away from his home. Watch as he learns how to use his powers, as he meets allies and enemies and how, when facing the paths of heroism and villainy, he chooses a third way somewhere in between. Follow the story of James, a lost Earthling soul, as he becomes Silhouette, the mysterious power in the shadows. Greetings fellow humans. This is my first story on Royal Road and my first long-term project written in English, so I do hope you will have some mercy in your heart when reading. So, as you may have understood, this is a story with super-heroes - which is quite ironic for my first story considering all of the other ones planned are fantasy - and as such will take place in a modern-like setting. Despite dark themes and gory scenes making their way into the story, it is still a super-hero world with the logic that matches, so expect characters to survive nuclear explosions without a scratch and yet to get defeated by a rubber ducky - as well as similar dark humor, thus the comedy part.

And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. I was present now, at this moment, at this point in time. I could feel the electrifying air saturating my lungs, the electrified ground vibrating at the rhythm of the approaching enemy. Then I took a step forward, everyone followed in tandem. Camilla the first, and then the others. Then I took a second step, and this time everyone followed simultaneously. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Then suddenly, everyone disappeared into motes of light particles that re-constructed itself hundreds of feet above the horde, dozens of miles away from our initial position. We were literally 'diving' into battle.-------------------------------------------------------------------Despite a rough childhood in the slums, Omari had everything a guy could want - a loving girlfriend, an understanding sister, a wonderful teacher, and his dream job.
