CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR

The end of one great battle and a sign of something worse

~

The two Volcanic Golems next to the one which was cursed

Were both fairly strong but still they didn’t look the worst

But they were standing guard while their more powerful ally

Slowly gathered mana from the dark and cloudy sky

Any moment it seemed it would unleash some awful force

And everybody knew they couldn’t let it take its course

And so they quickly implemented the plan Hawk had said

They’d close a portal right on top of old Kachanga’s head

Delilah and her husband, Log, were the first to begin

And joined hands to summon all the mana they had within

One grand attack aimed right had on of the weaker monsters

Leaving the second golem to Hawk and the others

They cast a spell they rarely used, one of pure energy

No skill or added discipline would be necessary

They simply fired together, all the mana that they could

Not sure it would be enough but hoping that it would

At the same time they attacked, Delilah, Hawk, and Belle

Were charging up a more specific sort of magic spell

Hawk was using her mana to create a hole in space

Where any normal matter would vanish without a trace

Belle surrounded it with electrical energies

And kicked the charged up void ball with all the strength in her knees

The two attacks contained the last of the team’s stamina

And when the dust settled, all that was left was Kachanga

The strongest golem didn’t even notice their attack

The explosion of its allies had just bounced right off its back

And as it raised its massive arms the ground began to shake

They worried that their sneak attack may have been a mistake

But in the chaos caused by all the mana in the air

Boulder snuck around the biggest floating portal there

He readied an attack and gave his shouted to his nearby son

“Come on Pebble, make a hole right here and run”

As ordered, Pebble punched the ground with magic in his fist

Knowing that they might all die if his attack had missed

But sure enough, beneath the golems feet a hole appeared

And for a moment it lost balance where the ground had cleared

Achievement: Dig It

Good job lad, attacks like that are very hard to aim

You knocked that golem into the portal from which it came

Keep expanding your experiences in this way

And you’ll be as reliable as your parents some day

It stumbled right toward the portal Boulder stood behind

And everybody hid behind the first thing they could find

the golem tripped half way through the portal quite clumsily

And Boulder punched the portal so hard it made him dizzy

The space around it cracked, which made a scary, awful sound

The shock made the air heavy and it shook the melted ground

But when the portal disappeared, they all heard Boulder laugh

The great Volcanic Golem had been quickly cut in half

Achievement: Space Breaker

You’ve closed a little portal once before, but this was grand

Destabilizing space is hard for gods to understand

Whatever magic power you’ve unleashed is beyond me

That technique will probably go down in history

The mountain-turned-volcano finally began to cool

And Hawk summoned some water to harden the lava pool

The team sat down together, all exhausted from the fight

And with the fires gone, one again the sky was dark as night

The portals’ eerie glow was a bit less bright than the moon

But it was probably still some time in the afternoon

Delilah was the first to speak after a moment’s rest

“Pebble did quite well for such a big important quest”

She smiled at Twig’s young friend but soon her mood was dark once more

“I hope that none of you forgot what we’re all out here for

Rest up quickly and get ready, this took far too long

I doubt we’ll find another mountain full of things this strong”

She stood up and she pulled her worn out husband to his feet

Still restless despite the Volcanic Golems’ defeat

Hawk was just about to tell the pair of them to wait

When suddenly appeared her husband in a panicked state
