[1] A Neidan should be similar to a Dantian . Nei=Inner, Dan=Pill/Ball . A ‘Neidan’ is actually a ‘real thing’ in the sense that it is similar to a Dantian . Since I cringe whenever someone translates Dantian as ‘Elixir Field’ or whatever, I just kept it Neidan as Neidan instead of translating it into something like Inner Pill . The Neidan is part of the school of thought that considers Heaven and Man as integral parts of a whole . Use the body as a cauldron and use your essence, spirit, and qi as medicinal ingredients . Use Heaven as the heat to refine the medicine inside the body into a pill (the Neidan) .

[2] A Yaowan is literally a ‘medicinal ball’ . The author tends to use the term alternately with medicinal pill (Yao Dan) . Sometimes he calls the same pill a Yao Wan in one sentence and then a Yao Dan in another . Henceforth I will probably just translate Yaowan as medicinal pill, same as Yao Dan . To be honest, outside of wuxia/xianxia/xuanhua, I think Yaowan is probably the more common term for a medicinal pill (but don’t quote me on that) .
