Wind Raccoon

A raccoon that has control over basic wind magic. It employs a hit-and-run tactic when it fights. Its meat is considered tasty. Rank F

Its rank is the same as mine, but its status is far inferior. Is it ‘cause I’m a dragon or is it ‘cause I own growth enhancers? Well, it doesn’t matter.

I was thinking of finding a monster to test out my new body, but this won’t even be a challenge at all. The raccoon is too weak to serve as a decent challenge. Maybe I should find a rank E monster to fight.

…Wait, wait! Hold that thought! What kinda thinking is that supposed to be? My memories aren’t crystal clear, after my rebirth, but I do know that I have never, ever participated in a fight in my previous life before. And I barely got out of my first battle by the skin of my teeth.

I know that fighting could literally become a daily thing for me, now that I was reborn as a dragon. That random kobold encounter is evidence for the possibility, at least. I need experience. Fighting experience to be more exact.

I did some reflecting after the kobold fight and I found my whole performance terrible. I tunnel vision on a single target, celebrated before winning, panicked after getting hit once and nearly lost my life.

I had the tendency to panic when things went wrong on the stage, something that an Idol should not do. It was merely a dealbreaker back on earth but it’s now a matter of life and death, something I need to solve as soon as possible.

However, haste makes waste. My dancing teacher always said that a slow but steady training regimen is the only way to improve yourselves. Add some hard work and discipline into the plan and you will become su…successful.

…And that is exactly what I need to do for fighting too. Even if this raccoon isn’t the best opponent, it can still be useful as a training dummy.

Learn the basics. Redo and iron them into your body and mind. Learn to think under pressure. Learn to pressure enemies. My determination will pave my path to success!

Optimistically, this raccoon could help me out with my combat style, right? The raccoon uses a hit-and-run tactic, which is the same thing I tried during the kobold fight. Shoot magic from a distance and avoid any close-quarter confrontations. I think it would help me improve myself if I fight somebody using my preferred style.

Well, I could also just sneak attack and end it without the need to fight. My stealth skill is high enough. But I won’t learn much from that. I want to have a proper fight!

If things somehow go south, I could always use the most basic way to fight a mage. Rush him down before he can cast any spells. With my new [Enhanced Claws] skill, while using [Haste], it should be easy to end this fight in a pinch.

Yeah, I have a plan B, so enough being nervous. I exit my hiding spot and slowly approached the raccoon without trying to agitate it.

“Kraaa!”

A cry for a fight. It might be unnecessary, but it was my way to let out all this pent-up anxiousness and excitement inside me.

“Kurerere?!”

I got its attention now. Good, first I should start this fight by channeling a [Firebolt] and test it out first. It will most likely evade it, so I can [Earth Wall] to block the way it dodges, no, I should do it twice on both sides. It’s safer that way. After that I’ll hit it with another [Firebolt] and end the fight from there.

Yeah, that sounds like I planned. That should work. Let’s go!

…Where did it go? Where is it?! Verdammt! I forgot to check [Enhanced Enemy Sense] when I was monologuing.

…it ran away…

Oh neeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiin! Fuck!

Haste, verdammt noch mal!

I can’t believe I let it run away!

I should be able to catch up to it with the [Haste] speed boost. The distance to the signal is closing, but I need to speed up even more. It ran quite far away for the little time it had. Argh, don’t think you can slip away from me!

No matter how adept the raccoon is at fleeing, it can’t outrun me when I have both a higher Agility stat and [Haste] speeding my body up. The odds are against it. While closing into range for my attack, I noticed the air swirling. A pocket of air shot right at me, but with the [Haste] buff and [Evasion Lv. 1], I narrowly evaded it with a slight cut on my cheek.

Although it didn’t hit me, it still delayed me. The distance loss is neglectable with our Agility difference, but if I keep messing up, it will get away for sure.

While closing in on it again, I used [Earth Strike] under its feet to trip it. With a decisive, mana covered claw attack to its neck, I ended its life.

Experience has reached multiple breaking points. [Young Dragon *] has risen from [Level 0] to [Level 4]

Attributes have increased due to level up

Acquired 400 skill points

This feeling in my hands. Seems like I’m getting used to it?

Sigh, that didn’t go as planned. Well, who would have known it would have run away? Not me~

I gotta reflect on this mistake *giggle*. It all went well, and the chase wasn’t bad, but I would have preferred if no mistakes had happened.

It looks like a surprise attack or sneak attack would have been the best way to take it down. I could do that next time, but nah. I’ll sneak when I have to, but I do need to fight once in a while to learn how to do it properly.

Rarrrrr. You face ME, the mighty dragon! Prepare for your defeat!

That is something I would not be able to do if I were only able to kill stuff by sneak attacks. I-I am not going actually do it, ok. It would be too embarrassing, but you get my point, right?

…Now that I think about it. If a dragon just appeared out of nowhere, wouldn’t I run away too? Why was I thinking that a monster would naturally challenge one another? A stupid expectation, I guess.

So, that leaves only one thing left to do. How should I prepare this raccoon?

“Kraah kraah kraaaah…cough.”

Ok, I can’t go higher than that. Oh jeez, does that mean I have to retrain my voice? I think I can still hit the notes, but with my reptilian voice, it sounds like scratching a blackboard. Do I really have to wait for [Humanize] to start singing again?

Tch, hmph. Looks like when I can turn back into a human, I’ll be super rusty. All that singing and dancing practice will go to waste! I guess realizing my dream will be tough in this world as well.

Sniff. Sniff.

Mhmm, that smell. Oh boy, will you look at this: [Seared Raccoon Meat with Herbs]

Seared Raccoon Meat with Herbs

Raccoon meat that was cooked over a flame. Seasoned by herbs, it gives off a delectable aroma

Doesn’t that sound amazing? And boy, does it smell amazing. Before I started preparing the meat, I was curious, if there was something in the surroundings that could act as a seasoning. I didn't want to stick with bland steak, after all. So, after some searching, I found a few stuff that could be used in cooking, and these are the ones I used on the raccoon meat.

Bloom Flower Petal

An aromatic petal from the [Bloom Flower]

Belzac Herb

A herb that possesses healing properties against wounds. Can also be used to alleviate head pains

Belzac Herb Seed

A seed from the Belzac Herb. It possesses a substance called capsaicin within it to ward off potential consumers

They did wonders to help make my meal, at least, smell better. Initially, I wanted to throw the seeds away, ‘cause the spiciness was the same as burning my tongue with a hot rod. It was totally inedible.

It was out of pure coincidence that I learned that burning the seeds with fire, would denaturalize the seeds into leathery, shriveled balls. The denaturalized seeds gave off a fragrant and sweet smell, with a now mild spiciness; giving it a great texture.

First, I rubbed the crushed seeds on the meat. As I had no salt or other spices, those seeds were the only seasoning I used. Then, I covered the upper part of the meat with the petals and wrapped everything together with those Belzac herbs. Afterward, I laid the wrapped meat on a makeshift cooking set I made with earth magic, and let it cook for a while.

-sniff, sniff-

Mhmm

Once opened, it gave off an appetizing aroma. I nearly thought I was in the kitchen at home again. Let’s give it a taste, already. Thank you for the food!

*munch*

Oh yes!

It does need some salt, but I shouldn’t complain when I’ve only had bland meat and strawberry until today. The sweet and spicy juices soaked in this meat, cannot be compared to that rabbit meal.

It is a bit overdone, but I can’t help it. This is my first-time cooking on a rock, after all.

The rest of the meat was devoured in no time, and my meal was gone in a flash. What a shame…

Now that I’m done with that, I think it’s time to level up [Space-Time Magic]. A few chunks of raccoon remain, in addition to the ton of herbs and seeds I procured. The meat will definitely spoil, if I don’t have a way to preserve it.

My mana will most likely get drain from casting [Haste] over and over, but that’s how the process works. I also have a feeling that I shouldn’t have my mana reach zero.

I guess I’ll wait in between casts to regenerate mana. Hopefully, this won’t take too long.

Haste.

Haste.

Haste.

Haste.

Haste.

Now it takes time, to fully, regenerate, yeah ♫

Haste.

My magic and spells that consumes it all up. ♫

Oh, tell me, I don’t have to wait long. ♫

Let’s level up. Let’s level up. Let’s level up. ♫

Haste!

It’s annoying, it’s boring, the sun just went down. ♫

For storage, I’ll be patient, as if I’m a saint. ♫

Recover, bit faster, oh my mana. ♫

Haste.

Takes too long, longer than I thought, baby! ♫

Just like that. The sweet streams of energy. ♫

My mana is flowing now, oh, it feels absolutely lovely. ♫

Haste.

Proficiency requirement fulfilled. [Space-Time Magic Lv. 1] evolved into [Space-Time Magic Lv. 2]

Magic gained: [Storage Magic]

Fucking finally! I thought I had enough time to write a whole song!

Jeez, [Haste] really takes a toll on my mana, however, we got the storage~

It’s awesome that my guess was correct, but I hope [Storage Magic] works exactly how I think it should. Well, I should also worry about the mana cost of [Storage Magic], considering the cost of [Haste]. I should invest in some more mana related skills. Anyways, how do I use the storage?

Storage Magic

Conjures a space-time storage, after using this spell. There is no need to cast the spell again. There is no maintenance cost to sustain the storage, but a storing limit will be imposed based on the MAX mana of the user. The user may put in and pull out items, by thinking of the action, while holding the item. Mana, the amount is based on the item's mass, will be used regardless of which action is taken. The user may learn what is stored, by asking the storage

Woah, that was a long description. I do appreciate that I got a detailed manual on how to use it though.

Ok, time to pack up and find a place to sleep for the night.
