《A Dragon Idol's Reincarnation Tale》Chapter 1: Why am I a lizard?

Urk, what happened just now?
That dream…why did I dream that? The cold chill spreading through my body like a freezing lake turned that okish dream into an awful nightmare. Just staying there felt like going outside without a jacket during winter.
Urgh, I need some muffins, or something sweet. Something to brighten my mind from that…
…Why is everything still dark?
Focusing on my eyelids, I can feel them closing and opening by my command. There weren’t any problems. Even closing them with a bit more force, so much that it slightly irritated my eyes, was possible.
Despite all my best efforts, there wasn’t any light. How it can be completely dark?!
My phone! If I can just find my mobile, then I can switch it on for some light. It doesn’t matter where it is, I just need to find it somewhere on my bed or my desk. I just need to move my hands around.
Stretching my arms around, my muscles were complaining about being stiff as if they haven’t been used in ages, but what concerned me more was how cumbersome it was to move around. It felt like some sort of liquid was slowing everything down, similar to walking underwater.
Once I raised my arms a bit, the warm feeling of that liquid was replaced by a sense of freedom as the liquid covering my arms slowly cooled down from being released.
…Please, don’t tell me that I had an accident in bed. That nightmare was scary, but it shouldn’t have made me wet myself, right?! Scheiße, the bedsheets smelled so good, too!
Nein, nein, calm down first. Maybe…maybe I drooled? Maybe I also trained too much yesterday, and my muscles were complaining about muscle soreness? That sounds plausible!
Alright, let’s first find my phone…what are my nails scratching?
My nails were touching something. Scratching it, it reminded me a bit like scratching eggshells, but it felt more like my nails were scraping small pieces off it.
Putting a bit more power into my hand, I could feel something was coursing inside me. My chest felt lighter while that “feeling” flowed towards my hand, granting it more weight and strength.
Some sorta energy, I think? …Oops!
Suddenly, while being preoccupied with thinking about what that "feeling" was supposed to be, a crack sound echoed. One of my fingers pierced through what I was touching, and it seems like I made a hole!
Slowly taking it out, I was decided to accept my fate that Papa will scold me for breaking something. Urgh, waking up from a nightmare was already mentally taxing but now I have to listen to a demoralizing speech. It’s not like you’re already earning enough by yourself to replace the whole apartment, Papa!

As I was silently wishing to come out of my future confrontation unscathed, my eyes noticed that the wall I was staring at was a boring white. That, however, doesn't make sense as the walls in my room are colored blue…wait!
Looking down, my eyes registered light coming out of the hole that my finger was just in. As I was reaching for it, I heard a pop and a squish coming from below.
What I saw was the reason why it was hard to move my body. I was swimming around in a viscous, slimy, translucent fluid that felt too warm for me to consider it as anything else but disgusting. It reminded me a bit like snot caused from catching a cold.
Yuck…
Driven by my desire to escape this slimy hell, I rushed and banged my body against the wall. Noticing that it did nothing, I placed one finger from each of my hands into the hole and started imagining that power again, letting it coarse through me while thinking about breaking through this wall.
Closing my eyes, I evoked all my strength in my arms and began tearing the wall out. Slowly but surely, the cracking resounded throughout the whole room, until I burst out of the room to be greeted by the warm light of morning.
As I fell on the ground, the fluids also flowed out and drenched me completely in it. The sticky feeling surrounding my whole body was enough that I wanted to go take a shower already.
However, instead of standing up, I kept lying in that pool of “whatever fluid”. My body was enjoying the warm feeling f the sun, too much, to find the energy to stand up.
Whew, has the sun always felt this great?! Relaxing like this is, seriously, needed after everything I had to experience.
Honestly, I was never a big fan of sunbathing, but I think I might begin liking it. By just lying here and letting the sunshine on me, my body feels re-invigorated as every single cell is being refilled with much-needed energy. If only this would happen every single morning, then I wouldn’t feel so sleepy.
Opening my eyes again, I remembered the urgency I just had and began looking around.
My surroundings were completely green and brown, looking very similar to Central Park, but also not. The trees are gigantic, forcing me to turn my head upwards, as I can barely see where these trees are supposed to end. The vibrant grass and leaves give this place an almost magical feeling, as the sun quietly shone over this whole area.
…Well, no use staying around any longer. I don’t know where I was, but my parents must be worried sick at this point. I need to give them a call and get back home immediately. Having anybody see me covered in this filthy liquid will be the worst thing in my whole life

Stilly lying, I turned my body around so I could search for my mobile, however, what I found instead made me freeze up.
…It’s an egg.
A broken egg to be more specific. It’s quite massive, too. No exaggeration. From my perspective, it might seem as big as a small house in the countryside.
This isn’t really what I expected to see, but considering that it’s directly behind me, could this be where I was stuck? Forget about it, I need to give my parents a call before they call the police…
However, the surprises continue. Trying to stand up, I noticed that I couldn’t stand up on my legs. After trying to find my balance, I fell on the ground and splashed on the liquid.
Pushing myself up with my legs, I had the feeling that I barely moved up. Even weirder, my body was telling me that I could start walking now.
Pushing my hands and legs forward, my muscles were silently complaining about the difficulty of moving but I was nonetheless moving. It felt much easier than moving only on my legs.
Having enough of walking, my head turned to the side so my eyes could look at my current appearance, just so I know how funny this much look, but was graced my sight didn’t even produce a giggle at all.
Both my arms and legs were covered in shimmering, jet-black scales with a similarly colored tail attached behind them. There was no sight of any clothing on my body but neither was my pink skin. My naked body instead had the appearance of millions of tiny black scales completely covering my back, stomach, and chest.
It should have been an embarrassing sight, but my eyes widened from a single thought.
Oh great, I thought I had stopped dreaming, but I guess this is part two. Ha ha ha ha ha…
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Oh, come on, what the hell is this? First, I wake up in some giant egg in some park or whatever, and now I have a tail? With scales!? WHERE ARE MY CLOTHES! WHY AM I NAKED! WHAT IS GOING WITH ME!
Ok, I shouldn’t panic, this could all be in my head. Everything could be an illusion.
Breathing in deeply and then back out, I calmed myself down for a split second until I noticed that my “nails” were a bit too longer…and sharp.
…
…I need a mirror.
Rushing towards a nearby puddle, I placed my head above it, telling myself to be brave and just open my eyes. I reassured myself that it was all a dream and that this was probably just some cosplay o-or painting!
…Why am I a lizard?
The image is unclear, but I could see a lizard’s face covered in black scales similar to the ones I just saw on my legs. No hair, no outer ear and tiny knife-like teeth in my mouth.
The hope that I built up was once again destroyed.
“Kriiiiiiiah!”
Just awesome, my panicked cries of absolute panic sounds exactly like the ones that lizards would make when they wake up and realize they are now a lizard.
This must be a dream. Please tell me that the real me is still enjoying a peaceful sleep on my soft bed ‘cause if this isn’t a dream, then…did I die?
Nein, nein, nein, du Dummkopf!
Why the hell was that the first thing that came in my mind?! No, don’t think about those thoughts! A sane person should not assume that she just died when something weird happens!
But…I do own a few novels with the theme of reincarnation into a new world. You die and are reincarnated into another world, where you inherit your memories from your past life.
Dying and then being transferred into another world sounds so typical for these stories, that it rationalizes some parts of this whole situation. The fact that I’m a newborn lizard with information on reincarnation novels kinda gets proven with this idea.
No, maybe I got transformed into a lizard by some mad scientist's experiment? That is also crazy enough to make sense in this situation, right? Well, I guess it's a better idea than the morbid one I just had.
Ha ha ha ha, ahhhhhhhhh! I screamed internally this time just so I could avoid hearing that lizard-like scream again.
Either way, I need to distract myself by doing something. Working this situation out under the assumption that I didn’t die should help me stay composed for now. Dream or not, I don’t have my phone, so I might as well try finding something that actually makes sense here.
…That’s when I heard something approaching me from behind.
Two individuals. Both are covered with fur, wearing nothing but a loincloth while wielding a big chunk of wood shaped in the form of a club.
““Grooouu!””
…I should probably run away now.
