《The Apple Grotto Nymph》Chapter 44

Theanore and Marinus were working hard cutting cookie dough with classes for the cookies for the fair. There was only one day left. Their worker elves were also making a lot of sweets for the fair.
The forest of fireflies’ guardians were introduced to the worker elves and even to Theanore’s Eelaconda. It was nice that now the children didn’t need to hide.
The guardians were running back and forth with bags of packaged sweets that would sell for a single silver coin per package. They had a preprinted drawing made by Theanore and Marinus of them both making cookies.
Because the word got out that the author of the book herself was making sweets for the fair many preordered a box. So far, they had 200 boxes made of which 146 were already sold.
“What if they don’t like our cookies, Mari.” Asked Theanore as she cut the dough. Crassus was knitting more to the side. Marinus brushed a stray hair from his face and grinned.
“These are the super-duper delicious vanilla cookies of Thea the nymph. With your own recipe. They will be fools not to like them.”
“And we can make more even after the fair if they do like them. This is a relaxing activity for the whole family.” Said Crassus, smiling. The kids filled one baking tin and Marinus placed it in the oven.
He then went to the second oven and checked the lemon cakes inside. They looked rosy and smelled very nice. He decided to take them out. With his lightness and fire enchanted mittens, both level 1000 on the scale, he got the lemon cakes to the cooling area.
“Thea, we need more boxes for the cakes. Tell the ants to hurry.” He called and then Theanore placed down the glass with which she cut the cookies and cleared her throat.

“Ants, line up.” An ant answered her call and she placed an empty box next to her.
“We need more of these. About 100 more. For lemon cakes. Make them bigger.” She finished and the ant scurried off to where they were making boxes out of wood.
The way the ants made boxes was simple. They first sliced a tree into smaller sections and then ate the tree chunks into box-shaped items. They had to then transport the rest of the wood chunks for kindling.
“Do you think we will be able to enjoy the fair too? I mean, Larriel and Lena said we can, but who is going to sell the discounted items?” Asked Theanore, worrying her lower lip.
“If they said it then it will happen.” Said Crassus. He already had a plan to man the stall and let the children enjoy the fair to the fullest.
Meanwhile, the forest of fireflies’ guardians were doing a delivery. They unloaded the last fifty boxes they had on them in the inn’s storeroom and they sat down to take a break.
“Man, how many more can they make for a single day?” Asked Brandon, after which he drank from his waterskin.
“Young man, what is in these boxes?” Asked the elderly puppeteer. His wife was close behind him.
“Sweets for the fair, Sir. The author and her family make them.” Answered Brandon.
“And we sit idly by? For shame. We must help. Everyone, to the bakery!” Said the elderly woman and all the performers followed her out to the town’s bakery. Brandon groaned. He could sense he would need to deliver more sweets to the inn soon.
Candy canes were made and gingerbread men and hard candy and all kinds of Yule sweets. The nimble elves made 500 boxes by the end of the day. By the end grandpa Thinker went back inside his room at the inn, exhausted.

“Grandma Merriweather, do you think we are doing a good job?” Asked grandpa Thinker the quill, which was also his dungeon’s system.
“You were very humble the entire day. Maybe you will get into the good list yet, old dog.” Said grandma Merriweather. This was the best grandpa Thinker has done ever since he choose to become a dungeon in truth.
That had been hard on the man. Devising traps, creating man-eating monsters and plants. Placing his crystal deep into the earth where no one will ever see it. Grandma Merriweather knew that he was trying to change. She just needed to believe in him.
“They still don’t know of the stones of infinity you placed?” Asked the quill.
“No, and it will remain like that. For as long as I am alive people will be able to enter the forest but they will be incapable of harming little Theanore or her family.” Said grandpa Thinker, pride slipping into his voice.
“This time you are right to take pride in your actions.” Said the grandmother when she noticed him looking at the ground. “Let us make tomorrow a day the young children would remember.”
“And let us make Yule just as grand this year.” Said, grandpa Thinker. “Let there be no bad list for the smaller transgressions. What was I thinking? Punishing people who misbehaved to feed their families?”
“The list is not pointless, my dear.” Said the quill. “Murderers and worse should get punished. By us, if not by anyone else. But yes, I think you should become a bit laxer.”
They both sat in rocking chairs and got some milk with cookies for their hard day of work.
“Do you think I can get away with bringing some of the citizens of Alerion here for the fair?” Asked grandpa Thinker, munching on a cookie.
“You absolutely must give your poor almost slaves a break. And you have to start treating them like actual workers, Albert. Or else you will remain on the bad list. Your actions towards a single person can’t hope to wash away your actions towards those closest to you.”
“I know. I heard little Theanore has made a worker syndicate.” Then he chuckled. “She even includes plants and fish in it. I think I have a lot to learn from her. Now pass me another cookie, please.”

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Forgotten Dungeon
Death comes quickly and without warning. Even for such little personage as him. It's quite hard to start as a dungeon core. Quite harder when divine bureaucracy simply dumps you in the a** end of nowhere because of their incompetence and because of your agent status as a Fallen Angel. Yet Uno (temporary name) is used to working with subpar materials and making the best of circumstances. It doesn't help that his personality was cut down to size, but he tries to overcome the system with ingenuity and a healthy dose of duct tape. Or the local equivalent of such. *** An audiobook of the Forgotten Dungeon story has been made by Agro Squerrils and is available on YouTube, under this link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcfzFNUhrNS3Z7DfjN5pMWn-CI1uKg3s2 He has my permission and full support for doing so, so don't be shy and check it out! *** Hello people! It's a story about a dungeon. Or maybe the dungeon? Who knows. Dumped in a hostile world, working hard to overcome circumstances. There is an RPG system in place, but I'll try to make it not number-heavy. I would be more focused on skills - at least from the perspective of the sentient races. Dungeons will have their own little playground. I'll try to make MC not overpowered - it always irks me how the stories tend to go from zero to hero in a few minutes. I hope y'all will enjoy the ride! *** Also, a Discord server has been made recently: https://discord.gg/sK2pam3 Join and share your opinions, if interested! :)

Sarsaparilla's Scary Super Power. Completed
Sarsaparilla is an older teenage girl living on Mars. And, like many other young people around her, she has a super power. Or, rather, she is supposed to have a super power. Only she has never been able to activate it, she doesn’t even know what her super power is. This annoys her, tremendously. But she hides this behind a really sweet smile. Adalace is another teenage girl, also on Mars. She knows what her own super power is, and it is quite a good one. She is also really cute… so long has she keeps her feelings under control and doesn’t let out anything from her dark past. Teylon is a man, currently living on Earth. He likes to think of himself as still young, even if he is over fifty. He’s a bit smug about his successful career and is thinking of retiring… until a sadly unfortunate event leads him to the conclusion that he had better immigrate to Mars. Immediately. Apparently, meeting one’s own Angel of Death tends to cause people to make profound changes to their lives… Mars society had better brace itself, because once these three people, plus another three also not so quite stable individuals, collide with each other, the resulting explosion is not going to leave anyone on Mars unaffected. This is another Esmeralda, the Angel of Death, story. It follows on from my previous two such stories, but it is in no way dependent on the previous stories. They can be read in any order. It is fully written and proof read (using Word for Windows, no real editor touched this transcript) and comes to about 247,000 words (about 895 Royal Road pages). It is organized into 50 chapters and I will be publishing them roughly one per day. In my writing, there are multiple characters and multiple points of view. Each change in a point of view is introduced by a header, giving the viewpoint character’s name first, and possibly a title. Inside a Point of View section, dialog in italics represents the Point of View character’s thoughts, while dialog between quotes represent normal spoken dialog. This story is very much inspired by the anime A Certain Scientific Railgun. However I have only taken some elements from the anime, and changed everything I took to make my own story, and so it does not count as fanfiction. Yeah, I know, the book cover page isn’t very good. It’s the best I could do, by tracing over a stock image. The two ladies shown are supposed to be Adalace and Sarsaparilla. Ideally I would have liked there to be two images of this pair, one where they are smiling sweetly and looking cute, and one where they are looking really angry and dangerous. But that totally exceeds my graphics abilities. You will just have to imagine it.
