《Ranker's Return》Chapter 646

“Hello, everyone. I am Alley Leader.”
Hyeonu started the streaming and greeted viewers.
-Hi.
-What are you doing today?
-Don’t you see the streaming title? It is Alley Leader Academy today.
-I entered it as soon as I saw the notification, so I didn’t see it.
Viewers ignored Hyeonu’s greeting and talked to each other.
‘No, why is the chat window like this?’
Hyeonu saw the chat window and thought that today’s streaming wouldn’t be easy. The viewers’ messages were going in another direction. It was obvious that the atmosphere would become a mess if it continued in this way.
‘They will fight and be unfriendly.’
Hyeonu had seen it countless times on the streams of other streamers. It was difficult to achieve great success when streaming with this phenomenon. It was commonly referred to as a stagnant state. There was no influx of new viewers.
‘I will have to draw the attention back...’
“Now, one week has passed. There must be something, right? Does anyone remember?”
Hyeonu took special measures in order to attract attention. He pulled forward what he was originally going to say at the end of the streaming.
-What will happen after a week?
-Is there an attendance reward event or something?
-I can’t remember...
-Ah, is he announcing that today?
-Please let me win, please.
Some viewers had no idea what Hyeonu was saying. However, most viewers knew what Hyeonu meant.
The item event. They remembered Hyeonu’s words about selecting at least 10 people to give rare items.
“I will announce the winners of the event I mentioned in advance before starting the streaming. Can I do that?”
Hyeonu delayed the time by pretending to seek consent from the viewers. It was a trick to raise tension and attract more people’s attention.
-Of course.
-Quickly announce it.
-I’m dizzy.
-God, Buddha, Allah... I hope to win the prize!
Viewers knew it, but they still fell for it. It was bound to be so. Now Hyeonu was the host of the event and the audience were the inferior party hoping to win the prize. However, some viewers who gave up on winning went on a rampage.
“Then I will announce the winner right away. If you win, please send me a screenshot of your account status window on my A-World channel and I’ll send you the item right away.”
A minimum of information was needed in order to send an appropriate item to the winner. He couldn’t just give it right away. The Arena information wasn’t shown on A-World.
“I will announce the first winner. It is ‘Max’ who wrote ‘Alley Leader, I respect you. I’m really a fan.’ I don’t know if you are watching the streaming right now. My sincere congratulations.”
Hyeonu looked down at the list of winners he had written in advance and read the name at the very top.

-He is really giving it...
-In fact, I hadn’t believed it.
-It is real.
Viewers were surprised to hear Hyeonu’s winner announcement. They hadn’t thought that Hyeonu would hold the event. They thought it was a one-time joke.
“Next is ‘Sophie’ who wrote ‘I love you, Alley Leader, the best streamer~.’ Congratulations. The third person is ‘Ken’ who wrote ‘I admire you, Alley Leader. You are my favorite streamer.’”
Hyeonu continued to announce the winners. It ended when Hyeonu said 10 names.
“The last winner is ‘Kim Mincheol’ who wrote ‘The recent streaming is so much fun these days. I love you, Hyung-nim.’”
It happened at this moment...
A person claiming to be the winner appeared in the chat window.
-Wow, I won. Thank you. I will make sure to send the certification. Hyung-nim, I love you.
-Don’t lie.
-I wasn’t tricked. Good job.
-Don’t trust it before the certification.
Viewers were half filled with disbelief and half envy as they ignored the message.
"Yes, please certify it. I would really appreciate it if you could post it to the community.”
However, it was different for Hyeonu. It didn’t matter if that person won or not. It was good as long as it was controversial.
‘Isn’t it all publicity?’
Just then, a wonderful thought came to Hyeonu’s mind. The word ‘certification’ inspired Hyeonu.
“If the 10 winners certify it in the community today, I will increase the number of winners next time by the number of certified people. Ah, of course, you can win multiple times. Please comment on the videos that will be uploaded after today.”
In any case, the expenses were already scheduled. Whether it became a meaningless consumption or investment for greater rewards depended on Hyeonu’s actions. Hyeonu used the event as a springboard for greater popularity.
-Hey, did you hear? Winners, certify yourself quickly.
-Then next week will be 20 people.
-So there will be 30 in the week after?
-Surely that isn’t possible? It is just 20 people.
-Indeed... he can’t afford it if he increases the benefits.
The chatting of viewers, which had subsided, started again enthusiastically. It was a shame that they didn’t win, but if 10 people won here, there was double the opportunity to win next week.
‘Good. I’m very satisfied.’
Hyeonu looked at the chat window and smiled happily. Thanks to this, all types of articles related to Hyeonu would be posted on the community sites. Then more people would know about the event and Hyeonu’s channel would once again soar.
‘I have to make a proper investment to see the best effect.’
“Now, let’s officially start today’s content.”
Clap clap.
Hyeonu clapped. Then an older man walked out from the back. The man waved with a deep smile.
“Hello, everyone. I am the first student of the second season of Alley Leader Academy, Jamie Moore.”

The man’s name was Jamie Moore. A few hours ago, everything was reversed by Hyeonu.
“As you know, today’s content is Alley Leader Academy. Jamie Moore standing here couldn’t even hunt properly until just last week. Thus, he couldn’t enjoy Arena.”
Hyeonu started to give an explanation of Jamie Moore. It wasn’t a bad explanation. It was a base to show how dramatic the transformation was.
“However, the current Jamie Moore is different. He can fight a scarecrow of the same level. Of course, it is thanks to his stats increasing from his items.”
The chat window shook at Hyeonu’s words.
-What?
-A person changed in a week?
-Isn’t that another person wearing a mask?
-How can a person who can’t fight defeat a scarecrow in a week?
Viewers didn’t believe it. They couldn’t believe it. Everyone knew that Jamie Moore was bad at games. This was fixed in one week. It was a revolution, a revolution. It was news that gave hope to many who were bad at games.
“I knew you wouldn’t believe it. Thus, I prepared this. Jamie? It is time to fight the scarecrow. Show your change to everyone.”
Jamie Moore nodded.
"I understand. I will give it a try,” Jamie Moore replied with a confident expression. He had changed quite a lot in the few hours since meeting Hyeonu. During that time, he devoted himself to hunting alone and achieved his first class change as a warrior class.
‘I can do it, I can do it.’
Jamie Moore encouraged himself. The hours of hunting made basic combat possible. In fact, it wasn’t just possible. It was at a fairly decent level. The videos of the many rankers that Jamie Moore had seen made his fighting skills quite wonderful. He hadn’t realized it, but he had already learned a certain amount in his mind.
Jamie Moore pulled a sword out of his inventory. His sword was a rare item. It was one of the most valuable swords available at level 10.
Jamie Moore’s sword left a dark red afterimage as it moved through the air. It was the effect of the skill book Hyeonu had given Jamie Moore that allowed him to handle the flame of the demon world, Fragach.
The summoned scarecrow swung its sword at Jamie Moore to counter his attack. The two swords collided and a sharp metallic sound burst out. The scarecrow held the sword with both hands and pushed away Jamie Moore’s sword. Jamie Moore was pushed back by the scarecrow’s sudden attack. Unexpected attacks were always a crisis. The scarecrow swung its sword toward Jamie Moore, who was stepping back.
‘I have to block it!’ Jamie Moore moved his arms when he saw the scarecrow’s sword rapidly aiming for the top of his head. Jamie Moore narrowly managed to block the scarecrow’s sword. It was a really small difference. If he was a little bit slower, then he might’ve lost his life to the scarecrow’s sword.
‘It isn’t like the scarecrow I fought earlier...’
Jamie Moore realized that the scarecrow had become stronger.
‘It’s fine. Stay calm. You can do it, Jamie Moore.’
However, Jamie Moore was much different from a few hours ago. Due to leveling up and his class change, his stats had increased dramatically and his items were changed at level 10.
Jamie Moore was using the method of adults with a thick bank account to play the game. Jamie Moore returned everything he had suffered. Just like the scarecrow did, he gave strength to his sword and pushed the scarecrow. Jamie Moore’s stats were higher than the scarecrow, so the scarecrow was forced to be helplessly pushed back.
It wasn’t just that. Jamie Moore pushed up from bottom to top so the scarecrow’s sword was toward the sky. In other words, its abdomen was defenseless. Jamie Moore didn’t miss this gap.
‘Mister Gang fights like this.’
It was a learning effect created by watching countless videos. Jamie Moore’s sword pierced the scarecrow’s abdomen with a sharp momentum. The scarecrow’s body was cut and its movement stopped.
“Now, did you see it? Everyone? Jamie Moore has changed in this way. He beat the scarecrow with the same specs as his first class,” Hyeonu spoke to the viewers with a strange smile.
-This is unconditionally a stand-in.
-In any case, it is a stand-in.
-Can a person change like this?
-This is a real education course that should be uploaded as a video. Could a person change like this?
The viewers were stunned. They couldn’t believe Jamie Moore’s change.
“The video you want will be on my A-World channel, so please watch it.”
Hyeonu inserted a promotion of his channel.
“I will tell you one more thing... for Jamie Moore, it will take him a very long time to reach the desired goal. It is because he needs time to level up. Do you all understand this?”
-He is currently level 10. A bronze medal doesn’t make sense.
-If he goes to the arena now, he will win 0 games and lose 10,000 games.
The viewers perfectly understood what Hyeonu was saying. Then Hyeonu unveiled a new student to the viewers.
“I think it will be boring if Jamie keeps appearing as the academy content for a long time, so I prepared another student.”
-Huh? Another student?
-Are you going to have two people at the same time?
-This is right. It will be too relaxed if Jamie Moore keeps coming out. It has to be filled with somebody.
-So who is the second student?
“The second student’s name is Ray. He is also known as Destroyer. Destroyer Ray! He is the second student of Alley Leader Academy.”
Hyeonu’s words silenced the chat window.

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
