《Refining the Mountains and Rivers》Chapter 1040 - The Merry Forest

The fox woman’s sadness turned into a smile. After gesturing a hand, she swayed her hips and guided Qin Yu out of the hall.
“Who is that person that he can receive such a courteous reception even in Thousand Eye Temple?” An abyssal demon asked quietly.
Another demon said, “I saw that person yesterday. His name is Liu Huo. I have no idea what background or origin he comes from, but it definitely isn’t poor.”
“Hehe, to have that fox woman try to seduce him with so much effort isn’t something that can be accomplished with wealth alone!” Another demon sneered as he spoke.
After a brief silence, the hall became noisy once again. But, there was an uncertain look in everyone’s eyes. The beast tide was coming. Unless someone obtained special amnesty from Great Deer City, they all had to mount the city walls and help resist the crazy impact of demon beasts.
Although Great Deer City had never experienced a time when the demon beasts had broken through, all of the previous beast tides had an enormous amount of recorded casualties.
No one had confidence in being able to safely live through the beast tide, so during this period of time they were all doing their best to figure out ways to increase their strength.
This was why business in Thousand Eye Temple was so brisk.
With such a fat sheep here, if they could swallow him up it would be enough for them to buy some more protective armor and some life-saving demon medicines.
As for the risk of robbing?
Hoho, they all lived in the abyss and on what day were there no dangers? Even when just walking down a road there was a chance they could be leapt upon by demon beasts and eaten, or they could be captured and their bloodlines extracted to make demon medicine.
If one wanted a harvest, they had to pay a price. The abyss was a place where someone couldn’t live if they were cautious all the time.
Qin Yu followed the same tunnel as yesterday. But this time, he wasn’t brought to the old fox steward, but was brought to another reception room.
The fox woman began to boil tea, an apologetic look on her face. “Because he had no idea that mister was coming today, the steward made other arrangements and he is currently receiving other guests. However, I have already passed on a message. I ask mister to please wait here. The steward will soon arrive.”
Qin Yu took out a demon crystal card. This was a card especially refined using demon crystals. It was similar to jade slips in the living world and could record information.
“The reason I came is to purchase some materials. The list is here. There should be no problem troubling the steward to come.”
The fox woman hesitated and then picked up the demon crystal card. After looking through it, there was some doubt in her heart but she didn’t reveal any of it. She smiled and said, “All of these materials are within my transaction authority. If mister is in a hurry, I can go and prepare them now.”

Qin Yu nodded, “Thank you.”
The fox woman bowed and excused herself. She soon returned and placed a demon leather bag on the table. “Mister, please take a look.”
Qin Yu picked it up and said, “I trust in Thousand Eye Temple’s reputation. How many demon crystals will this be?”
“Mister is an honored guest of my Thousand Eye Temple and can enjoy the highest level 20% discount. After rounding the cost, 20 thousand demon crystals will be sufficient.”
Qin Yu’s heart twitched. He never thought that the relatively ordinary materials in Liu Huo’s records would be so expensive.
Fortunately, he still had at least 20,000 demon crystals in hand. If he couldn’t take it out then that would be truly embarrassing.
After the payment was complete, he didn’t wait for the old fox to come. He stood up and bid his farewells.
The fox woman sent him away as usual. When Qin Yu stepped out of Thousand Eye Temple, she hesitated for a moment and said, “Guest, you should be careful.”
Qin Yu glanced at her, “Thank you for the warning.”
He stepped out and mixed into the street of demons.
Glancing at his back, the fox woman turned and left. When she returned to the reception room the old fox was standing there, a thoughtful look on his face as he held the demon crystal card.
“He left?” Putting down the demon crystal card, the old fox turned and looked at the fox woman.
The fox woman respectfully said, “Yes, I reminded him to be careful, but I’m afraid it will be difficult for him to escape those that are tracking him today.”
The old fox lightly said, “That is his own matter, it has nothing to do with us.” His eyes flashed and he tapped the demon crystal card. “How interesting. A demonic refining master of minor fame completed a transaction worth tens of millions yesterday, but today he came to purchase such low-level materials. Even I do not understand what he is trying to do.”
The fox woman nodded. She suddenly remembered something, “Steward, the guest who is looking for someone has contacted us again. Has there been any news?”
The old fox had a calm expression, “Not right now. Tell her to wait for the time being. As long as that person is in this level of the abyss, our Thousand Eye Temple will be able to find them.”
“Yes!”
The fox woman bowed and left.
…
After leaving Thousand Eye Temple, Qin Yu noticed that he was being targeted. His eyes flashed. Unlike yesterday when he threw them off his track, he thought about it and veered off into a remote area.
Although the current Great Deer City was overcrowded with people and there was basically no place that was quiet, there were still some blind spot areas. Even if an accident occurred in these places, there were basically no demon guards around who would care about it.

For instance, an alley called the Merry Forest that Qin Yu was headed towards.
No matter what the place was, there were always areas the light could never penetrate. The Merry Forest in Great Deer City was one such place.
What lay in front of him were low buildings stacked up on top of each other. Cold eyes looked down from all sides and an invisible and disturbing atmosphere flowed through the air.
Seeing Qin Yu enter the Merry Forest, the complexions of the demons that chased after him changed. After hesitating, some of them decided to retreat and leave.
But not all demons dreaded the reputation of Merry Forest. Although it was said that strong dragons could not suppress a local snake and powerful outsiders had to be cautious of local gangsters, that was only relatively speaking.
Under the threat of absolute strength all else was ground to dust, so of course there was nothing to fear.
But the Merry Forest was notorious all around. Since they only came for wealth, it was better to have insurance.
“I want to work together.”
“After killing Liu Huo, we will equally divide the harvest.”
“Fine!”
In the end, the abyssal demons who decided to enter had reached a temporary alliance. They merged together and raced into the alley. In the blink of an eye, they vanished from sight.
After entering the Merry Forest there was no more need to conceal themselves. The demons raced ahead, soon catching up to Qin Yu.
“Stop!”
With a loud shout, an abyssal demon fiendishly grinned. He raised his hands and thrust them forward.
Bang –
Abyssal demon energy erupted, transforming into a giant axe that cut down at Qin Yu’s head!
Qin Yu didn’t turn around but he seemed to see the attack that came from behind. He flickered and dodged.
The ground shattered and a long gash was torn open. Many of the low-stacked houses on both sides of the alley collapsed.
Behind the windows, the originally indifferent abyssal demons started to stand up, unfriendly looks in their eyes.
The air filled with a yin chill!
The abyssal demon that attacked smiled. “We have come for him. After killing him we will leave. The lot of you had better not provoke trouble for yourselves…”
Whoosh –
There was the sound of howling air. The demon’s complexion changed and his eyes widened as if he had realized something terrifying.
With a yelp, he stepped backward, storming away.
But at this time a shadow fiercely accelerated, passing directly through his chest. Blood gushed out from his back.
Opposed to demon beasts, the blood of abyssal demons was red. However, compared to humans, the color was somewhat deeper.
“It’s been a long time since someone has dared to cause trouble in my Merry Forest. You outsiders have guts…then, none of you can leave!” With a cold sneer, the demons that surrounded them separated to open a path.
A demon youth stepped forward. He couldn’t be considered tall and strong, and when compared to most demons, he was light and thin. But when the surrounding demons looked at him, there was awe and respect in their eyes.
“Horned Python Clan!” One of the demons that chased after Qin Yu roared out loud, his face paling.
When the others saw the dense gray textures that marked this demon youth’s skin, they also revealed horrified looks. They never expected that they would encounter a master of the Horned Python Clan in the Merry Forest.
The abyssal tribes differentiated the strong from the weak based on their bloodline. And, the status of the Horned Python Clan was second only to some powerful royal families. Amongst the top tribes, they were ranked amongst the best.
The people of their clan were born with infinite strength. After becoming adults the horn on their head would fall off. With some refining, their horns could be forged into the strongest weapons that were sharp and nearly indestructible.
And the most important point was that this youth had killed the abyssal demon with just one move. He displayed an absolute difference in strength.
This was at least a Demon General-level, and an outstanding one at that!
He likely wasn’t far away from the level of a Demon Commander.
The aggressive and threatening demons that intruded into the Merry Forest all deflated like punctured balloons. Their arrogance disappeared and all that remained was a rising fear.
“Misunderstanding, it’s all a misunderstanding. We have no intention of provoking the Merry Forest!” An abyssal demon hurriedly said.
The horned python youth sneered, “You trash think you are worthy of provoking the Merry Forest? Just die!” He lifted a hand and grasped forward. The black shadow that killed the abyssal demon howled back out.
Puff –
Puff –
The sounds of breaking flesh and blood rang out, making one’s scalp tingle. The smell of blood was thick in the air.
“Flee!”
“Run away!”
Numerous demons fled in a panic. But what a pity, their speed wasn’t faster. Even after running away they were overtaken by the shadow as it pierced through their chests.
Several short breaths of time later, the horned python youth raised his hand and a black spear landed in his palm. All of the abyssal demons that came chasing after Qin Yu had died on the spot.
He turned and coldly looked at Qin Yu. “To be chased down by so many people, you must be a fat sheep. Give me whatever you have on you. Maybe you can buy back your own life!”

Tur Briste
A Druid cultivation novel. Borrows concepts from Wuxia and Xianxia but using Druid myth and lore. More on this at the bottom. Crow is son of Maddox, a Druid with an ancient bloodline and a people with a story spanning toward the beginning of time. Cursed, unfated, and a heap of bad luck have brought him only pain and suffering, but nothing will stop him. Nothing can stop him. A son of Maddox doesn’t bow his head. A son of Maddox understands that only a man with roots, with something to lose, will fight until the last drop of blood leaves his body. The Draoidh were once a proud people. They were both respected and hated for their form of righteousness. Power wasn’t something they gained through the might of their arms, but through intelligence. Their fall was all the more disheartening for the weaker cultivators. The tens of thousands of years that followed… chaos reigned. They forced Draoidh until most fled to the lower realms, nearly wiped out and exhausted. They went into hiding and became known as the Druids of the Oak. The Druid Order wasn’t the powerhouse it had been, and only nine of the major clans survived the calamity. Their bloodline weakened, as well as their prestige. Even the remaining clans fought amongst each other. Already on the decline and near extinguished, the Maddox clan can only struggle for survival, but their foundation wasn’t a joke. Weakened, but not weak. The other clans will understand this difference soon enough. Tur Briste, the Shattered Tower, awaits Crow’s ascension. Reaching the upper realms is only the first step in reestablishing the Draoidh. The Druids of the Oak remembered every betrayal and grievance, and they’ll return to power and reclaim what once belonged to them. The upper realms may have forgotten, but the Druid Order has not. Please Note:1) This is harem story. There are only a few chapters with sex, and it’s not a focus of the story. I’ll only add graphic sex if I feel the story needs it, so not gratuitously. Either way, Crow has several women. This is in line with Druid/Celtic history, and harems/reverse harems were an accepted part of their culture. Further, they had open marriages, meaning the man or woman could end their marriage at any time. While it was still a patriarchy, women had almost equal power. They were a very progressive culture. 2) There is a period of a 30-50 chapters where Crow loses the ability to cultivate like a Druid so he adopts an eastern body cultivation method for a while. This is temporary, but some people feel it’s misleading, so I am pointing it out ahead of time. I promise, the Druid stuff comes back, and 90% of the lore/myths/creatures/gods are all related to Druid/Celt/Irish/Scottish history. 3) I use many original names, most of which are in Gaelic or Irish. In the story, I refer to this language as Ancient. I enjoy all kinds of folklore and myths, so I encourage you to google those original names as they arrive. I give some background on them at the end of the chapter in my author’s note. 4) I use Ogham runes a lot, these are like the Druid alphabet, and they based each rune on a sacred tree so they also have symbolism associated with them. Again, feel free to google that too. It’s pretty neat stuff. Quick Translations:Draoidh = DruidTur Briste = Shattered Tower or Broken Tower Release Schedule:As of Oct 1, 2021- 3 chapters released every Sunday (May have up to two bonus chapters)- Side character chapters… this might be bonus chapters I release through the week. So they won’t count toward the 3 chapters on Sunday.- Please understand I work full time, have two kids, and can’t spare as much time as I’d like toward my writing. Maybe in the future I can switch to doing this full time, but for now 3 chapters is a comfortable pace for me. Lastly… I very much appreciate all my readers and thank you for allowing me to entertain you!

Tryphant Agent's Historical Logs
[Disclaimer: This novel is no longer in continuation since I've found more joy in writing short stories. I'll continue writing about this universe and the world in it, building upon the documents of the Tryphant Agents but in another novel] What is the origin of life? What is the meaning to life? Are we the only intelligent being in this universe? Why haven't we been struct by a catastrophe??? How has the world been so peaceful for such a long time?!!! Is there a hidden force that controls our world from being destroyed?!!! How have we not noticed them!?!!! Am I just delusional??!!!! I'm definetly delusional. These are the questions that mortals often ask and frequently ignore in their life, yet answering these questions will lead a person to the Tryphant Agents. An organization who protects various civiliaztions from destruction time and time again without a single person noticing them. They are an organization that is like time, powerful yet unnoticed. This is the historical logs of the Tryphant Agents. Disclaimer: I'm writing this to fill my world with details and I'm only hoping for this to be a good story. The main core focus is to write characters with life into them, a world where it feels real, and story that is consistent. Don't expect a top tier story because this will be my experimental logs as well where I will try various writing styles. Rather I wish that you hope for a great story instead.
