《Refining the Mountains and Rivers》Chapter 1037 – Beast Tide

The great lord that the group of tall abyssal demons respectfully spoke to was wearing deep black and purple robes that covered their body. However, their petite figure was enough to indicate that this person was unexpectedly a woman.
She looked up ahead, a trace of purple light flashing in her eyes. Invisible strength surged around her body. All of the falling stones instantly froze before dropping in place.
“Recently, holy energy has been gushing out frequently and there have been signs of restless agitation. While the time isn’t right, according to my observations, a beast tide will soon erupt again.”
A cold voice came from beneath the long robes. The complexions of the surrounding abyssal demons changed, their pupils shrinking with fear and panic.
The abyss was endless and no one knew where the end of its depths lay. Even throughout all the generations of abyssal demons that had survived until now, no one knew where it eventually led.
In this vast layered world, besides the abyssal demon race, what was even more was the endless demon beasts.
To a degree, it could be said that the abyssal demon beasts were the true masters of this world.
Things were fine on normal days. While there was chaos caused by the demon beasts from deep within the abyss, with the abyssal demon race suppressing them, order and stability could still be found.
But every now and then, when the demonic energy erupting from the abyss became unstable, the demon beasts would gradually fall into a berserk state.
At that time, countless trillions of all sorts of demon beasts would gather together and attack the regions dominated by the abyssal demon race. The records of the abyssal demons showed that over the years, innumerable cities had been crushed and destroyed by the rioting demon beasts, and the deaths and injuries were incalculable.
This was the beast tide.
The young woman beneath the robes came from a deeper layer of the abyss. Her strength was mysterious and formidable. Although she hadn’t been here here for long, she had obtained the approval of the others based on her own performance.
No one dared to suspect her words. So as time passed, the faces of the abyssal demons became increasingly ugly.
Once the beast tide erupted, all abyssal demons had to hide in their cities. They had to rely on the thick and tall city walls to withstand the onslaught.
And everything caught outside of the cities would be thoroughly smashed and torn apart by the raging storm of demon beasts.
Disregarding all else, just this alone caused an inestimable amount of losses.
“My lord, if this is true we must immediately return to the city. We must summon our clansmen to escape into the city right now!” A tall abyssal demon said.
The purple light in the woman’s eyes grew thicker. She slowly said, “There is still some time before the beast tide erupts. We must verify the situation in front of us first…I suspect that because of the outbreak of holy energy, a formidable demon beast has arrived here from the deeper abyss. If we cannot kill it before the beast tide erupts, then once that happens, I fear it will dominate over 10,000 demon beasts!”

“10,000 beasts level?” The numerous abyssal demons cried out in alarm, shock in their eyes. With the strength of the city they were in, if they really encountered the impact of 10,000 beasts the walls would most likely be breached. At that time, everyone would die!
The more formidable a demon beast was, the more their mind would be corroded by holy energy. This would lead to them being unable to maintain their intelligence. Driven by instinct, they would kill and devour anything in their path to constantly strengthen themselves. The scene of slaughter in front of them was actually similar to this.
The demon turned around. His appearance was similar to that of a human, but his face was entirely covered in dark black textures that resembled scales. “My lord is right. For the safety of the city we must investigate this situation first and see what is happening. If there really is a 10,000 beast-level demon beast here, we must slay it before the beast tide erupts!”
“Yes, commander!” The surrounding demons roared out loud, violent killing intent erupting from their bodies as their eyes turned red.
Beneath her robes, the woman relaxed. Fortunately, she had a good reason, otherwise these crow tribe demons might not be willing to take the risk.
Purple light flashed in her eyes again. There was a bit of nervousness there.
Just what was hidden there? Could it be what she was looking for?
If it was true, then these crow demons were just walking to their death. But none of that mattered. They were just a lowly clan. If they died they died, what did that have to do with her?
As long as she determined that what she was looking for was there, she had a way to obtain it.
Thinking of this, her nervous eyes began to shine with a bit of anticipation.
“Move!”
With a roar, over a dozen brave crow clan warriors stepped into the blowing sand and stone.
They were all experienced warriors. As they moved, the sounds they emitted blended in perfectly with the flying debris in the air.
Soon, the unique blood scent of the demon beasts reached their noses. The crow clan warriors that stepped into this hell all revealed intense expressions.
There were too many corpses and they were all torn into pieces. The corpses covered the ground as far as they could see and dyed the earth black.
As they entered deeper, their eyes started to reveal alarm and fear. Because amongst the ruined corpses they saw many astonishingly strong demon beasts.
Scaled abyssal wolf. It was a type of hunter that was formidable and quick. Their claws were especially sharp and even leather armor crafted from the hide of demon beasts would find them difficult to resist.
But now, half a wolf corpse had been thrown to the ground. From how far it was buried in the sand it had been dead for at least two days. Its broken claws and limbs could still be clearly seen.

Spotted demon snake. This was a creature whose body was covered in different colored scales. It was a horrifically ugly snake, and the longer it survived, the more colors would appear on the scales’ surface.
This scaled demon snake had been torn into several pieces. Looking at it, one could see that there were seven or eight colors, meaning that it had lived for at least 300 years. It was extremely strong and at least ten crow clan warriors would be needed to bring it down. And it would be difficult to avoid taking some casualties in the process.
There were other terrifying creatures such as the groundbreaker beast, eight-legged blood boar, and black steel spider. In particular, the latter had an incomparably hard body. Even sharp weapons would find it hard to break through its shell, but it was now dismembered into pieces without a single complete piece.
Gulp –
The crow clan warriors gulped. The red color in their eyes faded away and the courage they possessed just moments ago had all but vanished.
Standing here and looking up, they could barely make out the outline of a low mountain peak. All of the demon beast corpses were distributed around this mountain peak. Without accident, that demon beast that came out from deeper in the abyss was likely lurking inside.
However, even though their goal was close at hand, none of them had the courage to continue forward.
Those that came today were the strongest warriors of their clan. Jiao Li was also the son of the Patriarch and had a holy artifact that possessed great strength. But in the face of such a terrifying demon beast, these crow clan warriors still lacked any and all confidence.
If these crow clan warriors knew that the corpse of a dark thunder demon lion was here not too long ago, they would have turned their heads and fled.
That was a dark thunder demon lion. A trace of the demon dragon bloodline flowed within them and they had an infinite potential for growth. They were themselves incomparably strong demon beasts that could reach the 10,000 beast level!
The purple-robed woman followed close behind. As she made her way forward, the purple light in her eyes grew deeper. At this time, something flickered in her mind and her nostrils flared out. Her eyes widened with shock.
This place was covered in demon beast corpses and their stench stung the nose. But, she could still smell a very unique smell. It wasn’t strong, but it carried with it a special characteristic that dove straight into the mind. It instantly detonated all of the desire in her heart.
Fine scales quickly emerged from her skin. They were translucent like polished crystals, covering her face.
There wasn’t much ferocity in her appearance and she even gave off a strange and different type of beauty, like a maiden carved from crystal.
Her purple eyes stared straight at the low mountain. She could even see the pitch black hole. Her intuition told her that the source of the smell was in that cave…but what a pity, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t catch that smell anymore.
Even so, her instincts told her that no matter where this smell came from, she had to obtain it!
“Brave crow clan warriors, you are born not knowing fear and you possess the ability to tear apart even the hardest defenses, ripping down everything that stands in your path! Now is the time to expose your great strength!” A cold voice came from beneath the long robes. Each syllable was cold but contained a formidable ability to fascinate and mislead.
The hesitation and fear in Jiao Li’s eyes quickly faded away. He felt that this woman behind him was incomparably important to him, and to protect her he was willing to sacrifice everything.
He lifted a hand and demonic energy surged. A black leather drum appeared. Its surface was worn and the patterns that decorated it had become blurred.
But as it appeared, the surrounding abyssal energy seemed to have been attracted. It started to gather in from all sides.
Gathering and condensing!
Woo –
Woo –
A figure appeared within the abyssal energy. It was a strange demon beast with eyes so red that they seemed soaked in blood. It stared at the cave and growled.
“Go!”
Jiao Li shouted out loud. He ruthlessly struck the drum in his hands. Although no sound came out, the blood-eyed demon beast phantom within the abyssal energy seemed as if it received an overwhelming order. It rushed straight towards the cave.
Bang –
There was a dull ringing sound as if a mountain had crashed down from the skies and struck the earth.
The blood-eyed demon beast phantom broke apart like a bubble and dissipated.
The abyssal energy that formed its body collapsed and shot out in all directions. It formed a circular impact that swept away all the flying sand and stone between the heavens and earth, turning this area blank for a moment.
The drum in Jiao Li’s hands split apart. Those around him could hear a cry of despair.
Then, he spat out a mouthful of blood. His spirits immediately languished and the resolve and courage in his eyes deflated like a popped rubber ball. All that was left was fear.
The crow clan warriors all widened their eyes as they saw a figure walk out from the cave. This person wasn’t too tall, and compared to them, they were much larger and sturdier
But now, the aura this figure emitted caused them to feel endless fear…as if they were facing a hunter that stood at the apex of the food chain. With just a glance, he could kill them all.
