"Circadian Manipulation"
*MMMMMMMMM*
Supreme darkness descended upon the entire church. Everything under his domain went dark. It was the perfect opportunity to even alert Everzone and Noctis, but Night's main goal was to escape to the outside of the church.
'I have only half the mana bar.....I should get away quick...' thoughts ran through his mind as he rushed out of the church. Running away wasn't his style but at the same time, losing wasn't his style as well.
"W-what's going on? Is this your doing??? Impossible...A dark element user who's capable of this? A d-demon....yes that's it. That explains your movement! Haha, perfect, let me expunge you, you filthy mongrel,"
"...."
There was no reply. The only sound that entered the Pope's ears was the sound of pandemonium breaking loose. The other followers were frightened and confused as to what happened. The entire church was under Night's darkness, after all, everything inside and outside was just darkness.
-Don't let Noctis escape, I'm coming out, and be prepared. Both of you. We have an issue.
It was a message from Night. Everzone and Noctis were outside the church when Night used his domain skill and darkness descended. While Everzone was worried as to what happened, Noctis was on all four. His ears were perked up and his eyes were glowing. It goes without saying that Night wasn't the only one who could see in the dark, both his subjects were capable of that.
-Alright, I understand.
It was the only reply that SHOULD be sent. Asking a question in such a situation was pointless, after all, it would just distract Night and probably make him worry more. However, the issue lied in holding back Noctis. The owl-dragon was absolutely relentless once he recognized his Masters very own domain. Until Everzone mentioned Night's name, Noctis was restless. At one point Noctis even threatened to use Chaos blast on Everzone.
"Finally...." Everzone muttered after feeling Noctis reluctantly calm down, "I should tell Senior Nate about what's happening,"
Thankfully he caught Noctis before he flew away from his head. There's absolutely no way he could ever catch the owl-dragon in this darkness. Fortunately, it didn't take too long for Night to abruptly arrive by their side, leaving Everzone was more startled than he would like to admit.
The second Night arrived, he turned off his domain, once again letting the light of nature shine upon the church. He was drenched in sweat and had blood dripping from his mouth, however, he couldn't help but chuckle when he saw how Everzone reacted.

"Haha, you should get used to this, also we should get outta here," Night panted as Noctis jumped onto his shoulder and licked his cheek. Noctis's eyes turned to a familiar color when he saw the condition Night was in.
"Not now buddy, I'm alright, we need to move, for now, let's go," Night said as he turned around and prepared to escape. "The guy's a level two hundred NPC it's going to be fckin har-"
*BOOOOOOOOOM*
"I congratulate you for somehow escaping. You're certainly someone that cannot be left alone. Oh my, look at me trying to reason with a demon spawn. You and your filthy friend shall die a stupid death together..." the Pope's eyes narrowed, they fell upon Noctis who was glaring right back into his soul, "ahhh, I see so that's your demon beast, it all makes sense now."
Pope Moonstar was literally in the air when he spoke to Night, Everzone and Noctis. His hands were slightly spread apart and his eyes had a slight glow in them as they reflected the rays of the sun that seemed unusually bright.
"Let me guess, this world doesn't know true pain?" Night replied as he looked up. They were late once again, except this time it was a do-or-die situation. However, the plus side is that Night had Everzone and Noctis, and since they were outside the church the buffs of the Pope would be stripped away as well.
"Pfftt..." Everzone let out a slight chuckle after hearing what Night said.
"I don't understand what you say or what you've been saying if I'm being honest, but sure I don't expect little kids like you to understand anything about pain," the Pope replied as he slowly lowered himself to the ground. "Tell me, what do you know about this world?"
"..."
"..."
"Ah come on, aren't you with the Royal Family? I assumed you would be more knowledgeable than this but it seems disappointment is all I'm met with, tch"
'How the fck do I tell this computerized pedophile that we don't know shit about THIS world, fck it, when it doubt pull out the ultimate card,' Night wasn't hesitating because he lacked the knowledge, in fact, he took pride in the fact that he was street smart.
"I'm assuming it revolves around the Goddess Artemis?"

"Hoho, you're not wrong, it seems you're quite smart," the Pope wasn't convinced that Night didn't belong to the Royal Family. If he was being honest the only reason he held onto that belief was due to his desire to overthrow them. If the word that the Royal Family took in a demon got out then it would certainly be horrible. "however, you don't deserve to know the truth behind that. A filthy demon like you should just die,"
"Holy Mother of Chastity, Bless me and Guide me for I must expunge this stain,"
"The Will of The Huntress"
The golden glow in his hand got brighter and the smell of red amaranth got stronger, the Pope was slightly buffer than before, veins popped out of his skin, his muscles looked more defined and his eyes were a few shades duller than Eve's.
At the same time, an entire group of followers appeared right next to him, they looked like the only capable ones and perhaps the only ones that wouldn't die from the aftermath of the battle. All of them stood right behind him and began chanting. None of them stepped forward and every single one of them focused on supporting the Pope.
"Haaaah, this power," the Pope said as he let out a sigh of satisfaction. "Do you perhaps ever stop to think what such power would feel like? You must right?"
It was just a simple bluff that would never work on any sensible player. Night simple nodded in response to the question, it was almost s if he hadn't heard a single word and focused only on killing the Pope.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with Everzone, he wasn't as strong as Night and he was constantly reminded of that fact. He never felt worthy in the first place. Why did he choose me? What about the others?
'I don't deserve his kindness...if only I had the power to repay him...if only'
Night noticed the weird expression on Everzone, he was somewhat dull but he looked contemplated. This was no time for something to go wrong. However, Night quickly spotted what was wrong. It was a familiar glow, the same as the one in Pope Moonstar.
"You're tricking him..."
"Good eye! I'm surprised it had no effect on you. Guess you must be a high-ranking demon huh?" the Pope asked he tore away his top, revealing an extremely shredded body. "You see as the Ultimate Huntress's followers it's only right that we treat prey as prey. It's funnier when they're in an illusion. Kukukuku"
"You fckin bastard!" Night growled as he shot Pope Moonstar a deadly look.
"Woah! Hey! Blame your friend for being weak-willed. He literally broke in a second, I wonder why?"
"........"
'Ah....what do I do. I hate this, I hate relying on others. I hate feeling weak, I hate feeling hopeless, I hate doing nothing...Am I really not strong enough to beat him? Huh, it seems stats really do change the game....'
"Let me guess, you want me to release your friend and you'll submit yourself with any issue?" Moonstar let out a hearty chuckle, "well that would make things easier....unfortunately, even I can't get him out of that, the only way it ends is if....well.. IF the spell caster dies, and let's be honest that's not happening any time soon kuku"
"So I have to kill you huh?" Night said as he checked how much mana he had left, "okay.."
The words of his master were constantly ringing through his head. 'You rely on your instincts too much...', ever since Noel mentioned that he brought his martial arts down a notch. After all, a Grandmaster is someone who specializes in a variety of weapons.
"I'm sorry Master...." Night let out in a low voice as he looked up into the sky. The sunlight highlighting the blood on his body as well as the fatigued state he was in. Noctis was still waiting for his master's response.
"What was that?"
"Shut, it," Night replied as he stumbled towards the Pope, he unequipped all his weapons and continued, "Noctis, buddy, do me a favor and take care of the ones at the back okay? I got this dude..."
"I'm sorry Master..." Night said as he looked at Noctis fly into the sky.
"I'm relying on my instincts again..."

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.
