Chasing After My Wife Chapter 439

Later that afternoon, Jade came to visit with Riley holding her. She was carrying a cute Hello Kitty backpack with several things inside like, baby powder, face towel, water bottle, snacks, coloring books, crayons, pencils and other stuff.
"Hi mommy. Hi daddy." Jade greeted them enthusiastically as she ran with her two small feet towards Jillyanna.
"Hello sweetheart. How have you been doing at home?" she asked her daughter while taking off the bag off her shoulders.
"I am good. Yesterday, Auntie Riley and Auntie Jackie brought me to a big big super big mall. They bought so many many things for me. I don't know if I could even use all of them." Jade narrated to her mother what recently happened to her. "And you know what mom, I found Uncle Shein funny. He told Auntie Riley this morning that he was digging dirt last night until dawn. Isn't he supposed to that during daytime?"
Travis who had been listening while doing his work couldn't help himself but cover his mouth to muffle his laughter. It was just hilarious! "Right, your Uncle Shein has a weird hobby." He stated with faint chuckle. "Don't mind him."
Jillyanna didn't know if he should feel sorry for Shein or if she should laugh at him, too. In the end, she could only smile and explain to the little girl. "Your Uncle Shein has a very weird job but he is really good. Don't think too much about it, 'kay? You will understand his work in the future."
"I don't really mind." Jade opened her bag and took out three pieces of chocolates. She gave one to Jillyanna and one to Travis. "We bought this yesterday and it tastes really good. I am sharing this with you. I gave some to Uncle Hawk already."

Travis gently pat the girl's head to compliment her. "Our little Jade is very generous. Thank you for this."
"You're welcome." she walked back to Jillyanna and took out her small notebook. "Look at this mom." She showed her a page full of her first name. "Auntie Riley taught me this morning."
"This morning?" Jillyanna was quite surprise. Base on her handwriting alone, she can see the rapid improvement of her penmanship.
Riley stood up and shared what she found. "You always find a treasure my big sister! Jade is very smart. I thought her the alphabet song and she memorized it after three times. Come on Jade, sing the alphabet song to your mother and father."
Jade drank a mouthful of water first and cleared her throat. "A, B, C, D, E, F..." she finished the whole song without making any mistakes. Her pronunciation was very clear, too.
"That was amazing!" Hawk was clapping his hands at the door. Jillyanna, Travis and Riley were doing the same. They were giving her a round of applause.
"You did a great job little princess. What else do you know?" Travis asked her from his work desk.
"I know how to count. 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5....100. I don't know what's next to 100." she humbly stated with a little pout on her lips.
"Our little princess is really smart. That is thanks to your real mother." Jillyanna would never take credit of something she doesn't own. It was still thanks to her real mother that she found a real treasure.
"Hn. My mother was really smart. She would always sing us to sleep. She can cook, do the laundry, wash the dishes - she can do a lot since my father left. I don't even remember my father. He never visited us even after my mother died."

"Speaking of your father," Jillyanna turned towards Travis before shifting her eyes back to the little girl. "If, I mean if, if your father comes back and wants to take you, will you go to your father?"
"No."
"What if your father owns a big house, has lots of money and can buy lots of things for you?"
"I won't go. You give me a big house with so many people. I have friends in the orphanage that I can visit when I am with you. Auntie Riley and Auntie Jackie bought me lots of things already. And I will have a baby brother soon. I won't go."
"But he is your REAL father." she gave emphasis to the word real to let her understand the weight of her biological parent.
Jade's eyes turned red and she was about to cry. "I don't want to go. I don't want to know if he is rich. I would only get angry at him. If he has a lot of money, why did he let my mother die? My mother had to work very hard just for us to survive day after day. If he has a lot of money, he should've at least sent my mother to the hospital! What kind of father is he? What kind of husband is he? I don't want a father like him?!" Her tears started rolling down her face as she spoke. "Mom, don't send me to him. I don't want another father."
Jillyanna hugged the child tightly in her arms. "Mommy won't send you to him. I was just asking for your opinion. I don't want to send you as well. Stop crying now."
"You won't really give me to him?" Jade experienced so many difficulties in life before finally ending up in the orphanage. Right now, she needed reassurance that she wouldn't be abandon again.
"Mommy and Daddy won't give you to someone else. We will all be sad if you go far away."
Seeing that Jillyanna was being honest to her, Jade finally stopped crying. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and smiled again.
"I am already happy with my new family."
"We are happy, too." Riley spoke and grabbed her for a warm hug. "We won't let you go our little princess."
Jade giggled in Riley's arms. She was certainly and genuinely happy with them. Although Jillyanna and Travis were in the same room, she still sent him a text to make sure that the little girl won't hear them.
"Do whatever you can to keep our baby." This was her message to him.
"Yes, my Queen."
Jillyanna chuckled at his response and threw him a smile.

The Perks of Immortality
This story will no longer be updated. After living decades and dying hundreds of times, Kegan has learned that he has finally passed some test that the cruel spirit had given him. Now, Kegan has the ability to gain “perks” that can make his life much easier. He is looking forward to finally having an easy life with the new perks he has earned. Rules to keep me honest for the perk system: Spoiler: Spoiler 1. The purpose of perks is to help the MC live longer and do new things each life. 2. The perks can be unlocked by getting hurt or killed. 3. The perks can be unlocked by putting in a lot of effort that isn’t easily duplicated in a new life. 4. Perks are generally beneficial enhancements to the MC’s body. 5. Perk costs can be lowered with more impressive achievements to unlock them. 6. Perk costs can be lowered by repeated death or injury from something the perk protects against. 7. Perk costs are increased for quality of life improvements that don’t benefit survival. I want to avoid one of the pitfalls I see for other LitRPG stories where the game elements barely relate to the story, or offer very little information. If people are skipping over and not reading the perks then I'm doing things wrong. So I promise to try and make the perks interesting, sometimes humorous, informative, and relevant to the story.Cover art by http://dertypaws.com/

She who rules the stars with steel eyes and an iron will, the glorious, the beautiful, the adored Goddess, has now fallen under the hands of her nemesis… The Archfiend, Emperor of Talonis, the nation of Vice and its Shadows, has now assumed reign over Stalera after the death of the Goddess. With the power of Vice, its Shadows, and the Universe, it is assumed that he would be satisfied now that Stalera was under his mercy, and the other two nations of Yelerna and Antalis would follow suit. But much to our surprise, he isn’t because he still lacks the… Ruby, The Goddess’ last attempt to save her empire and the entirety of the Universe. Before her death, the Goddess sealed a portion of her blood, which contained the remaining powers of the Universe the Archfiend hadn’t obtained, away from his grasp. She entrusted it to one of her Zodiac Warriors, a member of her elite service known as the Zodiac Warrior Circle, and instructed him to hide the precious jewel on Earth. The restoration of Stalera and the defeat of the Archfiend would lie in the hands of whoever inherited the ruby jewel. Those who inherited the ruby were known as the Goddess’ Successor, and the one next in line to inherit it is… Auriella Corentin. Life was never the same for Auriella the night her Grandmama gave her the ruby jewel and died, thrusting the poor girl into a world of magic. Now in possession of the Goddess’ blood, it wouldn’t be long until the Archfiend found her, killed her, and obtained her ruby inheritance. But Auriella never wanted this responsibility, not when she had her own past and inner demons to battle against. Nevertheless, she finds herself seeking an alliance with the Zodiac Warriors and a strange barista as she learns to wield the powers the Goddess bestowed to her. But as frequent demon attacks, a secret admirer (or stalker), strange notes, and a handsome, amber-eyed boy pile onto her plate, it is no longer clear whether the universe needed Auriella to be their savior or to be the Goddess’ (inferior) replacement. A Goddess in need of redemption. Four Nations at the brink of destruction. Our question still remains unanswered… What will become of us? [Updates Monday, Wednesday, Friday @8pm PST]
