Chasing After My Wife Chapter 285

"Who did you say is old? Me? I'm just 24 years old!" Vincent argued back, trying to defend himself from the accusation about his age.
"You're 5 years older than me." Jackie informed him which stunned Vincent to the core of his being.
He was often told that he was the youngest warden in the whole city and the smartest one at that. Now, that he fell in love, the woman was telling him that he's old. Older than 5 years!
"Can you not give emphasis to the gap of our age?" Vincent found a rock and sat on it while watching Jackie few meters away from him. "I'm not really that old, am I?"
"You..you are. so get lost and stop hanging around with me. You'll make me look old, too."
Vincent was deeply hurt with her words. It was the first time that he likes someone and he only ruined his chance because he annoyed her.
"I see. I'm sorry once again for annoying you." Vincent stood up from his seat and walked towards her but Jackie turned her back on him and ignored him.
What she didn't expect was a warm coat placed over her shoulders to keep her warm. "I'll go back now. I won't bother you anymore." Vincent turned around and left her alone with his coat draped over Jackie's shoulders.
"I don't need your coat! Get back here and take this with you!" Jackie yelled, her voice echoed in the darkness, disturbing the fireflies and the crickets. No matter how angry she was, Vincent didn't listen to her and kept on walking. "Did I hurt him? Well, whatever! I won't see him again anyway."
Jackie waited for Shein in the middle of the night with just the bright moon illuminating her lone figure. She clutched on to the coat when the wind blew and caressed her face. It was cold.

"He is an idiot." Jackie murmured to herself while looking up at the moon above her. "Please guide him back to the building."
After another ten minutes, Shein came with Lucian to pick her up. "Aren't you cold? Why didn't you wait for us in the building?" Shein was worried for her knowing that she'd easily catch a cold. Despite her strength and agility, Jackie actually has a weak immune system. That was why Jillyanna don't want to give her so much work. That was why she was only tasked to supervise the new employees. She can't fight for too long either because she'll have an over fatigue after two hours of fighting.
"It's a long story." Jackie stated before she got inside the car.
Several meters from where they stood, Vincent was watching her talk to Lucian and Shein. He was hiding behind a big tree to see her off safely. "If you turn around, I'll give myself a second chance to pursue you." he whispered to himself. To his disappointment, Jackie didn't look back at all. She boarded the car immediately.
When Vincent walked away from the big tree where he was hiding, Jackie turned back just in time to see a lone figure walking back to the vicinity. His back looked lonely and distraught.
"A criminal and an officer, they won't have a happy ending." Jackie murmured to herself, holding on to the coat that was giving her warmth in this cold world.
"You're saying something?" Shein asked upon seeing the faint movement of her lips and the sad expression on her face.
"I was saying that you are so late! I waited for quite awhile and mosquitoes bit me that I'm blotted already!"
Shein covered his ears from the earful he got from Jackie. "Sorry. I was a bit busy in my end, too."

Jackie shut her herself and stared outside the window. She didn't speak until they arrived at the rented house. "Thank you for sending us home Officer Seville." Jackie bowed deeply to express her gratitude.
"No worries. I'm glad you are safe. Let me talk to Vincent once again. I know how important this is to Jillyanna so I want to help you guys, too."
"No, but thanks. I can handle this matter by myself. Don't worry about this."
"Alright. If you need help, just let me know. I'll leave now." Lucian drove his car and left the two of them. When they got home, Riley was waiting for them in the living room.
"Sis, are you alright? Did something happen? Why didn't you tell me?" Riley asked her in worry but she didn't even glance towards her boyfriend. She was still upset.
Jackie gently pat her sister's head. "I'm fine. Sorry for worrying you. I just failed my mission this time but I'll take action again after two days."
"But, how will you enter the place?"
"Just like how I entered different places before." Jackie replied. "Leave me alone for awhile. I need to think about this."
"Okay." Riley reluctantly agreed as she watched her twin sister leave to get inside her room. When she sat on the couch again, Shein sat beside her as well.
"I picked up Jackie."
"Wasn't it your job to find our track? What's surprising about that?"
"Riri, are you still angry? I'm really sorry. I didn't really mean to answer you that way." Shein looked sincere with his apology but Riley's heart wasn't a quick-melt cheese. She won't change her heart that quickly.
She rolled her eyes and stood up to leave as well. She didn't want to see him or think about him for the time being because she'd be pissed off.
"Leave me alone. Reflect on your mistake and don't talk to me for a week." Riley stated and left.
Shein smiled at her silly request. Don't talk for a week? If he would really do that, she won't talk to him for a year perhaps. When she said don't, it was the exact opposite. When she said do it, then you shouldn't do it. In several circumstances, after how many years of being together, Shein knew what kind of person his girlfriend was.
Just like any other woman, she liked to be coaxed as well. Sadly, it would really take a long time before they'd make up. In fact, he could count in one hand the times that they fought. And whenever that happened, they won't talk for weeks and even a month.
"Riri, I will still love you no matter how sulky you are." Shein yelled, not sure if she heard him.
"Shut up, idiot!"
