Chasing After My Wife Chapter 276

Winter went out of the room to find their teacher who was actually drinking tea inside the secluded pavilion at the back garden.
"You're leaving?" her teacher asked her calmly as if she expected it to happen.
"Hn. I've got things to do and Jillyanna's fine now."
"Have a safe trip."
Winter didn't wait any second longer and ran down the mountain to find a vehicle to board. She knew she still needed to walk a little farther to find the bus stop.
She slung her bag on her back and jogged for a few minutes. She finally found the bus stop but there wasn't anyone who's waiting there except herself.
The night wind was cold, breezing past her face and blowing her hair away. She was feeling guilty again. Now that she's alone, the guilt intensified and she felt so horrible.
Memories flashed across her mind. A young girl and boy carving their names on a tree bark to seal their promise.
"When I grow big, I will protect you with my life. I won't let anything to happen to you." Gabriel told her while he placed his left hand on his chest, looking so serious with his oath.
"When I grow up, I won't marry anyone else but you. If anyone steals you from me, I will tear them apart." Winter responded while looking at the boy with a smile. "You better not like someone else."
Another memory was when she argued with Travis and Gabriel came to her rescue.
"RV, you don't have to be so cold towards your cousin just because she broke a string of your violin. No matter how precious that thing is, you can buy another violin if it's broken but you can't buy another cousin if she's broken."

"I don't want a cousin! I just wan't Jill!"
"Jill this and Jill that! We don't even know her. If you don't want your cousin, then I'll take her away."
Gabriel carried her on his back and they went to the farm, escaping from Travis and their mistake. They spent so much time together, planting mango trees and catching the chickens. They even rode on a horse with the help of the farmers.
So much for the happy memories, Winter remembered the time she woke in the hospital with Travis on the other bed.
She saw a boy who was sleeping on the couch, exhausted and tired obviously. Probably feeling that someone was looking at him, he opened his eyes and looked back to her.
"Are you okay?" he asked her in so much worry but her question rendered him speechless.
"Who are you? Are guarding us here?"
Remembering her first question when she woke up Winter felt a tight grip in her heart. It was so tight that she had a hard time breathing.
'How did he feel when I asked him that question? How did he feel that I chose to forget him along with the unpleasant memories? How did her feel that I refused to remember him over and over again? How did he feel that I loved someone else after making that promise to him? Was he sad? Was he regretful? Did he resent me? Did he feel bad about it?'
She's got so many questions but not a single answer came. No one knew the answer aside from the man who finally chose to give up his life.
Her tears started falling from the surge of pain and guilt. She stood under the waiting shed, silently crying her heart out in the middle of the night.

Not long after, the bus came and Winter boarded on it immediately. She needed to get back to the military base as quickly as she can.
Her phone rang and Brown's name was flashing on her phone screen. She wiped her tears away before answering the call.
"Winter, do you have any idea where Jillyanna is?" he asked without any further nuances.
"Hn. We were together just a while ago. I'm on my way to the military camp and Jillyanna will be home after three days."
"Three days?!" Brown exclaimed in surprise because he thought she'd be gone for just a day or two but, after three days? He didn't know she could endure that much without seeing Travis.
On the side, Travis was observing everyone in the room. They were all unfamiliar to him except for Savannah, Hawk and Shein, whom he saw when he woke up before.
Even though Travis had recovered from the accident, they all had a solemn faces because he forget all of them. He didn't even look for Jillyanna or mentioned her. They were all worried.
Brown returned inside the room, finding everyone's eyes on him since he was the one who luckily got in touch with Winter. "Positive. Jillyanna and Winter were together earlier but she said she'll have to go back to the military camp and Jillyanna will be back after three days."
"Who's Winter?" Travis asked Brown who just came back.
"Winter is your cousin." Brown answered. 'Weird. Why isn't he asking about Jillyanna?' Brown asked himself mentally while throwing glances towards Travis.
"Where is my phone?" Travis asked again after a few seconds. He looked so bored while talking to them and he didn't find anyone interesting at all. However, he can sense the danger from them at the same time he knew they were kind because they took care of him and they didn't stress him out with questions.
Savannah pinched the space between her eyebrows with this question. Ever since the accident happened, Jillyanna always bring Travis' phone with her no matter where she goes.
"Jillyanna currently have your phone. You'll get it when she's back."
"I see. Can I have a laptop?"
Shein who always bring his laptop with him offered the gadget to Travis. "You can borrow mine."
"I don't want to borrow anything from you." Travis spoke to him coldly which surprised everyone except Savannah. She knew exactly why he was holding a grudge over him.
"Then don't. No one here brought a laptop except me. Even if I know where my sister is, I won't tell you."
"I didn't know she has a brother." Travis sneered.
"I didn't even know that she has a stubborn husband who likes to sulk." Shein argued back, disregarding the fact that he was arguing to a patient who was actually older than him.
