Chasing After My Wife Chapter 234

The nun smiled faintly. She didn't know that even under her long dress, young Evan would still know she was wounded.
"Can you look after these books? I will get some wet cloth." he told the nun, his big brown eyes held his worry and concern for both the books and the nun.
"Hn. I will be staying here with the books."
Evan ran towards the side of the orphanage which wasn't caught by the fire. There were blankets and towels which they hang that morning so he got one of them and cut it into strips.
He also found a small pale and he put a tap water on it from the garden hose he found. He brought everything back and wiped the wound with the wet cloth.
It wasn't a deep wound but it was long; and since the librarian caught it from a sharp broken wood there were some small splinters on the wound.
Evan ran back to Dr. Anderson's side once again. "Do you have tweezers? Can I borrow it as well?"
Dr. Anderson caught interest of him and gave one of his tweezers. Evan took it and ran back to the wounded nun. After cleaning the wound, he removed the small debris and cleaned it again to make sure that nothing was left. He put the ointment and wrapped the wound with the gauze to make sure that it won't be infected.
"Do you want to become a doctor?" Dr. Anderson asked Evan when he was done dressing the wound. Evan looked up to him and returned the things he borrowed.
"Thank you for letting me use your things but I cannot become a doctor. I am an orphan and I don't have money to go to school." Young Evan answered with his clear and big brown eyes.

"How about you come with me? I will take you home with me and study under my care?"
The nun as well Evan looked at him in surprise. They were both speechless and amazed at him. It was the nun who snapped back to reality first and stood up abruptly.
"Are you sure doc? Are you really going to take him in? This child has a lot of potential and I believe he'd become a great doctor. We just didn't have enough funds to send him to school."
"If he is willing, I would be happy. My own son didn't want to become a doctor and I need someone who I can pass my knowledge on." Dr. Anderson answered.
The nun was happy to hear him say those words and immediately agreed to help them process their papers to legally adopt Evan. She want him to find his worth and become a good doctor. It would be bad if they turned his offer down.
Dr. Anderson brought him home and changed his last name to his. He introduced him to Matthew, his son, and enrolled him to school. Since he started late, he was taken to specialize school to finish all the basic years before he can join the middle school. Whenever he studied at home, Matthew was asked to tutor him.
At first, they were getting along. They would talk about different things but they would never speak about anything related to medical field because Matthew didn't like it.
But one time...
"Why do you hate becoming a doctor? That is a wonderful job and you can help many people." Evan told him one time when he was studying his notes for biology class.
Matthew was lying down on the couch, his right arm was placed under his head as a pillow and the other hand was placed over his eyes to cover them.

"I just don't like it. Doctors spend most of their times with their patients or with their research. In the end, they would forget or ignore their family."
"Is it the medical field you hated or is it your parents?"
Matthew didn't answer his question instead, he removed his hand from covering his eyes and reached over to Evan's head, messing it with a smile on his lips.
"Once you become a doctor, don't forget about me." Those were his words before things changed between them.
Not long after, Matthew argued with his father and stopped going to school. He left home and joined the military when he just reached the legal age. Evan didn't know what was the reason though.
And that fateful encounter led them to where he was after a decade of hardwork and perseverance. However, guilt was starting to chew his heart when he fell in love to Dr. Anderson's one and only son.
"Why are you spacing out?" Valkyrie asked Brown when he didn't return after getting a cup of tea for Dr. Anderson. He was still standing near at the kitchen sink, looking lost and confused.
Brown turned his head and faced him with a faint smile. "I just remembered the past." He picked up a tea cup from the cupboard and poured the freshly brewed tea on it. "I'll give this to your father."
An idea suddenly popped out of Valkyrie's mind that made him smile. Since his father came to see them, he will just grab the opportunity. He went inside his own room and took out the watch he bought over a week ago.
"Evan, can you leave us for a while?" Valkyrie asked him when he got back with a gift.
Brown raised his eyebrow towards him but he still left and went inside his room. Whatever it is that they want to talk about, it has nothing to do with him.
Dr. Anderson just watched the two men in front of him. He was sure about his son's preference but he couldn't be sure of how Evan was feeling. Since he liked Brown like his own child, he wouldn't allow anyone to compromise his life - not even his own son could.
When Brown left the two of them, Valkyrie sat on the couch opposite his father. He placed the gift on the table and pushed it lightly. "That's my gift."

Enigma's Multiverse: Rewrite
This novel was rewritten with the following goals in mind: -A 'human' MC, that struggles underneath the weight of his past emotions and slowly grows as a person as he deals with past trauma and regret. A relatable protagonist whose actions are in line with his motivations, who may be amiable or ruthless depending on the stakes presented. (Caucasian male protagonist, set in the modern world with alien 'induction' into the cultivation world.) - Competent antagonists that have their own goals and ambitions, instead of always targeting the MC for plot convenience. - An original cultivation system. - Interesting and well fleshed out enemy archetypes. - Hell mode challenge right off the bat. - Lots of action and fighting with psychological elements. - My vision of what a cultivation novel should be like. This is the rewrite of the original Enigma's Multiverse, the first version reads more like a skeleton or a first draft as it was my very first work and I've come a long way since then. A lot of things from the original will be tweaked/enhanced, so it might just end up as a completely different work. Cover Credits- Instagram @just_anime_art_things
