Chasing After My Wife Chapter 176

Savannah turned around abruptly to see who bumped her but the person didn't even stop to apologize. She just let it go but she etched the disappearing back deeply in her mind.
"Are you alright?" her classmate asked her.
"I'm fine. No worries." She put her phone on her back pocket and continued walking with her classmate. "Will you be taking the same subject as me for the next class?"
"Nope. I will be taking a different class and the department will be next to the Science building." the man answered. "I'm David, by the way."
"Thanks for helping me out David." she replied coyly beside him. The man just smiled at her and didn't say anything.
"Why did you come back to school now that there are murders and kidnapping cases involving our school?" he asked her again.
Savannah just snickered arrogantly at him. "Why not? It's not like I'll be the next victim. I will be picked up from school when it's time to go home. I really have to finish my course or the headmaster will no longer give me another chance."
"You know the headmaster?"
"Uh huh. He is sort of an uncle to me." Savannah lied with a straight face. However, the man beside her just chuckled at her. She stopped for a moment and observed him. 'My cover couldn't have been blown right?' she thought to herself worriedly.
The man tried his best to stop laughing and leaned closer to her. She pushed his chest a little to put a little bit of distance between them. "I know why you're here. No need to lie with me."
"What the?!" Without a warning, Savannah had one of her hands at the back of his neck. To other students who were watching them, it looked she was flirting with the guy, only the guy knew how painful his neck was. "Don't mess up with me. Who are you?"

"I am same as you. Can we talk nicely?" the man named David tried to compromise. Savannah let him go and even fixed the collar of his polo shirt. They looked good together but a certain someone kept reminding her to avoid hooking up with other men - it was Valkyrie. He could hear all the words they exchange and so was Hawk.
"Savy, dark clouds are hovering his face. I am starting to regret agreeing to this decision." Valkyrie spouted nonsense again while throwing glances at Hawk.
Savannah sighed and chose to ignore him. David showed her a message on his phone to go over the library to talk. She followed him silently under the obvious stares of jealousy from both men and women.
When they arrived at the library, Savannah picked up some random books as well as David. They chose to sit in a corner where they can see the whole student in side the library.
"I saw you one time with Lucian's sister-in-law." David opened up when they sat on their chosen seat.
"You mean Jillyanna?"
"Hn. I think it was the time after she was kidnapped."
"You are sharp." Savannah commented.
"How did you know about 'it'? They both knew that the 'it' they were talking about was her cover.
"I was just wondering why Jillyanna's friend would be here in this campus knowing that everything's messy."
"Right. I am sure the criminals know why I am here, too." Savannah mocked herself. "But that doesn't matter. I will be fine. I will catch them soon. Why are you handling this by the way? It had been sent to our hands already."
"Intel."
"I see. Thanks for your help with the information."
"No problem." David smiled sweetly to the woman who passed by their table.

"Have you noticed someone suspicious in this campus?" she asked him while flipping through the books.
"I have someone I'm keeping my eyes on."
"Who?"
"The person who bumped with you earlier."
Savannah smiled and nodded her head. "I was rather suspicious of him too." she agreed. "That person reeked of blood and other things."
"Right. However, I have a hunch that there are several suspects."
"There are. We've seen them come and go their hiding place but we can't act yet. We needed to remove them from their roots." Savannah stated.
"One of my teammates said that one of the suspects may be a girl with one of her fingers crippled or cut out."
"Really? I saw one of the chef in the cafeteria with one of her fingers missing. She looked really pretty though."
"My teammate said that she should be pretty. I'll take a look at her later. Bring me to the cafeteria, will you?"
"Sure no problem." David agreed to her immediately.
"Don't fall in love with me. I'm taken." Savannah stated which stunned the person opposite her.
He was clearly taken aback but there's no way she'd take her words back. It was the only way she knew to pacify someone who had been listening to their conversation since earlier.
"Don't worry, I don't plan on cheating with my girlfriend as well." He responded as he reached his hand over and messed up her hair. "Let your guy know that I am not planning to steal you."
They discussed different things while observing the people around them. They also ate their lunch together for her to see the lady in the cafeteria.
"I'll treat you since you don't have your student card yet." David said and brought her over to order their food.
David whispered to her while he pointed at the menu but his words were describing the beautiful lady who was serving the food behind the glass panel.
Savannah confirmed that her hand was indeed missing a finger but they couldn't judge her without any solid proof.
David took the tray containing their food and led her to a vacant table. Students were watching them and Savannah showed them her sweet smile. She needed to look friendly and arrogant at the same time. That's what Valkyrie told her. 'And how exactly should I do that?!' she exclaimed mentally while taking her share of food.

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx. Smoking Bandits
With a gaze that was hard to describe, Lark stared at his body in the mirror. Not his body as a human, but his other body. Head of a reptile with rows of sharp teeth, a 180 cm tall body that is full of muscles, covered in scales formed green and black tiger stripes. Clawed hands and feet, with a tail strong enough to crush an adult neck. 'Man. . . can I still be called a human?' In the end, with a deep sigh Lark changed his form back into a human. A moment later, he came out of the room wearing a combat dress, tactical belt with shoulder strap, and jungle boots. While inserting a magazine into an AK-102, Lark muttered. 'Whatever, time to hunt Orcs.' *****
