《Reincarnated As A Dragon Vol.1: A New World, A New Life》Chapter 17: I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS

All I remember was trying to fall asleep, and then being in a state of non-feeling for a few seconds. And then the shaking starts. Something is wiggling me around, interrupting me from the peaceful void I am in. More light start to transform into stimuli and the audible movement of air goes through my sense of hearing.
"-yyy."
It's shaking again, and I start to open my heavy eyelids. Squinting, I see a blurry pale figure. With the background being a blurry ochre.
"Troy~" I started to hear the word clearly. I opened up my eyes and realized it was...
Besley trying to wake me up.
5 more minutes please, I tried to say, not thinking. What came out was something that is more like some retarded whining and snoring from my maw. It was followed by me uncurling and rolling to the other side to curl up again.
Besley giggled, "Come on, don't be like that."
But I am like that, I thought, trying to doze off again. I was never a morning person, and that did not change in this world.
"Well, you asked for it," Besley said before giving me a brief heart attack by picking me up.
HEY- Actually, this is pretty good. He managed to pick me up in a way that still kept my body curled comfortably, even though my paws and tail is now hanging.
It is pretty warm, I might just be able to doze off a little before Besley finishes transporting me to wherever he is planning to go.
================================
I just woke up and as always, Troy is still on a random carpeted floor in the mansion, sleeping like a log. A round one, that is. I always wake up naturally to the morning sun, while that walking purple log only wakes up when the sun is almost at its highest. Guess Troy isn't really a morning type...
I was taking a shower when daddy suddenly called through the door, "Besley! Hurry up! Our guests have arrived at the library!"
"Wait, we have guests?!" I shouted back.
"Did you really forget everything about our talk yesterday?"
My mind started racking up and organizing all the memories of all the things I did yesterday in order, before pausing itself on the conversation I had with dad in front of the library's doors.

"Oh my god!" I shouted as I sped up my showering processes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found Troy, still an inanimate object in the same spot. He makes all of us wonder sometimes if he temporarily becomes a corpse in the middle of the night.
I shook him a bit. Not a single movement. I shook him again, "Trooyy, wake uupp," I cooed. His eyelids started to move. "Troyyy~"
He actually fully opened his eyes this time, although he is blinking a lot and quite slowly. "Troyy~," I cooed again for reassurement.
Troy let out some weird snores and whimpers before rolling over to the other side, curling up again while making indescribable garbled noises.
I can't help but find it funny as it was also similar to how I sometimes react if someone tries to wake me up in the early morning. "Come on, don't be like that." He didn't even acknowledge me this time. I was starting to get annoyed.
"Well, you asked for it," I said as I picked him up quickly to wake him up. Surprisingly, there was not much of a reaction and he just curled back to doze off again. I thought he would hiss or scratch me or something.
Maybe he's too sleepy. And now I have to carry you to the library?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What the hell am I carrying?! This lizard really is a round, purple, heavy log. I've only walked for three minutes and I'm already panting, wanting to drop him. Luckily for him, the library is near our house.
As I walk into the library, desperately clinging to my strength and energy, I walked a dozen more seconds into the laboratory, where my father, Professor Damian, and the scientist are already in.
When I came into the room, Professor Damian smiled, father had a proud look, and the scientists looked shocked.
"This is the dragon?" "It's very tame..." "How does it allow him to carry it like that?" Murmurs were exchanged between the six scientists. Two women, four men.
Father laughed as I placed Troy down carefully(somehow) before allowing myself to breathe, sitting on the ground. "Boy, why did you need to carry him like that?"
"This stubborn round thing wouldn't be bothered to wake up!" Professor Damian followed father this time at laughing.

Not funny!
One of the scientists, a woman, took a few steps closer to us. "Could I, inspect him closer?"
We didn't have time to answer as Troy started opening an eye before doing some king of shriek and tumbling and running to take cover behind me.
================================
I was almost dozing off when I heard new voices I couldn't recognize. I noticed that we went indoors a few seconds ago, So I think we're already where Besley wanted me to be. What's with all the urgency anyways? It's still quite an early morning! Very early in my standards.
Before I expected it, I was being placed down while some people talked.
Leave me alooooooneeee!
I was still quite reluctant to give in to the noise and tried to doze off again, but it was too much. I hesitantly opened up an eye, only to see a woman I don't know inspecting me.
That's when I saw more people I don't recognize.
That's also when my brain decided to finally work and tried to process what is going on.
Strangers, Besley, Lord Gracius, Professor Damian, laboratory... SCIENTISTS.
ARE THEY HERE FOR ME? WHY? AAAAAAAA(hence the shriek)
I managed to get behind Besley for protection. Everyone else laughed.
"He's an adorable one, isn't he? A noisy one too..." The woman said, approaching me. I backed away even more. But then, Besley pushed me forward closer to her.
"It's ok," he said. "She's a nice lady." The woman smiled at him for this.
I hesitantly approached her, and she continued her inspection. She started touching my scales and I growled and whimpered for show. Yes, I did find out how to whimper manually.
"He is healthy! Look at these scales! So shiny. He looks slim, but he also has strong muscles!" She exclaimed, pressing my front right paw. "That means he's... What's his name again?"
"Troy," Besley answered.
"Troy has great nutrition and a lot of activity and exercise."
"Really? All I see him doing is sleeping!" Besley questioned.
She was confused for a second before Lord Gracius jumped in. "He occasionally goes outside to the forest everyday. Only the gods know what he does out there."
"O-oh..." The woman muttered.
"So what research would you need to do?" Professor Damian asked. Finally something that catches my interest.
"Ask her. I might be the lead scientist, but she's the one specialized in monster biology," a man pointed towards the woman in front of me.
"We would like some blood samples, scales, saliva, and some magical tests to find his magical and mental capabilities."
WHAT.
I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS
******************************************
"Ahhh, it's a win-win-win situation isn't it? I get my research information, you get your pet to stay with you, and the dragon would still feel safe and at home while the research is going. It might be more time consuming and expensive for me because of the travel costs, but I don't want my scientists to be unhappy with their job, which is bound to happen if they're supposed to research an angry dragon. So it's the optimum solution for all of us, is it not, Gracius?" The king turned towards father.
******************************************
Well, I kinda heard all that and agreed to it
But
I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS.
It took all my will to not just run away right now.
The woman in front of me spoke again, "We'll do the physical stuff today, and we'll do the tests tomorrow. We don't want to stress him too much."
Thank fucking god
"Well, what are we waiting for? We can start now right?" The other woman scientist... Is it right to call them scientists? Like, I mean, they also study magic. That's not science in my opinion. I'll call them researchers for my sake.
Professor Damian slipped a paper onto the ground next to me, "Oops, I dropped that." I saw what is said on it. 'Stay calm, it'll be fine' I assume it was meant for me.
'I am not fond with needles!' I shouted telepathically. He just shook his head in disappointment.
"Besley, if you can bring him on top of this white table please," the magic-monster-biology woman said.
Wait... WE'RE LITERALLY DOING IT NOW?

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

A spiraling doom awaits the world of Isulia. **************** I put the gore warning not because my book is overly gory (It's not constantly blood and guts). However, there are several moments that are extremely violent. I've always loved shows/movies such as, (The Expanse, The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, Attack on Titan, Baccano, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with violence. So be warned :) I've worked long and hard and have finally finished my third draft. Still needs work but everything storywise is complete. There are still a few things I need to add and tweak. Grammatical errors and flushing out the characters and dialogue still needs work. If you see any errors or plot holes, please feel free to point them out. It helps me improve upon the story.
