Heavenly Monarch Chapter 145

Once more Ray was brought to another room, but it is more likely to call it a field. As the whole place was covered in very tall grass with many entrances.
"Now what is the test going to be," said Ray as he waited for the mysterious voice to brief him on what he needs to do to complete the trial.
But while waiting silently by the entrance and there was no word spoken by the mysterious voice, Ray was just about to yell when a door appeared out of nowhere and Ellis walked out.
"Hey man, Good to see you here, now. I can be confident in passing this trial with no stress" said Ellis as he walked up to meet Ellis.
"Where is this place and why are you here," asked Ellis as he begins to look around his surrounding.
"That is the same question I am about to ask the voice that has been briefing me on what to do. And about what I am doing here, I should be the one asking you since I came first" replied Ray
"You were here first," asked Ellis in surprise.
"I was transported here right after completing the 2nd trial" replied Ray with a proud smile on his face.
"If I may ask, what test were you given in the 2nd trial," asked Ellis as he wanted to confirm his suspicions.
"It was a riddle game" replied Ray straight away without pausing.
"What, you mean you were also given the riddle test and you manage to pass it, tell me how were you able to pass that hooded person that seems to know it all" asked Ellis.
"It wasn't easy my friend, after trying many riddles that seen to be difficult for even a person like me to get the answers wrong but he gets the whole riddle right, so I decided to think outside the box and came up with a riddle that shouldn't have been know and that is how I pass the riddle game test" replied Ray.
"Dammit, I can't believe you came out before me," said Ellis.
"Huh, were you also going through the same trial," asked Ray when he heard Ellis complain.
"Yes I was and was only able to pass after making the riddle up" replied Ellis.
"If you were also challenging that hooded guy, then didn't that mean Jenny is also doing the same," said Ray after figuring the whole thing out.
"I believe she hasn't figured out a way to beat the hooded man for her to not be here with us" replied Ellis.
The moment Ellis said those words, a door appeared out of nowhere and Jenny walked out.
"Yes, I finally made it out of that room with that annoying person inside," said Jenny happily as she walked out of the door.

"Speaking of the devil" commented Ray as they walk up to her.
"You are the devil, your father and mother are the devils you Ray" replied Jenny with an offense.
"Too bad I no longer had a father, not to talk of a mother, so it is most likely that you are the devil herself," said Ray with a smile.
"Enough of that Ray, so Jenny how were the riddles with your opponent," asked Ellis after quieting Ray down.
"Horrible and I am even lucky to have won after cracking my brain in search of what to say, wait a minute, how did you know that my trial was about riddles," asked Jenny in confusion after replying to Ellis's question.
"Well Ray and I also went through the riddles before getting here, so it is not difficult to figure it out" replied Ellis with a smile on his face.
"So tell me, Jenny, what riddle did you asked the hooded person," asked Ray with a Cunning smile on his face.
"I look flat, but I am deep,
Hidden realms I shelter.
Lives I take, but the food I offer.
At times I am beautiful.
I can be calm, angry, and turbulent.
I have no heart but offer pleasure as well as death.
No man can own me, yet I encompass what all men must have" replied Jenny
"Wealth is the answer, I wonder how the hooded person was not able to get it right," said Ray.
"That's exactly what he said but the answer is not wealth instead it is the ocean" replied Jenny.
"That's is a tricky riddle" praised Ellis.
"Thank you, so Ray what riddle did you say to the hooded person," asked Jenny
"Don't bother asking, if I were to tell you, then the two of you are just going to look at me like dummies" replied Ray with a smile on his face.
"Haha, it better be don't say it," said Ellis when he saw the look on Jenny's face.
"So what do you think the test will be this time around," asked Jenny as she turns to look at the place.
"I don't know, wait a minute, Ray did you recently had a breakthrough," said Ellis as he senses the energy coming from Ray.
"Oh so you finally noticed, I have been waiting for you to asked me since we arrived here but you never took noticed" replied Ray with a light chuckle.
"That's insane, didn't you have a breakthrough about a month ago," asked Ellis.
"Yes I did, I was even surprised myself. Any that's in the past now, let's think of what the test is going to be" replied Ray as he changed the topic.
"Welcome to the maze ground, the test this time around is to find the exit out of here before time rounds out," said the mysterious voice.

The moment the mysterious voice said those words, a gigantic sandglass appear in midair and started to move towards the maze.
"My goodness, this is going to be more difficult than the riddles game," said Ellis with a frown as he stares at the sandglass moving towards the maze.
"Why is every challenge seen more difficult than the previous one" complains Ray.
"The rules are simple, if you don't find the exit before the time runs out, then you have failed the trial and will be sent out of this place," said the mysterious voice.
"After coming this far only to end up failing this test, that's not going to happen" replied Ray in fury.
"Your time start now," said the mysterious voice as the sandglass standstill and sand begins to flow.
"It has started guys, so let's get moving," said Ellis as he picked the entrance that was close to them.
And that's how they started the game of maze as they begin to search for the exit but never could for the moment they stepped into the maze and went deep inside, there was more path and the team was confused about which one they should follow. Picking one again, they proceed forward again but this time in a very low spirit.
"I have a feeling that we are going to make another choice on which path we should take after making it past this place," said Jenny.
"That I know and the annoying thing is that time is not on our side" replied Ellis as he left his head up to look at the sandglass.
They continue on the path until they came across three different paths this time around, not wasting time, Ray was the one who made a pick on his path they should follow, and the moment they started following the path, the team were ambushed by a beast but thankfully for them, they were prepared for such kind of thing as jenny swiftly unsheathed her blade and beheaded the beast.
"Why did you have to do that," said Ray.
"What did you mean by that" asked Jenny as she looked at Ray puzzling.
"Didn't you see that I was preparing to battle it out with it" replied Ray
"Ray you better stop it, as you can see we don't have the time to play around so it's better we leave the fighting to Jenny," said Ellis as he begins to look around the place.
"But I just made a breakthrough so it should be easier for me to deal with it quickly" replied Ray.
"Sorry my friend, maybe another time. Since this trial is very important to us, we should treat it more seriously" said Ellis.
Ray just ignored him and kept his blade back in his scabbard. Picking more path as they proceed along the way, the team were met with more beast along the way but were taken care of by jenny.
Meanwhile, they are beginning to lose confidence in themselves since it has been some time that they have been looking for the exit but were not able to find it.
"At this rate, we won't be able to make it to the exit before the time runs out," said Ellis.
"What are we going to do now," asked Jenny as she kept her blade after killing another beast.
"I don't know, right now I can't think of any possible way we can get out of this place" replied Ellis as he sat on the ground.
"I wish I can fly, then finding the exit wouldn't be a problem for us," said Ray with a sigh.
"You must have become half immortal to gain the ability" replied Jenny.
But that is when Ellis stood up in excitement as he has thought of something.
"Maybe we don't need to by half immortal before we could find the exit from up there," said Ellis as he pointed his finger up.
"What do you mean man, just go to the point as you can see we don't have the time in the world," asked Ray as he doesn't understand what he meant.
"What I am trying to say is, what if one of us went up and survey the place, wouldn't it be easier to find the exit." Replied Ellis with a smile.
"Good one Ellis, I knew you will be able to think of something," said Ray excitedly as he slaps Ellis on the shoulder.
"I was only able to come up with that idea because of you" replied Ellis sincerely.
"Alright now we have a plan, so who is going to be the one to be sent upward," asked Jenny who couldn't hide the happy expression on her face but that all changed when she saw the way the two were looking at her.
"You guys are joking right," said Jenny.
"No we are not, you see among the three of us, you should be the one that can be easily be thrown unlike I and this pig here" replied Ray with a chuckle.
"You are you calling a pig, can't you see that I have lost a lot of weight, or are you blind," asked Ellis.
"As long as you still chose to act lazy, then you are still a pig" replied Ray.
"Alright no infight since we don't have the time to anyway, so let begin," said Jenny as she went to stand in between Ellis and Ray.

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!

Paternum: A Superhero Story
When Quinn finds an experimental superpower-granting costume in their parents’ attic, they didn’t expect to be drawn into a web of superhuman intrigue, but their discovery serves as the catalyst for that conspiracy to slowly unravel. At it’s heart, Paternum is an extended coming-of-age story for the main character as they become a superhero, in a world with more reasonable stakes and less powerful heroes than many superheroic worlds. Themes include what art means to different people, and what it means to be a patron, whether as a sponsor, a parent, or a supporter. I consider Paternum‘s primary influences to be the various versions of Spider-Man, J. C. McCrae’s own superhero story Worm, and Drew Hayes’ story SuperPowereds. I hope that fans of such stories can find something to enjoy in mine as well. Paternum is primarily hosted on my website (thevoidwrites.com) where it updates weekly in groups of scenes totalling approximately 2000 words. Here on Royal Road, it will update once daily with one scene at a time, but only after each act is completed on the home site - the next batch of updates is scheduled to begin on February 5th. There is a discord channel for discussion (discordapp.com/invite/QFMM6yA), and you can vote for Paternum on topwebfiction (topwebfiction.com/vote.php?for=paternum) as well. Finally, you can buy the first book of Paternum, The Swift Uplifting Rush, in a couple different ways - as an ebook through Amazon, or directly from me for a discounted price, or as a physical paperback from Amazon. Buying the book will give you access to Drawing Hands, an exclusive arc that won't ever be published on either my site or Royal Road.
