Monster Paradise Chapter 8: Stalwart Suites
Monster Paradise Chapter 8: Stalwart Suites
“Mail’s here! Express delivery for one Mister Lin Huang!”
A piercing high-pitched voice cut through the serenity of morning accompanied by a rhythmic drumming on the door.
*peck* *peck *peck*
The source of that disturbance into view as Lin Huang opened the door. A yellow “pigeon” the size of a palm was hovering in mid air as it flapped its wings.
Commonly known as a Qianyu Bird, it was famous for its intelligence. It had the ability to learn up to a thousand languages and communicate with humans in a coherent manner. Its intelligence was comparable to human child. Pretty impressive for a bird-brain.
However, its real selling point as mailbird was its Storage ability. Its vast storage capacity made them a prime target for taming. Each of its feathers was an isolated Storage Space that had a storage volume of 1 cubic metre.
Seeing the door, the Qianyu bird greeted Lin Huang. ” Good Morning, Mister Lin Huang. Your express delivery is here!”
As it chirped, it lifted its right wing and several parcels poured out from its feathers and landed on the ground with a soft thud. A few of these parcels were several times larger than its body.
“Please sign for it here!” With a flick of its feathered head, a clipboard bearing the standard delivery form appearing in its beak.
Lin Huang reached out and accepted the clipboard. He quickly scanned through the inventory list before signing on the dotted line. He then tore off the carbon copy of the form and handed the form to the bird. With his remaining free hand, he reached to a bowl of candy he placed on the left side of his doorway, and grabbed a bunch of candy from it.
“For you.”
A large portion of monsters loved desserts. The Qianyu in particular, had a sweet tooth and loved candy. It thus became a common practise to prepare candy as reward for their delivery. Being forewarned of this delivery, Lin Huang scavenged a bit of candy from his ruined kitchen in preparation for this delivery.

“Thanks!” the bird waved its wing over the form and the candy and stored it in its storage space. It nodded its head in appreciation and took off.
Lin Huang slowly moved the parcels into the house and closed the door behind him.
” One BlackIron Ranked combat knife.”
” One basic military survival knife.”
” One basic military water bottle.”
” One box of Armor Piercing Bullets (Gray Eagle 17 exclusive), 10 bullets.”
” One raincoat. “
” One pair of night-vision goggles.”
” One telescope.”
” Two bottles of hemostatic drugs.”
“One roll of hemostatic bandages.”
The total damage is 80% of my savings. Lin Huang grimaced as he took stock of his delivery.
10000 credits for the combat knife.
8000 credits for that water bottle. It was made from the stomach sac of a Dimensional Desert Rat and had a space compression effect. It had an astonishing capacity of 1 metric tonne.
1000 credits for 2 bullets. 5000 for the entire box.
2000 for the rest.
This was the largest purchase he made since he transmigrated to this world but he felt it was definitely worth it. These supplies were what he thought would come in handy for the Reserve Hunter Exam.
While the contents of the hunter exam varied each time, the portion of the exam was fixed. It was a wilderness survival test. Gon Lin Huang made the purchase with that in mind.
The postal service is surprisingly efficient. I was worried I would have to file an address change when I made the order yesterday. With the checking done, Lin Huang kept the supplies in his Personal Storage Space.
The registration for the Reserve Hunter Examination is done via the HeartNet while the exam itself takes place in a Medium Stronghold.
The nearest stronghold is 7C87. Its hunter exam starts a week later; Riding a Wing Eagle to the examination center will take 2hrs or so. Given the time left, I should have enough time to prep…
In the midst of his planning, he was interrupted by another doorknock. He wasn’t expecting another delivery so soon.

A middle-aged man in a suit greeted him as he opened the door. Behind this sharply dressed man was a group of burly men in coveralls.
The man shook Lin Huang and greeted him with a cordial smile. “Mister Lin Huang, as per the Federation’s renovation order, we are here to repair your home. If you have any questions, please direct them at me.”
“I’m fine with anything as long the holes in the ground and walls are fixed.” They are pretty efficient as well. The Federation’s renovation notice came last afternoon as Lin Huang was finishing his lunch. It was truly surprising that the renovation crew came over so soon.
“Since that’s the case, we’ll get on it!” The middle-aged man smiled as he nodded. With a sleek motion, he pulled a card and respectfully handed it Lin Huang. It was a passcard for a hotel room. “We rented that room for 5 days. The renovation works will be done by then.”
“Alright. Thanks.” Lin Huang received the room card and checked the details. The card had a word prominently embossed across it. Stalwart. This was a room card from the Stalwart Suites! The Stalwart Suites was the most luxurious hotel in this stronghold and even their normal rooms commanded a hefty price tag of 1000 credits per night. For that price, one could rent a hotel in a Large Stronghold.
However, this irregularity did not cross Lin Huang’s mind. He assumed this was just part of the Federation’s standard procedures.
“Just leave the matters here up to us. If there any express deliveries, we will transfer it over to your hotel. If you have any valuables left unpacked, we can wait for you to pack it up before we start our work.” The man reminded Lin Huang.
“Valuables? None of that here.” Lin Huang shook his head. “Just need to pack up our toiletries. Feel free to enter in the meantime.”
“It’s fine. We will wait for you to grab your belongings.” The man firmly refused.
Seeing his firm rejection, Lin Huang went to each bedroom to grab his and his sister’s toiletries. After checking that he did not leave anything important behind, he left the 2nd floor.
“Alright. Then I’ll head off to the hotel.” As he said so, Lin Huang took a scrap of paper and scribbled on it momentarily before handing it to the man. “This is the password for the main door, the room doors aren’t locked. The room keys are in washroom cabinet, above the mirror. If you need it, just grab it.”
The middle-aged man nodded as he received the note from Lin Huang. “Don’t worry, we’ll handle it.”
7D101 was a pretty small stronghold. It only had 3 or 4 main roads. The main street Lin Huang lived was called 101st Street. Its unusual naming reflected the wishes of the stronghold’s founders; That one day, the stronghold will expand to have 101 streets and become as large as a B ranked Large Stronghold.
After a 10 mins walk, Lin Huang arrived at the Stalwart Suites. Seeing the spacious chinese courtyard in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of tranquility.
He took a photo of the hotel and sent it to his sister with a caption. “House’s under renovation. We’ll be living here for the next 5 days. Room 302. Just head here once school’s over.”
“Are you lying to me Brother?!” Lin Xin instantly replied to him.
Lin Xin was pretty enamoured with the Stalwart Suites. Her school was situated close to the hotel and she frequently took a detour just to snap a few photos of its courtyard and flowers. She dreamed of being able to visit its suites and check out its interior. As such, she could barely contain herself as she texted that message.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Lin Huang took a photo of the room card’s front and back and sent it to his sister.
Unbeknownst to him, the moment he stepped into the Stalwart Suites, a gaze locked onto him.
“Looks like we have an interesting visitor…”

This is my first attempt at writing a story. I am a complete beginner at this. The closest thing to an organized story I’ve ever written is essay reports back in high school. There might be syntax errors and weird language all over the place. So, apologies in advance. I’ll be trying my best to make this story as interesting as possible, and with your feedback I am sure I can make something nice out of it. Constructive criticism is appreciated. And you are welcome to comment any errors you might notice. I’ll try to fix them up as soon as I can. For now, I don’t have a schedule. But if the story gets traction, I will try to work something out. **Cover Image Drawn by me.
