Monster Paradise Chapter 5: Gold Ranked Equipment
The first thing Lin Huang did upon returning home was to rush to the restroom.
“Xin er! It’s safe. You can come out now.” He called out while banging on the toliet door.
Meanwhile, Li Lang was busy inspecting the house. Based on the various signs of battle, he was able to piece together the general situation. The more he inspected the house, the more shocked he became. How did Lin Huang survive unscathed under such a ferocious barrage of attacks?
After a short delay, the restroom door opened. Lin Huang felt a figure rush into him as the familiar figure of his sister dived into his embrace.
“It’s alright now. Don’t worry” Lin Huang patted her on her head as he consoled her. {She must’ve been really worried.}Her eyes are red from crying and there’s still some tears at the corner of her eyes.
{A while later, Lin Xin finally calmed down.} She rubbed her face against Lin Huang’s chest several times in order to hide her tears. Once she was satisfied her tears had dried up and there was no traces left, she finally loosened her embrace and looked up at her brother. “Brother, what happened to the monster?”
“It’s dead” Lin Huang smiled lightly as he said so.
At this moment, Li Lang having halted his inspection, walked over and commented ” Your brother single-handedly took down a vampire who had been classified as a Third Ranked BlueCopper monster by the Hunter’s Association.”
Hoping to glimmer some clues about Lin Huang’s abilities, he quietly observed Lin Xin’s reaction. However, the result disappointed him.
While Lin Xin knew about the different rankings of monsters, she did not understand the difference in strength between the ranks. She only knew that a Third Ranked BlueCopper vampire was strong but her brother was even stronger! Her reaction was one of worship as she stared fervently at her brother.
“Brother, who is this uncle?” Lin Xin asked as this uncle’s existence finally dawned upon her.
“Uncle…” Li Lang’s face cramped up slightly as he heard this. ” I’m only 18…”
This revelation came as a surprise to Lin Huang. He thought Li Lang was about 24 years old. However what surprised him even more was that Li Lang was a Silver Hunter at the tender age of 18! He could be counted as one of the most gifted geniuses in the entire 7th District.
In the face of Lin Xin’s disbelieving eyes, Li Lang mentally sighed in resignation.
Lin Xin turned to her brother with enquiring eyes, look of disbelief apparent in them. She didn’t believe that Li Lang was really 18.

“He should be 18. Just call him brother” Lin Huang nodded his head as he responded to his sister’s gaze/
“Kay.” Lin Xin finally turned around to Li Lang and exclaimed energetically “Hello Brother!”
“Hello…” Li Lang awkwardly replied back. After thinking for a while, he took out a Life Crystal and gave it to Lin Xin. ” Since you called me Brother, here’s a gift. (as a way to greet a person. Not sure what it is called). “
“Brother…” Lin Xin looked at Lin Huang pleadingly.
Naturally, she was aware of the value of a Life Crystal. It was why she did not dare to accept such an extravagant gift. Furthermore, this was a 3 year Life Crystal! If it was converted into credits, it would be worth three hundred thousand.
” This gift is too valuable. We can’t accept it” While Lin Huang was envious of Li Lang’s wealth and wanted to accept the gift, Li Lang’s generosity made him suspect the other party’s motives.
“This is the cheapest item I have on me. Just keep it. Besides, I’ve never taken back a gift that I’ve given.” Li Lang firmly rejected Lin Huang.
This sucker must be really rich… This display of posturing… I’ll give it 99/100. Lin Huang mentally attached a “rich sucker” tag on him and nodded towards Lin Xin. ” Just accept it.”
However, his suspicions about Li Lang’s motives only grew deeper. He’s either a pervert or a robber!
Seeing that Lin Huang did not object, Lin Xin took the Life Crystal and then handed it over to her brother. ” Brother, you should have it instead.”
Lin Huang took it without any hesitation and kept it in his Storage Space. Looking over at Li Lang, he instantly grew alarmed at what he saw. Li Lang was busy sizing up his sister’s body.
He quickly pulled Lin Xin over to his side. “Hands off my sister. Even if you gave us something more valuable than a 3 year Life Crystal…”
“You are reading too much into this. I’m not interested in little girls. I just saw that she had some potential and gave her a second look.”
Seeing Li Lang turn his gaze over to himself, Lin Huang retreated out of reflex. “Hey, I’m not into guys! Let me tell you. Not only in this life; But in my next life; in my next next life, I’ll only date girls!”
Noting the growing alarm in Lin Huang’s eyes, Li Lang decided to confess.
“Actually the real reason I came over to your home is to find out how you defeated that vampire. Even though it was severely weakened, it was still a BlueCopper monster whereas you are just a normal civilian who isn’t even a Blackiron. So I thought you had some kind of special equipment or technique. If you are willing to sell it, I will pay a high price for it.”

“We’re just a poor family… What kind of equipment or technique did you think we could possibly have. I’ll show you around the house and recap the entire battle”. Lin Huang explained in a joking tone as he realized he misunderstood Li Lang’s intentions.
Lin Huang led him to the Lin Xin’s messy room and started recounting their encounter with the vampire.
As Li Lang listened to Lin Huang’s explanation, he was also inspecting the wreckage in the room. The more he saw, the greater the surprise and respect he felt towards Lin Huang. If he had in been in Lin Huang’s shoes at that moment, he probably would have died let alone kill the vampire.
“I can’t believe you actually managed to take down the vampire in such a manner. I’ve underestimated you.”
He patted Lin Huang on the back and remarked “If you are ever able to fix the defects in your Life Wheel, I believe you will become a person that everyone has to look up to!”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have much time left…” Lin Huang shook his head as he laughed. He didn’t mind discussing such a personal matter in front of Li Lang. ” Are you done assessing the damages?”
“It’s almost done. I just have to snap a photo of the entire house and it will be over.” As he said this, Li Lang took out a golden coin which had a series of complicated flower engravings. Tossing it into the air, the coin started rotating furiously. The coin started to look like a golden ball the size of a thumb as it began floating mid-air.
This unusual scene captured Lin Huang’s attention as he could not help but stare at the spherical object.
The golden ball suddenly split into two halves and from its midsection, a white crystalline layer could be seen.
A flash of white light rippled out from that crystalline layer and spread out throughout the area.
A moment later, the sphere reverted back into a gold coin and landed on Li Lang’s palm as it started falling.
“A Gold Ranked Equipment?!” Lin Huang could not help but ask as Li Lang stowed the coin back into his Storage Space.
” Yup, I found this toy in a Medium stronghold by chance.” He proudly explained as he saw Lin Huang’s surprised face. As the two continued chatting, Li Lang’s showy nature started to show itself.
“That’s a Scouting Equipment isn’t it?” This was the first time Lin Huang had ever seen a Gold Ranked Equipment.
“That’s right. Among the non-combat line of equipment, it’s one of the pricier goods! However, I only used a single 1 Year Life Crystal to exchange for it. The seller thought it was a normal antique gold coin and sold it to me cheap. I left the moment the transaction was done in case the seller noticed his mistake.” Li Lang laughed as he proudly recounted the transaction.
“That’s definitely a great deal.” Even though Lin Huang did not know the exact value of a Gold Ranked Equipment, he knew that a normal Blackiron Ranked Equipment could be exchanged for several Life Crystals.
As they became engrossed in their conversation, Lin Huang noticed his sister yawning in a corner. Seeing the exhaustion on his sister’s face, he knew it was time to send off his guest.
” Mr. Li Lang. Since the damage assessment is done, I won’t take up anymore of your time. As you can see our house doesn’t even have a bed at the moment. Me and my sister would probably have to sleep on the floor tonight.”
“Alright. Then I won’t impose on you any further. My evaluation report has already been submitted and a reply should be forthcoming within 24 hours. If it passes the government inspection, a renovation team will be sent within 3 days. During the renovation, a temporary shelter will be provided. In the meantime, you will have to put up with this situation.”
After sending off Li Lang, Lin Huang helplessly looked at his house. The bedrooms were a total mess. The two beds were smashed into woodchips. As for the first floor, there was a huge hole in the living room floor. Looks like sleeping on the floor is out of the question. The cupboards in the kitchen took up the bulk of the space so only one space could sleep there.
“Brother, So… where do we sleep?” Lin Xin pitifully gazed at Lin Huang.
“My room’s in a better condition than yours so we should be fine sleeping there once we clean up the mess.”
The clean-up took over an hour before the room was in a livable condition. Exhausted from the hard work, Lin Xin dozed off instantly. Staring at the scarred room sleeplessly, he smiled as he saw his sister sleeping soundly. “Such a carefree kid…”
Lin Huang sighed as the matter of his uncertain future affecting his sister weighed heavily on him.
“Looks like being a competent brother isn’t as easy as I thought!”

A World Forgotten
***This story will contain lite-litrpg elements, mainly character pages and a town page. There will also be settlement building and adventuring, missteps and achievements. But one thing it definitely won’t have is a harem. Nor will it have an overpowered MC. Contains mild cursing.*** ***feel free to critique my writing and offer input. This is my first venture into writing. I've always enjoyed litrpg/gamelit books. I feel like I write how I talk, so it may be a little different. You won't hurt my feelings if you see something wrong or out of place! *** ***What follows is a condensed part of chapter 1. Enjoy!*** Drew Cooper is thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. Waking up in his sweats and t-shirt near what seems to be a forgotten path through some woods, he struggles coming to terms that he's no longer in his apartment. As he tries to cope with his new reality, he hears a horse coming down the path. He hides behind a nearby tree dreading what may happen next. As the horse approaches, he sees a man walking next to it. The horse is burdened with packs and gear. When the man nears, Drew nearly panics. He has a large sword strapped to his waist, obviously a fighter. He continues to hide as the man slowly passes only for the man to stop a dozen meters past his hiding spot. "You may as well come out, ya know. You weren't as well hidden as you thought," the man stated matter-of-factly, letting the horse’s reins go and putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Slowly and scared for his life, Drew raised up and walked from behind the tree. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't planning on attacking you. I-I don't know where I am. I heard your horse and hid. I didn't know what you'd do if you saw me. I'm sorry," he nervously blurted out. A minute passed. Then two. The man seemed interested with Drew and stepped closer, eyes squinting as if trying to see something. "What's that on your shirt? Is that. What is that? Is that, Pac-man?" The man was visibly shaken while pointing at me. Looking down at his t-shirt nervously, "Yea. Yea. I woke up here a few hours ago I think. 3 maybe 4 hours. I’ve just been sitting here. Where am I? What's going on?" Drew asked. "That's not important right now," the man replied. " What's important is where you're from. What year is it?" "What year? April something 2020. Why? What's going on?" Drew continued now worried. The man was taken aback. After a few moments, he seemed to calm himself some. The man sighed and looked at Drew in earnest. "Well, I've got good news and bad news for ya. Bad news is you're not on Earth anymore. Good news is you happened to run into me and not someone else. You’re either really lucky, or it’s fate we met in these woods, and I don’t believe in luck." The man continued to walk towards Drew while talking and put out his hand. "I'm John Mitchell from St. Louis or thereabouts. You’ve got nothing to be scared of by me. Walk with me and let’s talk."

Sometimes letting go and moving on just doesn't feel possible; no matter how much time you let pass you by.These poems signify what time hasn't healed for me.
