《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 40 - Taking It Back

Taylor slowly walks up the steps. The top step was covered in plastic, crinkling under Taylor's foot. Taylor looks around the room and the whole room was covered in plastic. Taylor gulps and continues to follow.
Taylor passes by a large sword on the table; it was two meters long with a long handle and a thick blade. There seemed to be some blood still on its edge. Taylor takes a deep breath and decides to ignore it.
Eventually, Tasha stops and turns around. Taylor also stops and raises an eyebrow. Is this where they were leading me? Other than the sword there's nothing here. Taylor thinks as he considers the situation. Jared stops behind Taylor and picks up the heavy sword like it was a toy; it was as light as a feather in his hands. Taylor’s eyes widen. Fuck. He thinks, a little anxious. “What the fuck is going on here, Tasha?” He was forced to ask.
Tasha lets out a sigh. “Taylor. My dear, Taylor. We read your survey. It seems you didn’t grow up to be such a nice person. Even if we have history with each other, business is business. And Jared and I, we’re in the business of murdering freaks like you.” Tasha says with disgust on her face.
“Who the fuck kills a 17 year-old, Taylor? That’s just fucked.” Jared says before spitting on the ground in disgust.
“Who the fuck killed a 17 year-old!? All I did was bang her!” Taylor exclaims with some anger in his voice.
Jared raises an eyebrow. “Then why’d you write it down? Who hasn’t banged a 17 year-old?” He asks, confused.
“Fuck man. That’s gross. You’re a pedo.” Taylor says, disgust now on his face as well.
Anger flares up on Jared’s face. “Fuck you! You’re the pedo!” He says with indignation.

“Jared! Shut up!” Tasha yells, silencing Jared’s next words. She turns to Taylor and judges him with her eyes, determining his worth. “The rest of your survey wasn’t that great either, Taylor. You even told us about the large amount of Naturalists you killed. You should know, Taylor, both Jared and I have been infected with the greed aura. You’ve been murdering our brothers and sisters.” She says, ready to strike at any moment.
“Ugh, what can I say? That was just business. The work had to be done. But you should know, after a while I just started capturing them and sending them away. But yeah, my hands are filled with Naturalist blood. You got me.” He admits, not sure what else to say.
Tasha raises an eyebrow, curious. “Sending them away? Sending them away where?” She asks.
“I’ve been sending them to the Mountain Climber Vampires. They wanted to research the greed aura. As far as I know, they’re living comfortably, and the master of the clan is very curious how far they can grow.” Taylor informs them.
“The Mountain Climber Vampires!? Taylor, you sick fuck! You sent them there to be tortured!” Tasha yells, trying her best to suppress the boiling rage within her.
“Yeah, you would think so. But trust me, the vampire in charge is more curious about their evolutionary potential than the pain their bodies can offer.” Taylor says, unsure why he had so much faith in the idea himself.
“Are you an idiot, Taylor? Or are you just part of the problem? Are you benefitting enough from the ruling elite that you just don’t care? You can’t have been a cultivator long because we knew you when you were a kid. But are you going to follow orders till you die? Until normal people are so far below you that they’re simply raised on farms, fed and alive, only to be butchered?” Tasha says, rage seething at every word.

Taylor raises an eyebrow. “Is this about the whole supernatural world being revealed? I’m not sure I quite understand what you guys are on about. So what if vampires exist?” He asks, confused.
Tasha takes a deep breath to calm herself. “Taylor. On the fifth stage of being a Naturalist, we gain the ability to feed on the life-force of other supernatural creatures, to strengthen ourselves. And our condition forces us to do it. When it happens we’re able to relive the memories of those we feed from. These creatures… These monsters in human clothing… They’ve been controlling every aspect of the general population’s lives for centuries! Normal people are forced to work to death while only the demons and beasts at the top of the food chain enjoy the fruits of that labour. For centuries, Taylor! Imagine what it feels like for a normal person thrown into this world, unaware that from they very beginning, at the fucking starting line, they already lost the game. It’s fucking infuriating Taylor. But now. The people have been given a chance. And we’re taking it back. We’re fucking taking it all back.” Tasha says as power begins to gather around her and her eyes begin to glow white.
“Fuck.” Taylor exclaims.

The Twelve
In a world marred by the supernatural, Japan suffers from its own fair share of evil and demonic disasters, with generations of shamans known as Onmyoji protecting their homeland from these forces of evil. Capable of wielding magic and using spirits of their own, these shamans were not only skilled in battle, but also divination. However, they were unable to correctly predict Japan's loss in World War Two, and suffered the punishments that followed. Persecuted and torn apart by infighting, the Onmyoji reunited under the banner of the Tsuchimikado clan, descendants of Abe no Seimei, one of the greatest Onmyoji to ever live. The Onmyoji began to rebuild and to regrow. Ren is the sole heir to the Tsuchimikado family, but has been unable to practice Onmyodo ever since his birth, even though he possesses the greatest ability in the family. But when disaster befalls his family, Ren has nobody to turn to, and no idea how to use his powers. As he journeys to escape the same fate his family faced and attempts to learn how to use his powers, there is only one question on his mind; as the Tsuchimikado heir, how can he save the Onmyoji... from themselves? ---------------------------------------------- note from author: I'm writing this based loosely on the very real theories of Onmyodo, and so my writing may not be a truthful or accurate depiction of Onmyodo or other related areas, such as religion, for instance. That is why, while depicted in the real world, events that happen may seem unrealistic and it may be easier to imagine it as a parallel universe that is the same as ours, but with slight differences so that my possible errors will be easier to overlook. Sorry, and thanks!
