CHAPTER FIFTY SIX

There’s never a bad time for a refreshing cup of tea

~

Hawk and Oak were silent as they read the final page

Deaf to the great war outside that continued to wage

Three random pages written by some ancient traveller

No telling where in the world all the other pages were

“Close the book and speak no word you read aloud, my love

Same for any gods who may be watching from above”

Oak reached out and closed the book, and with a quick motion

Disguised it as a manual to make a love potion

“Oak, we need to find a way to restore those pages

We cannot just let this knowledge be lost to the ages

But this alone has given us too much research to do

I’ll head to the empire, you keep that book here with you”

He nodded in agreement and he kissed her on the cheek

“Remember, what we read to day are works to never speak

If you’re not back soon I’ll join you, for now I’ll find Twig

Any clue will help us, no matter how small or big”

“I’ll be back soon, don’t you worry, give my best to Sky

This may be our final quest, but it is worth a try

If the kingdom falls, I’ll meet you near the southern sea

The battlefield where first confessed your great love for me”

With a wink she lifted off the ground and flew away

There was nothing else the magic couple had to say

Oak put the disguised book away and walked out of the room

Going outside to find his king facing certain doom

His natural ability to lead a massive force

Has led him successful down a predestined course

Though his army now struggles against uncertainty

He keeps them beneath beneath his rule without difficulty

“Old King Beam, it’s good to see you fighting the good fight

How’s the army doing on this most auspicious night?”

Oak approached the king, who had been making a grand speech

Stopping before him only once within an arm’s reach

Many feelings quickly appeared on the King’s face then

Everything from rage to relief, then more rage again

“Are you finally done reading, can you help us fight?

Or would you like to relax for the rest of the night?!”

Oak looked all around to see the capital in flames

“Come on now, tis battle’s lost, no matter who one blames

If you can’t do anything about some portals here

Your good subjects might have more than one reason to fear”

All who heard the words of Oak were shaken to the their core

Surely, they thought, King Beam wouldn’t take this anymore

But with all the diplomatic skills a king should show

He curtly sighed and bowed his head as low as it could go

“Please, protect this kingdom as you did in bygone years

Do not let this cataclysm bring my land to tears”

Tears of rage were surfacing in the king’s reddened eyes

The scene caught everybody there completely by surprise

Oak just laughed and patted the kind squarely on the back

“Well, why didn’t you say so, I’ll lead this next attack!”

He looked up and he counted fifty portals overhead

Then around at all the portal monsters lying dead

“Seems like mostly wyverns of the lower classes here

Call your men back quickly, and just tell me when they’re clear”

The king turned back to face his knights, who straightened at his stare

Impressed that even then, the king’s composure was all there

Achievement: Steadfast Constitution

It takes a great leader to bow down in times of need

You have not forgotten all the people which you lead

Your ideals are free even from the weight of a crown

You shall earn respect for knowing when you must bow down

The knights relayed his order to the knights who were fighting

The mages retreated and the archers ceased their firing

The sky filled up with wyverns right away as he had feared

And then the king looked back at Oak and told him they had cleared

Oak made several small gestures and summoned forth a bow

And a single arrow with power no one could know

He concentrated briefly on the bow then slowly drew

And aiming at the sky, without a sound the arrow flew

In that moment, suddenly a fire raged through the sky

Burning away wyverns’ wings until they couldn’t fly

One by one they fell toward the ground like drops of rain

Roaring as they fell then crying out in endless pain

Knights wasted no time in finishing of the wyverns

Who were rendered harmless by many terrible burns

Oak knelt down and gasped for air then smiled and stood back up

“I’m older than I thought, I think that I could use a cup”

The king had barely seen him cast the spell of fire at all

All he saw were burning beasts continuing to fall

Oak just sipped his cup of tea while relaxing a bit

The king then wondered when Oak had the time to summon it
