CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN

Isn’t it the perfect day to take a pleasant nap?

~

Achievement: Good Aim

If you’d missed you would have died but in that brief moment

You made a good call, and every second was well spent

Had you tried to out maneuver portal beasts like that

You’d have been as helpless as a mouse before a cat

Leaf slowed down to try and avoid tripping in the dark

Making sure with every step, that his foot found its mark

The sky was still engulfed in portals and that eerie glow

But he felt like sun should have set several hours ago

“Please still be alive you crazy girl, we’re not done yet

We still have to find Twig and go home, so don’t forget”

He whispered as he ran, hoping some gods may hear is plea

Even though he know that no blessings could come for free

But recently he’d found himself wishing they could help more

Wondering now what all of their efforts had been for

He’d even thought he might know now how his friend Twig must feel

To face so much bad luck in one day that it seemed surreal

His thoughts began to thin as he tried to pick up his pace

Until his thoughts had all but disappeared without a trace

Every time his foot made contact with the mossy ground

He felt it with his whole body but didn’t hear a sound

The monsters he ran by almost looked like they were statues

As he used all the power in his legs that he could use

And when he passed the river near where he had last seen Sky

He finally slowed down and hid from a goblin nearby

His eyes were finally adjusting to the portal light

And Leaf concentrated his mana to enhance his sight

But even before he could see it, he noticed the smell

Where Sky should have been waiting was a scene right out of hell

It was too grotesque for him to understand at first

His first thought was that some big monster graveyard had just burst

Limbs and guts from monsters he could not identify

The putrid smell alone now was enough to petrify

He lost his footing in in gruesome puddle of something

Still he hadn’t seen a trace of Sky but kept looking

He forced his eyes to stay open despite what they could see

Hoping this was not the place where his friend Sky would be

Achievement: Will

There’s no stat to ease your mind in moments such as these

Just accept this speed buff and continue quickly please

I don’t wish to see you in this situation now

This seems far too brutal for the System to allow

The system has informed me that it’s all under control

And that doubting its communion undermines its goal

Have faith that whatever happens, it is meant to be

It is likely this event will be resolved quickly

Even in his panic he thought that message was odd

But he had no time to question the words of a god

He followed the long trail of carnage to an opening

And there amidst a field of death Leaf saw his friend sleeping
