I Did Many Dangerous Things After Knowing When I Would Die Chapter 33

"What? Are you saying that this tomb spans throughout the entire mountain above? Also, the tomb was not a burial site for a person, but for a demonic entity?"
Blake stared at Natasha Monroe in front of him, his eyes wide open and his face full of disbelief.
"That's right."
Monroe nodded as she explained seriously.
"Actually, the land above didn't use to be a mountain, but ordinary flat land. "The tomb wasn't designed to be a tomb, either. It was a huge formation built to trap Rakshasa, the man-eating demon.
"However, due to some reason, the formation loosened and its ghostly Qi leaked out. Later, in order to suppress the evil Qi that had been flowing out, people kept filling the land with soil, and over time, it eventually became a hill."
Monroe said this in a relaxed tone, but when Blake heard it, it was as if he had been struck by lightning.
'To suppress the demon's aura, they made a mountain?
'What kind of plan was this?
'Didn't they just need to contain a wisp of soul? Was filling the land with soil really necessary?
'No, that's not the point!
'The point is... What's the history of this ghost?
'Why was such a large tomb necessary to trap it?
'A large tomb... that could also have been used as a magic formation?'
Blake's heart trembled, and he prepared to voice his questions.
However, as if Monroe could read his mind, she replied before he could ask.
"This ghost is the soul of the Rakshasa.
"This entire tomb is called the Moses Magic Formation."
"It was specially set up by a Western cult leader two hundred years ago, after he captured Rakshasa and extracted its soul, trapping it in this place.
"The Rakshasa is very powerful. Without this magic placed onto it, humanity would already have been wiped off the earth."
"Furthermore, because of its tremendous power, its evil aura is still constantly leaking out, even with such a large formation holding it together. It's constantly attacking the magic seal placed onto it.
"Oh right, the other reason why the formation is loosening up is because the magic device has been moved by someone!" Monroe's tone was solemn as she spoke.

When Blake heard her words, he was utterly confused and in disarray.
'Magical device?
'What's that?
'Why haven't I seen any in the tomb?'
"You should have seen these magical artifacts before."
Monroe looked at Blake and said with certainty, which made Blake even more puzzled.
Monroe peered around the tomb, and after a few seconds, she spoke up, stunned. "Eh? Where are those magical tools? They should be in the knapsacks of the dead bodies on the ground. Why are they all gone?" Monroe stared at the corpses of the tomb robbers with a perplexed expression.
Blake understood now!
"Those funerary objects? Those gold, silver, and jewelry? They... are magical devices?"
Blake cried out in surprise as he felt the pieces coming together in his mind.
After hearing Blake's words, Monroe nodded and spoke.
"That's right. It's the gold, silver, and jewelry. They're not treasures, but magical tools used to maintain this seal formation together.
"They were originally placed in a fixed position.
"Later, someone broke into the cemetery and attempted to steal them, so they were moved.
"That was when the seal of the Moses Magic Formation began to loosen, and Rakshasa's black Qi began to escape."
When Blake heard this, he was shocked. He quickly recalled the contents of the records in the notebook he had taken from a corpse earlier.
'Someone came to this tomb chamber before us and dug up the passageway…'
"So, how did these guys come to know that there was a supernatural device here? How many years ago did they arrive?"
Blake could not help but ask out of curiosity.
Monroe was taken aback when she heard that. She frowned, running through her memories for a while before she recalled.
"That was 80 years ago.
"More than 80 years ago, the nine stars in the sky were aligned. The Yin Energy was getting thicker and the seal was loosened. Rakshasa took the opportunity to release a lost soul into the human world.
"That ghost manipulated a villager from a nearby village and took over his mind. It controlled the villager to dig a passage into the tomb and barged in.
"He also moved the magic tools.
"At that time, I didn't know that these tools were connected to the magic circle.

"Only after the artifacts were carried away from their original positions, and the magic formation was relaxed, did I realize that these objects were closely related to the seal.
"Later, I managed to chase the guy who barged into the tomb away, but because I'm just a soul, I couldn't move these magic tools. Only you humans can.
"Of course, I also have the ability to possess humans, but I've tried and found that it was useless. I was burned by the spiritual artifacts when I tried to move them.
"So from then on, they had been left away from their initial positions, and the seal weakened, allowing the malicious Qi of Rakshasa to begin leaking out of this place.
"Until 60 years ago, when someone was bewitched by the same black Qi and broke in.
"This time, it wasn't just one person, but a group.
"You know them too. They were the tomb robbers that now lie here, dead.
"Their intrusion caused even more of these devices to be displaced, and the rate at which the Qi flowed out was accelerated.
"Fortunately, among the thieves 60 years ago, there was a guy who seemed to have an extraordinary background. He was actually able to see through the identity of Rakshasa's spirit and noticed that the gold, silver, and jewelry were the key to the Moses Magic Formation.
"In the end, he added a new layer of seals to the coffin with his own sealing technique.
"It slowed down the ooze of Rakshasa's aura, but he suffered a backlash. He and his teammates had to be trapped in the tomb for the rest of their lives.
"Later, I made a deal with him. The terms were that I would help one of them escape, and he had to guarantee that the escapee would protect the secret of this cemetery, using soil to hide the existence of this grave.
"He agreed and I helped the youngest of them escape.
"The little guy did keep his promise. He has been helping me protect this cemetery for the past 60 years.
"That's why nothing happened here during that length of time.
"He's the village chief here, and the person I made the deal with was the man who fell over there."
As Monroe said this, she pointed her finger and Blake's gaze followed its direction.
It was the one who had written the notes in his diary...
"However, after 60 years, the seal has gone weak again. Rakshasa, on the other hand, is constantly getting stronger over the years.
"That man, Jack London, was the third to be bewitched by the black Qi.
"I wanted to save him before, but he attacked me."
A hint of fear flashed in her eyes as she spoke.
"Jack London had a magical artifact that could restrain me.
"He had been taught by an expert who knew of my existence. He wanted to suppress me and take the opportunity to release Rakshasa!
"However, at the critical moment, I possessed Jack London's body and disrupted his plans.
"You already know what happened after that. Rakshasa's Qi spread once again. You were led into this tomb. You opened the coffin and this time, Rakshasa has completely escaped from this place!"
She said bitterly, glaring at Blake.
Blake flushed with embarrassment, unsure of what to say or do.
He was indeed the one who had opened the coffin, and therefore, it was him who had caused this disaster.
However, he truly had not known that such a powerful being was locked inside...
His intentions had been pure, wanting to suppress the ghostly Qi. Who knew that he would have released all of it…
'No, that's not right!' He thought harder as he concentrated on the crux of the problem.
The system had clearly told him in the beginning that the solution to curb the problem of the leaking Qi was in the coffin.
Not only that, this dark green soul ring he had found inside had been able to do just that.
Therefore, opening the coffin had probably been the right choice.
Therefore, this woman, Monroe, was definitely hiding crucial information from him!
He lifted his face toward her and looked into her eyes as he opened his mouth.
"Miss Monroe, what's your relationship with this ring?"

OUTLIERS
30 years ago brought the first superhumans, regular people given great power seemingly at random. 15 years ago brought the paranormals, stranger and often weaker in their abilities, but far more numerous. Today, the world holds its breath . . . Or at least, it should. Most people, though, are just trying to get on with their lives; some successfully, some less so. It's a sensible goal, but it can be hard when shadowy conspiracies and worldwide N.G.O.s are turning your city into a proxy battleground over world-shattering secrets. It’s bad enough when you’ve just woken up with superpowers and terrorists are holding your school hostage. It’s even worse if you’re an illegal vigilante stuck in the middle of the whole Charlie Foxtrot after a supervillain raid drops vital information in your lap. For Hannah Eiling-Kingsford and Flint Perez, life is about to get a lot harder to get on with. ----- Outliers is a superhero story. Okay, so not so much superhero as vaguely superhero-ish. It's about two teenagers dealing with, among other things, new powers, psycho exes, mysterious datapads and a giant, secret war between the foremost powers-that-be, over information that could forever change the world. Again. You know, normal teenage stuff. Outliers contains some foul language and mild sexual references. It is a complete story, and can also be read on its own website. If you enjoy the story, please consider writing a review, either here or on WebFictionGuide, or just drop a vote for it on Topwebfiction. Any and all support is appreciated, and comments, questions and critiques are all expected and encouraged.
