I Did Many Dangerous Things After Knowing When I Would Die Chapter 6

"Look! This is what it means to be a man! This is who an explorer should be! As expected, this is why John Jones' so popular! I'm f*cking impressed by his guts!"
"My mom asked me why was I kneeling while watching the livestream, and I said John exploring the tomb was more exciting than a f*cking horror movie!"
"It's still the usual 'John's Exploration' style! Once he sets his mind toward his goal, there's never turning back! Hahaha, exciting!"
"John is awesome! This is called a guaranteed success! He's actually going straight for their base camp to leave no escape for any ghosts! Hahaha!"
The livestream's comments section blew up with praises and compliments about John's tactical abilities.
Everyone was astonished by his actions!
Of course, there was also a faction of girls who voiced their concern over his spontaneous decision.
"Wait, John, isn't this too dangerous? We don't have to go all out right from the beginning!"
"John, make sure to bring along your weapons! There's still plenty of time, no need to rush!"
...
Just as the comments section was crazily updating itself over and over again with new lines of text, John seized the opportunity for an advertisement.
Taking out a bottle of water from his backpack, he casually said, "Thank you for your overwhelming words of praise, but this is simply my duty as a captain."
"Just a few moments ago, someone asked why I was able to persist in exploring for so many years. To be frank, this could not have been done without the support of some brands. For example, this Le Hu sports drink is pretty much a must-have item for us explorers. You can even bring multiple bottles along with you during any exercise. Thank you for your support."
John grinned as he said this, shaking the drink in his hand.
The viewers marveled at this short gesture and made sure to engrave it into their minds.
The scene associated the drink with sports, courage, and many other different keywords.
It could be assumed that after tonight, Le Hu would definitely be favored among many other brands of sports drinks.
This had been John's real goal from the start; he wanted to avoid promoting the sports drinks awkwardly in the middle of carrying out their investigation, so this was like a golden opportunity for him, and he felt a huge sense of accomplishment.

In the end, he would be able to obtain both fame and fortune.
'Perfect!'
John thought with a smile spread across his face.
As for this cemetery... Was it really even dangerous?
What kind of joke was this?
'Has there ever been a situation where I have not been able to come out unscathed?'
He thought disdainfully as he led everyone to the cemetery.
At that moment, a shout came from behind.
"Don't go over!
"That place is dense with Yin energy; the terrain is rugged, and not a single blade of grass grows on the land. There's definitely something strange happening underground.
"Besides, something happened to Jack London at that very same place. There's no need to put ourselves in danger.
"Everyone, let's find another place to station ourselves..."
The person who spoke out, was obviously Blake.
Using his Yin-Yang Eye, he had managed to notice the oddity of that place ahead of time.
Therefore, he couldn't just sit back and watch these people endanger themselves and march to their own deaths.
Of course, he couldn't reveal the fact that he had something like the Yin-Yang Eye in his possession, so he could only come up with an excuse.
However, John and the others weren't about to reciprocate his kindness.
Upon hearing Blake's words, John slowly turned around and sneered at Blake, clearly insulted.
As an experienced and senior explorer, he had always been the one who taught others.
Who had ever dared to teach him instead?
Not to mention a high school student?
The audacity! John was insulted and he scoffed at Blake, but he refrained from berating Blake for his inexperience and cowardice; he wasn't about to stoop to that level.
With so many people present, naturally, there would be someone who would defend and speak up for him.
Then, one of the explorers of the team who had the number eight plastered onto the back of his shirt walked up to Blake.
"Kid, take back what you just said and apologize to Captain John, or else! Don't blame me for not giving you a chance.
"You're just a teenager. What do you know about the Yin energy of the area?
"Shut your mouth and follow obediently!
"If we lose sight of you later, we won't bother looking for you!"

He shot Blake a piercing glare.
Not only was he not taking Blake's words seriously, but he also felt that Blake was just stirring up unnecessary trouble!
At the same time, the livestream also erupted with a volley of comments.
"I thought it was some actual qualified member who suddenly spoke and gave me a fright. So it's just this high school student... What gives you the right to act so high and mighty? Can you just shut up?"
"If you're just a coward, we suggest that you should just quit the team!"
"Admit it, you're just afraid of that place. Why not admit what a coward you are instead of spewing a bunch of nonsense? Kids nowadays..."
"Guys, I'm so mad that I'm actually laughing. Captain John has more experience than we could possibly fathom. I wonder where this boy's courage to guide others came about?"
"He probably thinks he's a hero or some sort. Kids these days are typically the same anyway, ignore him, he's a waste of time."
"Wow, Captain John has a really good temper. If it were me, I would have f*cking told him to get lost!"
"What can we do about it behind our screens anyway? Just treat him as a joke. Don't be angry, guys!"
..
There was a burst of laughter and ridicule among the comments.
The impression of Blake in the livestream took a nosedive.
Even Blake's classmates felt that he was really a little too full of himself.
David, too, felt a little regretful for arranging Blake's participation in the team.
'Fortunately, Uncle was currently occupied and didn't manage to watch the livestream. Otherwise, he would have called me and yelled at me,' thought David anxiously.
As for Blake, he clearly wasn't aware of the reactions and impressions the people had of him.
However, when he noticed the cold gazes of the team members, he didn't say anything else.
We weren't familiar with each other anyway, there was nothing I could do if you voluntarily wanted to seek your own death.
He shrugged his shoulders and ignored the insults being thrown at him.
Instead, he stayed put and took out an exquisite black cross from his backpack.
It was another treasure from the Paranormal Treasure Guide, called The Exorcism Cross.
Wearing it, he could protect himself from evil.
After hanging the cross around his neck, Blake focused his eyes and activated his Yin-Yang Eye again to scan the environment.
Finally, he laid his eyes upon an empty lot in the middle of the cemetery.
Under the detection of his Yin-Yang Eye, this place had the least Yin energy.
Moreover, the field of vision was wide enough to cover the entire cemetery.
It was a good place to station himself.
Blake nodded with satisfaction and proceeded to set his own base at that safe area. As for the lives of those people...
'I joined the expedition team for the sake of convenience.
'Otherwise, this place would have been officially sealed off and I would not have been able to get in by myself.
'Now, everyone is here in the cemetery.
'The mission given by the system was just to stay in the cemetery for a night.
'They didn't listen, so I'll let them go.'
Blake glanced at the other expedition members, thinking so, then proceeded to mind his own business.
However...
The members of the expedition team couldn't help but stare at Blake curiously.
"Look, Captain John. This kid seems to be throwing a tantrum. He wants to be stationed alone. He's not coming with us."
A member of the expedition team pointed toward Blake's direction and frowned, prompting everyone else to turn their heads over to look.
They saw Blake sitting alone in the middle of the gloomy, somber cemetery. He was holding a cross in his hand and chanting under his breath.
Everyone, even John Jones himself, couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Blake.
"Hey, Blake! Are you mad at us?
"Or do you actually think that with that cross in your hand, you can ward off evil and defend yourself?"
John said mockingly, with a smirk on his face.
Concurrently, the livestream viewers were also aware of Blake's eccentric behavior...

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.

Code Reader Kagami (LitRPG)
Sometimes things happen in this world that we are not in control of. Sometimes we are to a certain degree, and sometimes we are completely in control. However, this is a tale that constantly questions those boundaries. The story follows Kagami, a young programmer, as he winds up in a world almost alien to him. If it were up to him, he would have never visited this world and would rather stay raising his young daughter. Was it through his own actions that he had wound up here? Was it due to several combinations of factors? Or was it something he completely chose. These are questions that constantly haunt Kagami’s mind as he wanders this world and ponders his actions. Unfortunately, the glaring truth of it all refuses to ever look him in the eyes. Each night as he looks up at the night sky, he wonders if the end of this would turn out like the game he made. A tale of Guts and Glory… or would it turn out like he fears, a tale of blood and tears. Regardless of how it turns out, he will one day unveil the truth enshrouding it all. And perhaps in doing so, unveil the fate of his old world, enshrouded by mystery. ___________________________________________________________________________ While this is a typical Isekai started by the infamous truck-kun, the story is most definitely not what is to be taken at face value. I love making tragic twists into these types of stories. For Code Reader Kagami, you'll begin to see a descent into psychological madness. As your hero changes entirely from the moral man he initially was. If you're not a fan of dark aspect stories, this one is not for you. Thank you~
