Chapter 3043: True Disciple
Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
“The first Overarching Heavenly Supreme Celestial to become a true disciple of the Simplicity Celestial Sect was like you. He had comprehended two profundities from a law when he was under the age of 100. However, his innate talent wasn’t as good as yours. He only became an Overarching Heavenly Supreme Celestial when he was slightly over 100 years old. Even then, when he first became an Overarching Heaven Supreme Celestial, his strength far surpassed peak Overarching Heavenly Supreme Celestials who had yet to comprehend a law!” Sun Liang Peng’s eyes brimmed with sadness as he spoke.
Although that true disciple could not be considered as a peerless or monstrous genius, he was still a genius with a bright future since he managed to comprehend two profundities from a law before even reaching the age of 100. Such a person was rare even in the Southern Heaven Territory, let alone the Profound Nether Mansion.
“What happened to that disciple?” Duan Ling Tian asked. Based on Sun Liang Peng’s expression, it was not difficult to tell that the true disciple met with a mishap and died an untimely death before he could grow into his full potential. Apart from that, the Simplicity Celestial Sect was still a grade-seven sect under the Profound Nether Mansion. If that true disciple were still around, the sect should have risen and become a grade-six sect. Even if the sect would not become a top sect in the Southern Heaven Territory, the sect would have been the same grade as the Profound Nether Mansion.
“He was assassinated when he just turned 500 years old and became a One Basic Celestial Duke. He was killed by a professional assassin who was a Five Elements Celestial King. Although the assassin was killed before he could flee, there was nothing we could do to save that true disciple’s life. Due to his death, the Simplicity Celestial Sect lost its chance to rise and achieve greatness…” Sun Liang Peng smiled bitterly when he finished speaking.
“Did the sect manage to find out who sent the assassin or where the assassin came from?” Duan Ling Tian asked.
“No,” Sun Liang Peng shook his head and said, “We have no conclusive evidence that pointed to where he came from or who sent him. However, from what we could gather from his possessions in his Spatial Ring, it was likely that he did not come from any of the regions under the Profound Nether Mansion. In fact, there are no assassin guilds in the Profound Nether Mansion capable of employing Five Elements Celestial Kings. Generally, assassin guilds in the Profound Nether Mansion don’t thrive due to the suppression from the Profound Nether Mansion. It’s the same in the regions under other grade-six mansions’ rule.” Sun Liang Peng’s eyes glinted coldly as he spoke. “Hence, the elders of the Simplicity Celestial Sect concluded that someone must have hired an assassin outside of the Profound Nether Mansion to kill the genius true disciple of our sect. The assassin guild that could employ a Five Elements Celestial King must be from a superior mansion. Our sect’s only a grade-seven sect. How could we investigate the assassin guild in another superior region? However, one thing’s certain… The person who hired the assassin is definitely from one of the regions under the Profound Nether Mansion!”

Sun Liang Peng continued to say, “That true disciple was widely regarded as a rarely-seen genius in the Profound Nether Mansion. Even in the Southern Heaven Territory, he could still be considered as a genius who appeared every 100 years. Once he had grown into his potential, he would surely affect the power balance of the ruling regions under the Profound Nether Mansion.’
In the end, Sun Liang Peng shook his head and said with a sigh, “In any case, it’s a thing of the past… Let’s not speak about it anymore. I can only say the sect was unlucky. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have lost such a genius…”
“An assassin who was a Five Elements Celestial King…” After hearing Sun Liang Peng’s words, he instinctively asked, “Sect leader, now that I’m a true disciple of the Simplicity Celestial Sect, will I be targeted?”
Sun Liang Peng was slightly taken aback and amused when he heard Duan Ling Tian’s words. Then, he said, “Don’t worry, Duan Ling Tian. You joined the Simplicity Celestial Sect through your participation in entering the lower realm of the Southern Heaven Ancient Realm. No matter how gifted you are, you’re not a threat to those people. Those people would only target disciples raised by the sect from young since these disciples belong to the sect. No offense, but disciples who join the sect halfway like you are unlikely to wholeheartedly help the sect even if they’re grateful for the sect’s care.” He was confident Duan Ling Tian would not suffer the same fate as that true disciple.
“That’s a relief.” Duan Ling Tian nodded slightly and sighed in relief. He still had two uses from his consumable Royal Grade Celestial Weapon that would allow him to deal with a Five Elements Celestial King. However, an assassin would most likely ambush him. If he was caught unaware, he would not have time to use his consumable Royal Grade Celestial Weapon, and he would be dead, as a result.
“Now that you’ve become a true disciple, you have access to all the sect’s King Grade Celestial Methods and Divine Abilities. You’ll find them on the top floor of the library. Just show your true disciple token, and you’re free to take what you need from there…” Sun Liang Peng began to list the privileges of a true disciple to Duan Ling Tian.
After listening to Sun Liang Peng, Duan Ling Tian discovered a true disciple had more benefits compared to the direct disciples of the Sect Leader of the Simplicity Celestial Sect. There were things freely given to true disciples that the sect leader’s direct disciples had to fight for.

‘Vice Sect Leader Zhang had only promised me that I would receive similar treatment as a direct disciple of the sect leader. I owe it all to Sect Leader Sun for becoming a true disciple in the sect,’ Duan Ling Tian thought to himself as he glanced at Sun Liang Peng.
“Duan Ling Tian, I’ve informed my men to deal with your registration. Now, I’ll take you to your residence for the duration of your stay in our sect,” Sun Liang Peng said as he beckoned Duan Ling Tian to follow him. Then, he led Duan Ling Tian northward.
“Sect leader, I have a friend who’s currently staying in the Supporting Fall Nation’s palace. I wonder if you can arrange for someone to bring him here?” Duan Ling Tian asked without beating around the bush.
“Of course,” Sun Liang Peng replied without any hesitation. He smiled as he said, “After you’ve settled down, I’ll ask my second brother to go to the Thousand Nations Territory and bring your friend here. My second brother comprehends the law of wind so he’ll be back in three days even if he has to travel to the ends of the Thousand Nations Territory.”
“He only needs three days to return to the sect after traveling to the ends of the Thousand Nations Territory?” Duan Ling Tian was genuinely shocked.
Even a Five Elements Celestial King or a Six Combinations Celestial King would not have such speed. Based on Duan Ling Tian’s knowledge, Six Combinations Celestial Kings and Seven Stars Celestial Kings were the strongest in a grade-seven sect like the Simplicity Celestial Sect. It was rare for such a sect to have an Eight Trigrams Celestial King.
“Sect leader, you can simply arrange for anyone to pick him up. There’s no need to go to such length…” Duan Ling Tian said.
The person whom Duan Ling Tian wanted to bring to the Simplicity Celestial Sect from the Supporting Fall Nation was none other than Liu Guang Lin since Liu Guang Lin did not follow him to Scaling Cloud Lake. He had sent Liu Guang Lin a message through a Communication Celestial Talisman, asking Liu Guang Lin if he preferred to stay in the Supporting Fall Nation or the Simplicity Celestial Sect.
Liu Guang Lin did not hesitate to reply that he would follow Duan Ling Tian no matter where Duan Ling Tian went.
“My second brother has nothing better to do right now. It’d be a great opportunity for him to go out,” Sun Liang Peng said with a smile.
“Sect leader, may I ask which elder is your second brother?” Duan Ling Tian had heard about the elders of the Simplicity Celestial Sect from Zhang Guang Zheng during the journey back to the sect. However, Zhang Guang Zheng did not mention anything about Sun Liang Peng’s second brother. He wondered inwardly, ‘Who could it be?’
“My second brother is not an elder of our sect.” Sun Liang Peng shook his head with a smile on his face upon hearing Duan Ling Tian’s question. “In fact, he’s not human; he’s a Celestial Beast. Normally, he cultivates on the Solitary Night Summit and rarely leaves that place.” As he spoke, his eyes shifted to the peak of a mountain in the distance.
The mountain was the highest mountain in the Simplicity Celestial Sect’s estate, and it towered into the clouds. Its peak that was like the tip of a green sword was shrouded by the clouds.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
