Chapter 68: Cause of Death
Ring!
Situ He was awakened from his practice by the constantly ringing phone.
He opened his eyes, slightly troubled.
His practice was just about to enter a critical juncture.
After a cup of divine tea last night, with the help of the simulation later on.
The Ghosts and Souls that he was practicing was getting into the track.
In just a few hours, he had already grasped the basics and the Soul Secret technique.
Just as he was about to strive higher, he was interrupted by this annoying ringing sound from the phone.
“Hello!” He picked up the phone. “Didn’t I say that not to disturb me if there’s nothing important?”
“Hmm…” his expression changed drastically. “Tell me the details…”
After listening to the report from the other end of the call, he immediately said, “I’ll be right there!”
After putting down the phone, Situ He quickly walked to another secret room in the base and rang the doorbell.
After a while, Zhang Hui appeared in front of him.
“Sir!”
“The target was assassinated!” he said.
“Who?!” Zhang Hui’s eyes widened.
“It’s him…” Situ He sighed, “the one we’re worried about…”
Zhang Hui stared at him in disbelief.
Was he assassinated?
Who had the guts to assassinate him?
Are they trying to get themselves killed?
They could have just sought for death somewhere else, instead of dragging the whole world with them!
What happened last night struck him again.
He, the Lieutenant-General of the Blackguards of the Federal Empire, the Major General in front of him, and more than half of the research staff of the Army base, almost all the lieutenant colonel and colonel were nearly distorted.
In fact, they only heard few words from him from afar with dozens of measures and arrangements such as lead-lined houses and protective arrays between them.
“Sir…” Situ He hurriedly continued, “Don’t worry, the assassin has already been killed…”
“The corpse has been transported to the underground base of the branch of the Blackguards in Jiangcheng City at the moment…”

“We’ll go there immediately!” said Zhang Hui immediately without thinking much.
……..
Half an hour later, both of them arrived at the branch office of the Blackguards in Jiangcheng city.
Under Xia Ping’s lead, they took the elevator to the underground secret base.
This place had been strictly protected and layers of defense had been established.
“Minister…” Xia Ping handed a report to Zhang Hui. “this is the preliminary investigation of the identification of the assassin…”
“It has been confirmed that the assassin’s identity is Sherlock, one of the Thirteen Earls of the Order of the Temple!”
“Sherlock? The Werewolf Lord of the Order of the Temple…” Zhang Hui frowned. “How did he sneak in?”
The Federal Empire had a blacklist of people who entered the country.
All the members of the Order of the Temple were on it.
Not to mention Sherlock, the Werewolf Lord who was one of the Thirteen Earls of the Order of the Temple!
In theory, he should be expelled the moment he attempted to enter the country!
Unless he was smuggled in.
The problem was that ordinary people could smuggle in, but it was impossible for such a powerful foreign species.
Because the Federal Empire had a system called Skynet.
This system was connected to satellites, ground radar, monitoring stations, surveilliance cameras, and other facilities in the federal’s land.
It would use big data to filter and automatically identify any illegal foreign species that might be hiding in the federal’s land.
Then, it would quickly track them down.
The local department of the Blackguards of the Federal Empire was responsible for such tasks.
“Sir, according to the investigation, something went wrong with the customs…” Xia Ping said, “it has been found that the person-in-charge of the customs in Jiangcheng accepted a bribe and let it in. He even forged a legal identity for it, causing Jiangcheng’s psionic alarm to mistakenly think that it was a legal foreign species registered under the Federal…”
“This moth!” Zhang Hui snorted coldly. “Banish him to Beihai at the border and make him plant corns!”

“Yes, sir!” Xia Ping immediately saluted. “I will assign someone to take the order right away!”
Beihai is incredibly famous within the Federal Empire.
Because in the textbooks, it was the land of Su Wu used to herd his sheep.
And now…
It was the labor camp for criminals who committed serious crimes.
The hardest part of the labor camp was planting corn.
A hundred acres of cornfields would be assigned to per criminal.
No machinery or fertilizer was allowed.
The required amount of corn had to be handed over by the end of the year, or else no food would be provided to them for the next year!
For the past three hundred years, the prisoners of the Federal Empire, whether from local or overseas, felt the cramps in their stomach when they heard the word ‘Beihai’. In addition to the corn farming program, most of them would think of quick ways to commit suicide.
As they spoke, the three of them arrived at the underground forensic laboratory.
A broken corpse was placed on the autopsy table.
A few forensic doctors in white coats surrounded it.
The corpse was humanoid in shape, but all the fragments had thick, hard wolf fur.
Although its head had been shattered into pieces, one could still see the characteristics of a wolf from it.
It had a mouth full of sharp teeth, wide-opened eyes, and a protruding nose.
What was even more shocking was its blood vessels.
Every single one of them was extremely thick.
However, right now, every single one of these blood vessels seemed to have been torn apart by some powerful force.
“Could you explain…” Zhang Hui asked a forensic doctor, “what was the cause of death?”
The Forensic Doctor looked at the medal hanging on Zhang Hui’s chest and knew that he was an officer with a high position. He quickly saluted and replied, “Your Excellency, based on our autopsy, we have confirmed that the dead man was a powerful being equivalent to a major general of the Blackguards!”
Zhang Hui nodded.
“The first thing it suffered was a serious injury to its head!”
“Some foreign beast used its claws to leave claw marks on its head and skull. It pierced into its skin and injected a type of poison into its body…”
“This poison dissolved its flesh and blood…”
“It’s similar to snake’s venom…”
“But this was not the fatal injury!”
“Because the dead man has an extraordinary regenerative!” The forensic doctor took out a film and said, “Look, this is the mark left by the regeneration of the flesh and blood in the dead man’s skull…”
“So, logically speaking, that beast has only severely injured it!”
“With the regenerative ability of a major general-level werewolf, it will recover fully in three to five months…”
“The fatal wound is here!” The forensic doctor walked to the autopsy table and clipped away a piece of blurry flesh, revealing a pile of shattered bones.
“This is the skull of the dead man!”
“It was hit by some kind of force from the front!”
“This force then radiated from the skull of the dead man to every cell and inner layer of the tissue… it destroyed all their vitality completely…”
“Most importantly…” he picked up a small bone fragment with tweezers. “You see… There are still powerful psionic power disturbances here.”
“It has been determined… that the frequency of these psionic power disturbances is related to some kind of curse…”
“In other words, all the descendants and ancestors of this foreign species may have been cursed too!”
The forensic doctor took a deep breath as he said, “such a powerful foreign species was killed by a heavy blow to the origin and cells!”
“Not only that, its descendants and ancestors might have been cursed by it!”
“We couldn’t figure out what kind of curse this is…”
“But we can be sure that their death would be horrible!”
Zhang Hui and the others looked at each other when they heard this.
Then, they sighed deeply. They were glad that they acted rational and smart.
Otherwise…

STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic
Four thousand years before Anakin Skywalker was born, the Jedi thrived as the guardians of peace in the galaxy. The Republic, weakened by a costly war with the Mandalorians, faces now another great threat. A false Sith Empire created by two fallen Jedi, Revan and Malak, has risen from the ashes of that war. Now the Republic is on the brink of defeat to their once great hero, now turned Darth Revan. Hoping to protect the Republic at all costs, the Jedi dispatch an elite strike force to capture the Dark Lord. To the dismay of the Jedi, Revan is betrayed and killed by his apprentice Darth Malak, who proclaims himself the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Now with the entire galaxy at stake, the Jedi and the Republic must go to extreme lengths if they are to survive the seemingly endless forces the new Sith ruler commands. Only by the will of the Force, will they survive... This is a novelization of the popular video game by Bioware. One of my favorite stories within the Star Wars universe, I am putting my own little twists and style on this story in a way I could see potentially fitting into the new canon by Disney. I will be releasing new chapters periodically with the goal of trimming the story down a little bit as well. Enjoy, and of course constructive criticism always welcome, and if you like what you're reading, consider voting for my story.
