On top of that, he created another wall of Mental Energy in above him to lessen the impact of the incoming fist.

David was smashed on the ground very powerfully after being hit by the attack. The ground beneath him created a small crater due to the impact. And right after being smashed for a moment, his body immediately bounced back in the air.
