Soul For A Girlfriend? Chapter 73

"The contract forbids you? Isn't this contract for me?" I pointed out what she said to check what her reply would be. I know she'll lie about it anyways, but sometimes, following a trail of lies can show you the path towards the truth.
"No, what I meant was that if I tell you about it, you'll again feel a surging pain in your arm. You may die from that too. It's too risky." She said normally, in her usual tone.
"It seems like you made that up right now." I chuckled to make it seem like I was joking.
"Of course not. Why would I lie to you?" She again looked at me with a silly smile on her face.
"Why would you not?"
"You ask too many questions. Shut up!" I successfully annoyed her and also got some piece of information from her, no matter how small or clueless it is.
"I don't know what you're trying to do, Devil-chan." I narrowed my eyes at her to compliment the intensity of my statement.
"What do you mean?" She said in a serious tone too and stared at me. The staring continued for some time with nothing except awkward silence between us. I finally broke the tension between us.
"Nevermind, this conversation is a waste of time." I shrugged.
"What? What? Tell me." It seems like she was determined to continue the conversation but unfortunately I was not in the mood to talk about something and run around it in circles without coming to a solid conclusion.
"Shut up." I said in a plain tone.
"Rude?" She rolled her eyes and continued eating ice cream.
"Ah I wanted to ask something." I tapped her on the shoulder lightly and she again turned around towards me.
"Again?" she said in an irritated tone.
"Yeah" I nodded and waited for her approval to continue.

"What is it?" She said, after thinking about it for a moment.
"Like these targets I get… will they always be from my school?" I asked her because this question has also been on my mind recently.
"As far as I know, you can say that they all will be from your school only." She nodded, and from her tone, it felt like she was sure about it.
"Ah, seems like a good thing." I said, as it was a relief that I won't just have to pick random girls up. That would've been quite the problem for me.
"Why did you ask?" she asked as I was satisfied with her answer so I was sitting quietly.
"Nothing, I just have to prepare for my future girlfriends." I chuckled.
"The word girlfriend coming out of your mouth is really hilarious." I like how she never lets go of any moment when she can roast me. I looked at her giggling in front of me. That wasn't even a good roast.
"Anyway… what was this key thing you're talking about?" Looking at my expression, she asked this.
"Huh?" I was a bit confused at her sudden question, which made no sense.
"You know, regarding the target." She caught on to my confused look as she specified what her question was about.
"Ah… that, it's just that it turns out Yasurouka was jealous of some people and the thing they share between each other." I told her honestly.
"Took you long enough." She smirked.
"Oi, I already had my suspicions on this. Just the lack of evidence to prove my hypothesis." I didn't like the way she mocked me like that. It's not like I didn't already know about that.
"Well I expected this from the Envy." She said in a serious tone.
"Envy?"
"Ahh… it's like jealousy, you know?" She said with an awkward smile. Well that was awkward for me too, how she assumed that I wouldn't know the meaning of a simple word like that.

"I know the meaning of the word." I said. The way she used the word 'envy' made it sound like it was someone's or something's name. I've probably been watching too much anime recently.
"Of course you'll say that right now to make yourself feel smarter." She gave me a side glance with a sarcastic smile on her face.
"No." I straight up denied her.
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"Fuck off."
"So… how much time will you take to make her yours?" She asked me to break the endless loop of our conversation.
"That's a difficult question." It was difficult to answer that because right now, my situation with Yasurouka was a bit complicated. Also with my exams coming up, I don't think I can complete it before this month.
"No… like a rough estimation." She shook her head from left to right as a gesture to oppose the way I perceived her question.
"See Devil-chan, my exams are going to start so I'll have to focus on my studies a bit now." I told her honestly. No matter how less I study, I still open the books the night before the exam.
"Ah, Exams… hate those." Hearing the word exam, she made a disgusted face. People often hate exams without realising that exams are a really important factor to grow in one's educational life. Exams are also good to benchmark one's abilities in a certain field.
"I can tell." I sighed.
"What did you say!?" She probably understood why I sighed as I said that.
"Nothing… so yeah… probably by the start of the new month, I guess this target will be completed." I gave her a straight answer.
"So still a month right?"
"Yup" I nodded.
"No worries" She gave me an assuring smile.
"Come on… don't be sad now… here have this ice cream."
"But it's…" Before I could finish my sentence, I shoved the spoonful of ice in my mouth.
"It melted you crazy bitch. Who eats ice cream like that!?" I said as the ice cream in room temperature was resting on my tongue and I could feel that I waa doing something illegal. Eating ice cream at room temperature is illegal.
She looked at me genuinely like she didn't do anything wrong and said, "Me."
Remembering how she was biting the ice cream first and then seeing her drink ice cream like a milkshake that too using a spoon, I was done with my daily quota of Lilith.
"Get out." I said calmly as I again laid down on my bed. I noticed her staring at me. Suddenly, her left hand slowly approached my face. As a reflex, I tried to move my head away.
"Calm down, I'm going to gouge your eyeballs out." She chuckled.
As her hand reached closer to my face, her index finger extended towards my lips. I felt her finger touch the edge of my lower lips. I was staring at her without saying a single word because I didn't know what to say.
As she retracted her hand back, I noticed that she wiped some ice cream off my lips with her finger. She looked at me with a sly smile as she raised the finger up to her lips and licked the ice cream off it.
Looking at her do this, I felt my cheeks getting hot. Why did she do that for!? I quickly turned away from her and faced towards the wall. I could hear her chuckling from behind me.

MC is a bit suicidal! Things not to expect: - Romance. I've no intention of adding romance in the foreseeable future. - Good grammar (Fair warning: I'm not native and might have some issues with the language. I hope you guys will be helpful and kind to point out the wrongs.) Greetings! 'The Direwolf Sorcerer' is my first work, so be supportive and kind by pointing out my flaws. Thanks! ( This went by the name 'I died & reincarnated as wolf in fantasy world' almost a year ago in RR. Due to personal reasons, I dropped it only after 4 chapters. Now I'm writing it again, just with a new title.) *UPDATES EVERY SATURDAY I've plans for the cover art, but that's for later.
