Soul For A Girlfriend? Chapter 27

Last night, I talked a bit too comfortably with Lilith. I regret doing that. I told her everything about how I made Tomose fall for me. I shouldn't have said that.
I let my emotions get the better of me after so many years.
I also got to know about a new feature regarding this contract which will be quite useful to me in the future. I entered the classroom, and the usual noise of chatter hit me.
I walked towards my desk, and on the way I had to pass Tomose's desk. I walked past her while slightly glancing at her entire group to check their reactions. And indeed, it seems like Lilith was right.
Neither Tomose nor Kana smiled at me. Kana looked at me, though, but it was like she wasn't close to me like she was yesterday. It was like she knew me, but only as an acquaintance.
It was almost like how it used to be before. We were in the same class and knew about each others' existence though never bothered talking to each other.
It was weird seeing them react like that since normally people are not supposed to be like this. Then again, normal is a word which I shouldn't say. My life has strayed far from normal in the course of the past month.
I made one of them fall in love with me the day before. On top of that I was one who confessed to Tomose. Despite being a loner who liked little social interaction, I made friends with some popular girls and even managed to date one of them.
Quite an unbelievable feat.
But it was of no use now since neither Tomose knew that she was my girlfriend nor any of my friends knew that I got a girlfriend. Only I knew the truth.

I sat down in my chair, and Yukimura greeted me.
"Good Morning, Sakamaki-kun… wait, where's your spectacles?"
"Good Morning, and I didn't bring them since I don't actually need them." I answered.
"I see." He nodded.
"How many fingers am I holding?" He stretched his arm farther and asked me.
"Two… don't change it mid way I can see you." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"So you're not actually as blind as I thought." He gave me an awkward smile.
Since I was already talking with him, I decided to check on something. It would be best to check that thing on him rather than any other person.
"Hey, do you remember where you were yesterday evening?" I know it was a weird question to ask out of the blue.
"Of course, I was with… wait… What the fuck?"
"What happened? You alright?"
"No, it's just that I suddenly blanked out."
Blanked out on trying to remember the event from last evening. Me, him, Tomose and Kana went to hangout at a restaurant downtown. But he doesn't have memories of them.
"Well, I remember eating wonderful food, now I don't remember if I was alone or not."
"Good food? Without me?" I said.
"See, if someday, I get a girlfriend, and I was to make out with her…" He stopped and looked at me as I was staring at him with my narrowed eyes.
"What?"
"Nothing, you continue." I gestured to him with my arm.
"So… yeah, if I was to make out with her, would you still say, 'without me'?" He stared at me.
"Of course…" I took a slight pause. "Yes." I added.
"You weren't supposed to say that." He was dumb founded my by answer.

"Let that day come first." I chuckled.
"It will come… anyway, have you got any girlfriend yet?"
"Why do you ask?" That was a weird thing to ask. Not weird because of the context, but he knows that I'm not interested in these kinds of things and he still asked me that.
"No, I guess you said something about trying to love, a month ago."
"I don't remember saying something like that."
"What?" He was confused.
"Come on, you know me." I actively probed him.
"Well…" He took a slight pause to ponder upon this matter. "True." He laughed.
He remembered that? But don't remember that he gulped down pizza last evening? I guess I understand what Lilith said now.
She said that the day on which the target, which she referred as a 'vessel, gets their negative energy completely drawn off. After midnight, anyone affected by the events will get their memories returned to a null state.
In simpler terms, anyone whose actions affect the target, or anyone who is affected by the target's action will get their memory overwritten by something else.
Overwriting memories also meant that there might be a slight possibility of different people having distinct memories of me. My understanding of this feature of the contract wasn't up to the mark yet.
That's why Yukimura remembers eating food but doesn't remember with whom. That's because he indirectly tried to set me and Tomose up, who was my first target.
I'm sure Kana doesn't have any memories of that event either.
And as for the target themselves, they forget ever falling in love with me. But they will remember that I talked to them, just not how deeply they were attached to me. This is a really great hack. The only good thing about this contract.
But what about my chats with Tomose? Did they vanish too? What if I had pictures of myself with her, what would happen to them?
Does this contract really alter reality and create a new reality for me?
"Hey?" Yukimura snapped his finger in front of my eyes to break my chain of thoughts. I looked at him.
"What are you thinking?"
"Nothing particular to be honest." I gave him a vague answer.
He nodded and turned around, as someone else was calling him. He was a friendly guy, so everyone talked to him now and then. Compared to him, I would say I wasn't popular, but I was acquainted with some people.
Also, the thing I genuinely liked about Yukimura is that he knew how to respect someone's privacy. He was a guy you could trust your secrets with and he won't ever spill the beans.
The thought of telling Yukimura about my ordeal regarding this contract came across my mind for a split second, but I threw that off my mind. It was a trash idea to get him involved. And I don't want him to get in trouble because of him.
I don't even know what the consequences would be if I did tell some about this contract. But I'm sure it won't be something nice.
