I Am A Prodigy Chapter 242

Although rolling dice was the simplest method, it still had its challenges. Furthermore, it was also dependent on what sort of dice were being rolled.
Heavenly King Dice was something that many expert gamblers could not roll as it required them to control all 24 dice at the same time. It was too difficult, hence many would not put in the time to learn it.
Lu Tianxiong and Lu Hao's faces turned ugly. An ominous feeling grew in their hearts as they stared at Ye Lingchen with worry.
That round seemed to be quite a challenge!
"How do you play?" Ye Lingchen asked.
"We each have 24 dice. The biggest roll wins!" Miyako showed a gentle smile on her confident face. "Take your pick."
Ye Lingchen nodded, then randomly took one of the dice cups, 24 dice1, and placed it in front of himself. Following that, he observed Miyako quietly.
As Miyako saw Ye Lingchen's stiff movements, it brought a contemptuous smile to her face. Following that, she took the remaining cup and slammed her hand on the table. The 24 dice flew into the air and landed precisely into the cup in her hand!
Clack clack clack!
The sounds of dice rolling could be heard as she shook the cup casually.
Her movements were expertly done with grace, bringing out astonishment and wonderment from the crowd. With that, she solidified the image of an expert dice player.
In the hall, only Ye Lingchen remained calm.
Without paying any attention to those around her, Miyako engrossed herself in rolling her dice. Although her hands were a fair bit smaller than the cup, her grip was strong and her fingers moved with dextrous grace as she shook the cup.
Clack clack clack!
The dice collided with each other within the cup, creating loud sounds.
Rolling the dice was already extremely taxing for one's arms, but the Heavenly King Dice was even worse. Even if a man were to shake it at low intensity, his arms would be sore.

However, Miyako acted as if nothing happened. Not only did she shake it at high speed, but her hands could also pull off all sorts of fancy tricks, occasionally spinning it in her palm and even throwing the cup into the air. It was eye-catching, as though they were in the movie, God of Gamblers.
Meanwhile, the 24 dice behaved as though they were stuck to the cup—seemingly defying gravity. That speed was just too amazing!
The surrounding crowd was stupefied. That was way more interesting than the movie. Even special effects could not recreate the scene in front of them.
Ye Lingchen remained calm and stoic. He merely sat quietly opposite Miyako, observing her.
When compared, Miyako's polished movements and masterful skill formed a stark contrast between her and Ye Lingchen. The presence they emanated was incomparable.
Some of them even assumed that Ye Lingchen was dumbfounded by the performance and gave up resisting.
"Twerp, you're just staring at me all these while. Why aren't you making your move?" Miyako could not help but ask as a cold gleam flashed through her eyes. "Just surrender quickly if you've given up!"
"It's fine. You just continue your performance. I'm very fast at rolling," Ye Lingchen grinned as he nonchalantly replied.
"So he has given up!"
"Sigh, at this point, the surface area of this kid's must be very wide1. Showing off may be fun, but the price is his freedom."
"This kid managed to maintain his composure even under such circumstances. That's amazing."
Everyone gave Ye Lingchen sympathetic gazes, feeling sorry for him.
Miyako reverted her attention from Ye Lingchen. Her expressions showed her seriousness in this. No matter the situation, she would not let herself be careless. She must make sure every attempt was perfect!
In gambling, she had her own basic principles.
Putting skills aside, just her attitude alone was on a much higher level than Ye Lingchen. No matter what she did, she would treat it seriously, even in gambling.

Clack clack clack!
Only the sounds of Miyako's dice echoed in the hall. Everyone stayed silent, quietly awaiting the results.
Bang!
Miyako's eyes brightened, finally slamming the cup on the table!
It was right then, that Ye Lingchen finally made his move to pick up the dice in front of him. He then rolled them in an amateurish fashion.
Those that witnessed his movement all shook their heads tacitly.
It was terrible!
Unbelievably horrible!
Ye Lingchen's cup never left the table. He had merely shaken it around with the cup stuck to the table. He looked even more inexperienced than a newbie. All in all, he had shaken it about twenty times and came to a stop.
'That...that's it?'
Everyone was flabbergasted.
Even if he gave up, that was just too obvious.
"That's an insult to the dice!" Miyako sneered. "You reveal yours first!"
"No, you first!" Ye Lingchen replied.
There was a rule to rolling dice that stated if both sides were tied at the same points, the first to reveal is considered the winner.
Hence, under such special circumstances, the one who reveals first had the upper hand.
The crowd's mind was numb. To them, the result is set. What was the difference between revealing first or last?
Miyako did not waste any words. She lifted her hand, opening her cup.
24 dice were neatly stacked together, all with six-point sides facing up!
No!
It was actually 25 dice!
One of the dice was split in two, with the six-point side facing up and the one point side similarly faced up.
That was to say, 24 sixes and a one!
That was just terrifying. Not only did she manage to have flawless control over 24 dice, but she had also managed to break one of them. Such skills were just brutal!
That...that!
After a brief silence, the crowd went livid.
"That's amazing. Such heaven-defying skills. No wonder she's the disciple of the Gambling King!"
"F*ck! This is even more exciting than the movies. Even the movies can't possibly film it this way!"
"That's it. I'm offering my praise. This is a god, a true god of gambling!"
At that moment, they were all fully impressed.
Those that previously lost to Miyako all let out a long sigh, relieved that their defeat was justified!
As for that kid, he was sure to lose.
"It's your loss! From now on, you're my slave!" Miyako calmly told Ye Lingchen, as though passing a sentence.
"I have yet to reveal my dice. How are you so sure?"
"What's the difference if you reveal them or not? It's just a pointless struggle before your doom," Miyako scoffed.
"Is that so?" Ye Lingchen teased with a smile. He stretched his hand and placed it on the cup.
The crowd could not help but hold their breath. Although they knew that Ye Lingchen was about to lose, that did not stop them from feeling curious about the dice roll.
The scene was deathly quiet. Everything seemed to have stopped as Ye Lingchen slowly lifted the cup.
The moment the cup was completely lifted, everyone was stunned.
That included Miyako!
Meanwhile, Wei Hong and Meng Jiu's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. It looked as though they had seen something unbelievable.
"How is that possible?!" Miyako's lithe body trembled and slumped onto her chair, staring stupidly at the dice.
Ye Lingchen's dice had multiplied to 48!
Each dice was split into two halves, with one half showing six points while the other half showing one point!
—
In raw it was stated as 20 dice, but we suspect it may be simply missing a four.As per one of the previous chapters, the author is trying to make a reference to how much pressure the ordeal could be causing and "flatten out" Ye Lingchen's heart/psyche.

Dungeon Scholar
Girl meets dungeon. What could go right? A story of a good-hearted Scholar driven by her compassion and curiosity. She might be a little combat averse, but um, isn't that only logical? Love me a good grimdark, but sometimes I want to read feel-good fiction that isn't pure action, romance, or comedy. The plot and characters of Dungeon Scholar won't be all happy and fluffy, and the world will be more dungeons and monsters than rainbows and puppies, but overall the sweet moments should overshadow the bitter. Let's say three dollops of sugar for every pinch of salt, with lemon slices left on the saucers? Enjoy. Note: This is NOT a typical dungeon story. If you are here for the dungeon aspect, then fair warning this will seem incredibly slow-burn to you. The dungeon will eventually become the most important 'character,' arguably, or the second-most important narratively, but you might jump out the window in frustration long before that happens. At its heart, the story's core remains 'girl meets dungeon,' not 'dungeon meets world.' (To be clear, this does or will have a plot! It's just the more conventional story-like elements contribute to Rowena Loress's greater story, not the other way around; no conflict takes center stage until it becomes personally significant to her. Meanwhile, have some Slice of Life.) Updates every Friday Cover made using Waifulabs Written using 4thewords (referral code: UZJRY55368)

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
