I Am A Prodigy Chapter 137

Too strong, too terrifying!
Everyone just watched in a daze, dumbstruck by what they saw.
Even students from Capital University had not expected things to unfold like that.
No, it was more accurate to say NOBODY, even in their wildest dreams, would imagine such a situation happening before them.
The scene was too much for the eyes to take in!
"Ahhhhh!"
Zhao Ritian screamed with all his might with a pained expression on his face. He stared at the ball Ye Lingchen shot, pouring all of his might into his jump.
He must block it, he must be able to block it!
His scream continued as he approached the ball ever so slowly.
However, the basketball cruelly slipped past his fingertips, followed by a "thunk", it scored again!
Thud!
Zhao Ritian collapsed to the floor. His soulless eyes stared straight ahead. He was drenched in sweat, as though he was suffering from overexertion.
That was not purely a crushing defeat in terms of skill. On a deeper level, it crushed his soul.
He had been defeated. Utterly crushed! It was like a child facing off against an adult. He had not even the slightest hope of retaliation!
Bang, bang, bang!
Finally, Ye Lingchen did his first dribble. The basketball hitting against the ground, at the same time hitting at the audiences' hearts.
His methods were simple. Without all the fancy moves, yet extremely firm, giving others the illusion that everything was within his grasp.
"Slam dunk. Is that so amazing?"
Although he said that in a soft calm tone, it had brought the audiences' heart to a stop!
Could it be…
The next instant, Ye Lingchen dribbled and charged!
Huaqing University's students tried to block him off but were easily thrown off by Ye Lingchen. After that, he leaped in the air!
In everyone's eyes, Ye Lingchen had taken flight, as though wings grew out of his back.

Very quickly, his height exceeded the basketball hoop!
If what Zhao Ritian pulled off was a slam dunk, then what Ye Lingchen did should be considered a violent dunk!
Bang!
A loud sound echoed throughout the stadium. Ye Lingchen's hands were grabbing onto the hoop, swinging a few times in the air before gracefully landing on the ground!
"That fella, his jumps are like flying. He must be cheating!"
"A-a-a-awesome. Since when did our Capital University have someone this good?!"
"Ye'zi was…this good?" Little Gen and co. were similarly dazed. They took a deep breath, then followed with a smile.
"Continue serving!"
Ten minutes had passed. By then, the score was 205: 158.
From that point on, nobody was able to stop Ye Lingchen's advance. Although the 47 point difference was huge, when put in Ye Lingchen's hands, it was nothing.
He casually shot some three-pointers, bringing the score to 205: 206, overtaking Huaqing University by one point.
By then, the match was only three minutes from ending. Ye Lingchen did not continue to make any shots. Nobody was moving on the field, nor did anyone make a sound.
The huge stadium went into a deafening silence.
Eventually, with a whistle from the referee, the match had ended. Capital University, leading by one point, turned out to be the victor!
Following that, the entire stadium erupted once more!
"We won! Capital University won! It's just like a dream!"
"Ye Lingchen is too amazing. He's a really scary guy!"
"Zhao Ritian, why did you stop jumping? Continue to f*ck the heavens!"
"Terrible. Capital University must have purchased in-game cash. Cash players, definitely hackers!"
…
"Damn! Our…our university won?!" Principal Shen's aged face showed a hint of confusion. From an inevitable loss that made such a comeback, that was just too much of a surprise!
After that, his face was flushed with excitement. Glancing sideways at the still dazed Principal Xu, he laughed, "Simple and brutal. As expected from the students of our Capital University. Good job! Old Xu, I heard you were talking about that what-cha-call-it place again? Oh right! Royal Seafood Restaurant! Let's not dilly dally. We'll go there today! Remember to bring enough money!"

'Awesome, that felt awesome!'
After so many years of rivalry with Old Xu, Principal Shen had never felt so good. From the moment the basketball match started, he was holding in his temper all the while. He did not expect a final comeback like that. It was just like a miracle.
Principal Xu's face was flushed red. His lips twitched, seemingly in deep pain.
However, he rubbed his beard, then put on a deep and wise expression. "Old Shen, if I were you, I won't be that excited."
"Oh? Why?" Principal Shen asked.
"Have you ever wondered why Ye Lingchen was not on the field despite being so good?"
Principal Xu's words stunned Principal Shen and it was followed by silence.
Ye Lingchen's basketball skills could be described as monstrous, absurdly good. Furthermore, the university had a lot of people that knew of his exploits. Why then was he not arranged to be on the team?
That proved one thing. Someone in the university was intentionally preventing him from being on the team!
"Old Shen, we're the best universities in the country. What's the thing we fear most? It's to bury talents! This incident is fishy! We'll leave the meal thing aside. You should go and investigate this immediately," advised Principal Xu.
Principal Shen's face sank, followed by looking at Principal Xu with a funny face, "You sneaky Old Xu, trying to trick me! I'll naturally investigate this incident myself. However, this meal is definitely on you!"
As for President Zhang, he was frozen solid like a statue.
The two principals quickly noticed President Zhang's abnormality, quickly looked over out of concern. "President Zhang, how are you? Are you okay?"
President Zhang did not respond to them, but his eyes turned redder by the second. His lips were trembling, and suddenly broke into tears!
The next instant, his tears flowed like a broken dam, bawling publicly on the spot. It immediately attracted the stares of countless people around them.
Principal Xu and Principal Shen's face turned pale, completely at a loss of how to handle the situation!
'What the heck is this? So embarrassing!'
"Old Zhang, how old are you now, why the sudden outburst? Stop crying!" Principal Shen urged, "The students are watching!"
"Principal Shen, I'm happy, too happy!" President Zhang rubbed his tears away, mumbling excitedly, "Wonderful, that student from your university is just too wonderful! Do you know what I see in him? The hope of Chinese basketball!"
"Sob sob sob, I can't hold it back, just let me cry a bit more!" President Zhang was lost in a world of his own and started crying again.
"Old Zhang, I beg of you, please stop crying. That hope of basketball of yours is already gone!" Principal Xu laughed bitterly.
"Gone?!" As expected, President Zhang immediately stopped his bawling and started looking for his star. He asked in a hurry, "Where is he? Where is he?!"
"He went home long ago!"
"Went home?" President Zhang wiped his tears, stared at Principal Shen, then asked sincerely, "Principal Shen, you must help me. That student will surely be the future hope of basketball! You must help me convince him to join our training camp!"
"As long as you can convince him, let's not mention one meal at the Royal Seafood Restaurant, I'll even buy you 10 meals! Please!"

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
