Heaven’s Devourer Chapter 1725

Buddha Above All?
Of course, Wu Yu had never heard of this person before, and asked further.
Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha began to explain: "Buddha Above All is the strongest in the whole of Heavenly Buddha's Domain. He has the most divine sarira! He is the strongest immortal buddha in history, with nine buddha worlds. His name is Xuanzang!"
Hearing Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha's explanation, Wu Yu still did not know who the Buddha Above All was. He had never heard of the name from the Great Sage's legacy before, but he carefully noted the name Xuanzang.
Wu Yu continued asking: "What are divine sarira? Leave nothing out."
Wu Yu's guard was constantly up against the violent-looking black immortal buddha trueform. The moment Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha tried to attack them, Wu Yu would be able to subdue him.
Seeing Wu Yu so vigilant made Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha not dare to act lightly.
He could only continue answering: "Divine sarira are the most magical objects in the world! Each pearl of divine sarira is filled with spiritual qi, a wondrous energy. It is the only thing that can help immortal buddhas grow stronger......"
Wu Yu understood now.
Divine sarira were important treasures for all the immortal buddhas. It not only made them stronger, but also concerned their lives.
According to Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha's description, Heavenly Buddha's Domain was currently like a dark, sinister forest. Only by reaching the immortal buddha realm could one earn the right to stalk the darkness, killing and living.
Besides immortal buddhas, the immortal-level ordinary bodhis all had to rely on their buddha to survive. They were completely dependent that way.
Even if two immortal buddhas had never met before, they might clash in an epic battle, leaving their fate up to their ability.
If an immortal buddha went for a long time without divine sarira, their spiritual energies would all dry up, growing weaker and weaker. They might die at the hands of other immortal buddhas.
And immortal buddhas with more divine sarira would grow stronger and stronger. The Buddha Above All had the most divine sarira, and therefore was the strongest.
Only he had a golden immortal buddha trueform. In Heavenly Buddha's Domain, all the other immortal buddhas were black.
Wu Yu's head was buzzing with questions. Although he did not know who this Buddha Above All Xuanzang was, but was he part of the reason why Heavenly Buddha's Domain was currently in a mess? The chaos in Heavenly Domain, and the loss of immortal emperor memories - would this Xuanzang have something to do with it?

"If there's a chance, I must find this Buddha Above All and observe the situation!"
Wu Yu thought to himself, trying to repress his fears.
After all, the opponent was the strongest immortal buddha in all of Heavenly Buddha's Domain. He was definitely on the Jade Emperor's level, or perhaps even that of the Patriarch Bodhi and Taiyi Zhenren.
If the Buddha Above All was evil and violent like the other immortal buddhas, then Wu Yu stood no chance of escaping even if he was 10 times stronger than he currently was.
According to Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha's description, divine sarira were black balls that came into existence in Heavenly Buddha's Domain's space. No one knew where they came from.
Once a divine sarira appeared, many immortal buddhas would rush over to fight for it.
This also meant that many of their mortals would die!
Wu Yu asked about that, and Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha answered indifferently. To them, the mortals and bodhis in their buddha world were no different from ants. They were there to be harvested. Immortal buddhas did not care whether they lived or died.
Wu Yu was at a loss for words.
Back when he had cultivated the Invincible Vajra Body, he had not fully understood the golden buddha scriptures, but sensed their intentions within. Back then, there had been a kind will that aimed to deliver all creatures from suffering.
All along, Wu Yu's impression of buddhas had been that of generosity and warmth, and now he was faced with these immortal buddhas from Heavenly Buddha's Domain. Violent, savage, cruel, and treating life within them as ants to be killed.
All life within their buddha worlds were just tools for them to grow stronger.
Against a strong foe, they would not hesitate to kill off all life in order to strengthen their buddha worlds and defeat other immortal buddhas. Each fight for divine sarira would see countless mortals die.
Wu Yu was struggling to imagine it. Within each immortal buddha's world was billions of lifeforms. What about 10 immortal buddhas?
100 immortal buddhas?
Within the gloomy Heavenly Buddha's Domain, there were so many mortals dying every single day......
It was because the Heavenly Buddha's Domain had gone so crazy that some of the ordinary bodhis would leave their immortal buddha's buddha world when they were near immortal buddha realm themselves, searching for chances.

If they happened across divine sarira, they could cultivate to become immortal buddha, and there would be a new fighter joining the free-for-all.
Coincidentally, the immortal buddhas who died in battle roughly equated to the new influx of immortal buddhas, keeping the overall number of immortal buddhas stable within the hundreds of thousands.
This was different from the Heavenly Domain. It was a cutthroat environment, and immortal buddhas would have to kill and win divine sarira if they wanted to grow stronger.
If they lost, it was injury or death. If they won, they could get divine sarira, their ability improving by leaps and bounds, and their odds of survival in Heavenly Buddha's Domain rising dramatically.
In Heavenly Domain, there was immortal essence qi everywhere, which immortal emperors depended on for cultivation.
It was not like Heavenly Buddha's Domain, where it was all condensed into divine sarira. Such a form necessitated plunder of divine sarira in order for cultivation.
Thanks to Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha's information, Wu Yu now understood more about the Heavenly Buddha's Domain.
"And how many divine sarira does the Buddha Above All have?"
Wu Yu asked on a whim.
"Don't know."
Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha shook his head. "I have never seen the Buddha Above All before. All that I know of him is hearsay. However, news of him has been scarce lately."
Wu Yu nodded. He understood now that there were no allies in the Heavenly Buddha's Domain. They killed on sight.
With no friends or alliances established, news would not be that forthcoming either.
If he did not meet the Buddha Above All himself, it would be very difficult to get information secondhand.
Therefore, Wu Yu soon gave up pursuing information on the Buddha Above All from Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha.
Wu Yu also roughly understood the situation at Heavenly Buddha's Domain now.
"No wonder the Golden Bodied Immortal Buddha was so violent. The whole of the Heavenly Buddha's Domain is like that. The law of the jungle holds sway, and it's impossible for immortal buddhas to be friends......"
Wu Yu thought.
Situations such as this, where he was controlling Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha but not killing him, were very rare indeed.
Other immortal buddhas would definitely use the chance to kill Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha while he was injured.
This was why Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha was not very afraid of Wu Yu and the others.
"You lot are immortal emperors from Heavenly Domain. You don't need divine sarira, so there's no point in killing me. Let me go!" Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha declared hotly.
His eyes locked on to Wu Yu with fierce warning, as if he would attack Wu Yu if he wasn't set free immediately.
Wu Yu was naturally unafraid of him. This Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha was badly injured, and had also used up all life on him. If they fought now, Wu Yu had a hundred different ways to deal with him.
However, Wu Yu saw no need to kill an immortal buddha.
After all, his main goal here was to investigate what had happened to Heavenly Buddha's Domain. Killing immortal buddhas would not help that goal.
"The mortals in their buddha worlds are so pitiful. So much worse off than the mortals in our 90,000 lesser realms." Ye Xixi burst out. She looked forlorn at the thought of all that life being killed by the immortal buddhas, all for the sake of their energy requirement.
"What do you know, little wench?"
Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha said uncaringly. "Merely give us tens of thousands of years, and the buddha world will give life anew. As long as the buddha world lives, mortals will be born again! Or is an immortal buddha supposed to watch his own buddha world be destroyed? Being able to become an immortal buddha's strength is a great honor for these mortals!"
Wu Yu saw that this guy could not possibly be convinced, and decided to save his breath.
It seemed like all the immortal buddhas of Heavenly Buddha's Domain were of the same opinion, and Wu Yu's group was the anomaly here.
Just as they were lamenting the fate of the mortals here, a huge quake shook the space they were in. A black wave of light and sound boomed out, filling the skies!
Nanwu Treasured Moon Buddha was immediately frantic. His black immortal buddha trueform struggled desperately. "A divine sarira has appeared nearby! If you don't let me go immediately, I won't be able to get it!"

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
